“I suspect that one of the factors in Fact To File not going there is the progress Inothewayurthinkin is making. He might well go off fav.”
I recognise your point but if he does go off favourite it will be ludicrous based on this season’s form. And it won’t say much for the others.
I am on him because if Cromwell and McManus are pulling a stunt, I want to profit from it at least! But I wonder if The Jukebox Man is still being underrated? He hasn’t had many starts over fences due to his novice season being curtailed and I reckon there is still plenty of scope for improvement.
I am not worried about his run in the Albert Bartlett. I don’t believe he failed through lack of stamina. Inexperience and being in front too long look like the more likely causes. And he has a far better jockey on his back now.
I will be backing him on the day.

Where’s Lecky? and the other stable guaranteed stayers?

March 8, 2026 at 12:20 #1757609Ruby Walsh put up I Am Maximus as an each way bet for the Gold Cup on the “Road To Cheltenham” a few weeks ago. Now the horse isn’t even in the race.
He is often presented as someone inside the Mullins camp but I wonder how much influence he actually has sometimes.
March 8, 2026 at 12:25 #1757610If the Jukebox Man was trained by Mullins he would probably be odds on.
The more I know the less I understand.
March 8, 2026 at 12:31 #1757612I wouldn’t go quite that far RTB but I hear what you say. The facts he is trained by someone who has not had a Gold Cup winner and the belief of King George winners being about speed rather than stamina are arguably affecting his price.

March 8, 2026 at 13:36 #1757618Agree with the sentiment that at least a saver on the Cromwell horse is needed. I did hear a fair argument on one of the endless (and on the whole pretty dull) previews that even if he is as good as last year he may not win as this year’s renewal looks hotter, could be right. But I wouldn’t want to see him tank up the hill with no interest in him.
March 8, 2026 at 13:43 #1757619He’s like Haiti , there’s no will he get up the hill question

March 9, 2026 at 03:13 #1757690HDLG – Jukebox isn’t the most talented currently regardless of his King George win, now he very well might end up being the most talented as he could be the one open to further improvement but equally that extra 2F could also find him out too.
Potentially there is a lot of pace in the race or at least plenty that like to be riddden handy and that could be a problem for Haiti because if he is taken on, he might have trouble getting to the front and staying there as he is used to bossing slower staying chasers over longer trips on deeper ground where they go several strides slower in pace than what he could face in a Gold Cup. The old addage that the easiest way to get a stayer beaten is to force them to go too fast too early on could apply here.
I truly hope that Inothewayurthinkin doesn’t repeat last year’s win again simply because I detest the way he has been schooled to fitness in public through the whole winter (for the last two seasons) with many ‘no show’ abysmal performances.
Yes I take on board that he is clearly a spring horse but that doesn’t excuse (outside of his 4th in 2025 Irish Gold Cup and last year’s Gold Cup win), his other 4 completed races over the last two seasons seeing him being beaten a total of 145L!
March 9, 2026 at 07:48 #1757698LD the KG form is the best bit of form this season , he won that so surely he’s the most talented , last year’s winner is likely to show better form ( I backed him last year ) however he’s in a better race , as for other horses taking on Haiti , all the rest bar last year’s winner aren’t sure they’ll stay , Haiti is Native and he’ll the front at some point , it could end with a very finish to Natives yearJ

March 9, 2026 at 23:39 #1757831I would argue that the John Durkan and the Irish Gold Cup form is just as good as the King George and Gaelic Warrior is the common denominator to all three races.
For clarification, when I mean ‘most talented’ I am talking about a horse’s natural talent and to me Gaelic Warrior is the standout in that field.
He won what was the 2m Irish Sweeps Handicap Hurdle in Ireland under top weight of 11-12 (the only horse to win carrying more than that was Champion Hurdler Comedy of Errors), GW was runner up in the 2m5f Ballymore and then won a G1 3m hurdle at Punchestown. His first two chase races over 2m3f saw him beat Inothewayurthinkin (15L) and Il Etait Temps (5L) and the won an Arkle Chase over 2m.
He won the Aintree Bowl over 3m1f beating Grey Dawning and the the aformentioned John Durkan over 2m3f beating FTF (a contender for race of the season) and has won on ground ranging from good to heavy and everything inbetween. In 21 career starts he has only finsihed outside of the first 3 just twice.
The Jukebox Man would not have been capable of a lot of those things and outside of his King George win, his form isn’t as strong and I do believe that he will need to improve again on his King George run to win – his two wins prior to that was beating Iroko and Hyland who are both running in the Ultima Handicap Chase tomorrow.
Yes I wouldn’t disagree that he is likely open to more improvement than GW based on him having only had 11 career starts but on natural talent he falls short of GW…..well to me he does.
March 10, 2026 at 03:23 #1757836But Gaelic didn’t win the Irish Gold cup , he got beat ( and anything else behind him ) by a horse they don’t think can win a GC and is running in the Ryanair , that’s questionable form and certainly doesn’t answer the will he stay question, I disagree that the Jukebox man has questionable form , he won the KG beating GW

March 11, 2026 at 13:06 #1758397Just waiting for Cromwell’s post race interview now, where he says the horse is now on two cans of Red Bull as part of his evening feed.
