Two main bet winners in Valseur Lido and Su Lieutenant on Saturday, may be I should stick to Irish racing?
Could’ve easily have been three from three had Southfield Theatre not come down at the last at Wincanton.

Now here’s one at a massive price and bearing in mind I’ve backed four of the last five Grand National winners, only Rule The World pipping my two The Last Fling and Vics Canvas spoiling the run.

    So:
    Grand National:
16 points @ 66/1 (PP) Henri Parry Morgan* (min 40/1)

Henri Parry Morgan improved to win a couple of handicaps on soft ground and progression didn’t stop there. On good-soft splitting National favourite Native Ruler and RSA winner Blaklion in the Mildmay at Aintree last April. Then, favourite – off a mark of 149 – for the Bet365 Gold Cup when last seen – on good. Had jumped well and still going well when unseating 6 out. Peter Bowen isn’t thought of as a top trainer and often goes in and out of form. However, has a good record in April, won the Scottish National with Al Co in 2014. Won Topham Chase over these fences with Dunbrody Millar in 2007 and three times with Always Waining from 2010 to 2012. McKelvey unlucky in the main event in 2007, second to Silver Birch. According to his website the National “remains the race Peter wants to win more than any other”. Suppose it is with most trainers, but nice to hear. Staying chasers is where Bowen excels, also trained Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up Take A Stand. Henri Parry Morgan is just the type Bowen usually improves in their second season over fences. Has fallen or unseated twice, but his jumping style is generally an asset and likely to get more consistent with experience.

Sizing Codelco’s stable are in good form; transfered to Tizzard from Bromhead. Possible this 2 miles might be too short these, but Johnny OG and De Faoithesdream are confirmed front runners so hopefully they’ll go a good enough pace to bring SC’s stamina in to it.

Monbeg River ran well on reappearance when second to Owen Na View at Wetherby. The probable good pace here should suit him well – although disappointed Next Sensation has come out. If you’re going to do just one horse then Monbeg River should be it.

Irish horse Pairofbrowneyes has been well backed, usually races not to far away. If they don’t overdo the pace should be thereabouts.

Don’t really fancy any of the others.

Sizing Codelco didn’t jump well enough, although didn’t look enthusiastic either. Monbeg River travelled well but didn’t find. Don’t think it was a great race. Un Beau Roman possibly won with a bit in hand after hampered 2 out, but can’t be relied on to reproduce this. If there are horses to take out of the race… Pairofbrowneyes, ran well, two mistakes in latter stages counting and idled a bit on run-in. Bally Longford travelled well for a long way first time for Tizzard.

Not had a bet, but looking forward to the novice chase.
