If he doesn’t stay it won’t matter where Townsend goes , Chapman is in the he won’t stay camp , even if he does I’ll be amazed if there’s not a better stayer , Curtis must really fancy her horse now , he’s really got a cracking chance , I’ll be looking for a bit price e.w for a 4 place bookie , I still think we haven’t seen the real Lecky Watson this season

What a shame. Will we even see him again?

I was asking the same DBR. Maybe one more try at a John Durkan or Savill’s next season. If he can’t get him fit, they’ll retire him. It would make no sense to run for 4th place prize money at Christmas.

This is exactly why McManus is in no rush to make a decision on supplementation until he has to! To call him pathetic for being sensible is idiotic!

His decision didn’t depend on GDC’s participation. He is long enough in the business to know what a GC is or not. He remains a crook of the highest order which also applies to his supporters.

“What a shame. Will we even see him again?”

I guess Tramore on New Years’ Day- he wouldn’t have to carry a penalty. Then straight to the Gold Cup, finish down the field, possible swansong at Punchestown, retire.

Such a shame, though have to feel his age is catching up with him sound wise. He had the setback earlier this season and now this, which rules him out of remainder of the season.
If he does return next season he be late older 10yr old going on to 11yr old next year. I don’t think we will see him at his peak best again now
He is a lovely looking horse and sure when he dies retire he would make a great second career at whatever they choice for him

Not sure how someone can call JP pathetic. The guy is self made punter and investor. If he didn’t buy horses the NH game wud have a huge hole in it.

Shame and I very much doubt we will see GDC at the Festival again as he will be 11 next season and you have to go way back to Mandarin in 1962 to find the last 11yr old to win the race and you still have to go back to 1998 and the 10 yr old Cool Dawn to find the last double digit aged horse to win the race.

If he is ok, I think the obvious big target for him would be to try and equal Florida Pearl’s record 4 Irish Gold Cup wins and that would likely be via the John Durkan and Savills chases. Florida Pearl was actually 12 when he won his 4th renewal, so GDC has an advantage there in that he would be a year younger. If he were able to do that, then that would be a fitting swangsong and the right note to head off into retirement from.

I think GW pretty much has to run in the race now – hand on heart of the two I think he is more likely to see the trip out than FTF. GW has already won over 3m1f at Aintree and also won over 3m on soft ground as a novice hurdler – if he settles (a big if I know and I think they will need to ride him cold to do so) he has as good a chance as any.

Sad news, second only to KS this century; still remember his spectacular chasing debut.

No I Am Maximus, no Lecky Watson, no Fact to File and no Nick Rockett.. Looks like Mullins thinks Gaelic Warrior is a Gold Cup horse afterall
None of this throwing mud at a wall hoping something sticks, just sniper precision
Do I cash out now HDLG?

I hope Fact To File gets beat in the Ryanair, not that I’ll be watching it if he does. Too much ducking and diving. Should be going for Gold. Same old story, bit boring now. No pocket talking here just the best should be going for the Grade 1 pinnacle of the meeting not these Grade 1 in name penalty kicks. He stays fine its just Willie wants all of the cakes

He stays 3m fine but the Gold Cup through the years has a whole host of great chasers that stayed 3m fine but always found the extra 2F beyond them. He is in the race they know they can win as opposed to the race they hope they can win.

That being said, personally they should have given him the chance to prove definitively whether the 3m2f trip is too far or not, especially given it is a rather open looking renewal this year and the fact that at 9 he will be (statistically) too old next season.

These type of things are as a direct result of the Festival going to 4 days and them now providing pretty much every type of horse an opportunity to win a G1 at their specific distance (except for the G1 2m4f hurdlers……which if they go to 5 days, I fully expect that oversight to be rectified).

At the end of the day there is no point blaming Mullins as the owner always has the option of overuling what race the trainer thinks the horse should run in and JP in particular I very much doubt would be shy in making his opinion known……maybe he actually thinks that lightning will strike twice with Inothewayurthinkin.

The Fact To File news was brilliant news for my antepost accas. He was probably the single most recurring selection in all my Festival bets.

I still think running in the Ryanair is the wrong decision though. I’d have supplemented him and waited to see if the Gold Cup ground was going to be decent.
The Ryanair, while still a festival Grade 1, Is a Mickey Mouse affair compared to the Gold Cup.

Regarding Nick Rockett has he any entries elsewhere? As he needs a run to qualify for this year’s Grand National
