Well I was right about Monarchs Glen being vulnerable but picked the wrong horse to beat him
April 29, 2017 at 20:19 #1298927Akihiro was supplemented today for the Greffulhe.
Seems odd he wasn’t entered at the first stage. Maybe it was just a clerical error.

Perhaps they felt he would have won comfortably last time and gone straight to Epsom. He certainly looked to me that he needed to go to the Greffulhe and win it well to get his Derby challenge back on track.
My ante-post on him sits about an angstrom from the bin at the moment.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

I see Aidan has eight of the thirteen entries in the Derrinstown on Sunday and they look uninspiring to me. Seven of them lost last time, with Venice Beach the only winner. They look a largely exposed bunch and it’s starting to look like Aidan has a poor hand again this year.
I am more than happy with Cracksman at this stage. Others look to lack scope, some are dubious stayers. I feel that the Gosden colt can probably win the Derby if he improves about 10 lb next time and then about 8 lbs in the Derby itself.
The Racing Post gave Cracksman a rating of 105 for his Epsom trial win but in their Free To View Ratings Update Timeform were more impressed by Gosden’s Colt and awarded him 108P, with the capital P signifying that the horse is open to more than normal improvement.
Gosden stated that he was sending Cracksman to Epsom to sharpen him up mentally, commenting that the horse is totally laid back and that the track would help to teach him. He also added that the horse will definitely get a mile and a half.
In an awful looking year in terms of strength in depth I have gone in again at 12/1 on Cracksman. He already looks a far better prospect than Wings Of Desire did at the same stage last year. I would have Cracksman favourite if I were pricing the race up because of doubts aplenty almost everywhere you look.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
May 3, 2017 at 08:50 #1299244Yeeeeaaayyy! Who had May 3rd in the 2017 “It’s a Shite Year” sweepstake?!!!
I agree the Derrinstown looks a weak renewal Stevie but what about the Guineas? Churchill, Barney Roy and Eminent are all potential middle-distance horses. Then you have the bullets that Aidan hasn’t fired yet like Cliffs of Moher and Sir John Lavery not to mention the French horses. I would be careful about writing it off before we have even had the Chester, Lingfield or York trials let alone the Guineas.
PS I would love you to be right about Cracksman obviously ;)

May 3, 2017 at 11:13 #1299251I think the Guineas looks a good renewal Joni but I am not sure the winner will head to Epsom and none of them really cry out as being as good, or better, over an extra half mile.
I have pencilled Sir John Lavery in as a horse to oppose when he reappears. His maiden win looks very weak. The 2nd and 3rd have looked very ordinary since and nothing has won in 17 starts.
I am having doubts that Sir John Lavery has the pace for Epsom. He ran over 9F on debut and then on bottomless ground over a mile. I suspect he will run in the Chester Vase and I will be against him wherever he turns up. The general feel is that Aidan’s colts look a bit slow.
Time will tell whether I am correct or wrong, I am simply posting my views.

Thank you, Steve, but it felt better to me to delete them.
You put a lot of work, effort, and expertise in here that I think my post wasn’t quite fair to you. Moreover I was really a bit struck by German beer:-)..Maybe Akihoro was just an early shot of you, and I would agree that the recent situation looks quite good for Cracksman, provided Frankie will handle him better in the big race. Probably John Gosden will teach him to, won’t he
?May 3, 2017 at 14:43 #1299268Another terrible ride from Frankie on Icespire.
Even if she needs to come from the rear, I think he must do this better!May 3, 2017 at 17:49 #1299286Time will tell whether I am correct or wrong, I am simply posting my views.
Well of course you are. Just not sure we can tell for sure right now when we haven’t had any of the main trials.

May 4, 2017 at 14:48 #1299359What are people’s views on Diore Lia running?
500/1 at the moment and I gather the owner is trying to entice the Australian jockey Michelle Payne to ride. Finished 8th of 9 on her only start in a maiden at Epsom last week.
Acceptable or should this be discouraged?
May 5, 2017 at 18:36 #1299469Ain’t horse running for a good cause sure i heard like that

I think Capri will turn out to be a Derby horse so dont give up just yet Daz.
May 5, 2017 at 23:52 #1299532I think it’s pretty much a myth that the Derrinstown is a good pointer for the Derby.
Seamie is on Yucatan and the field has cut down to six runners. I don’t think much of any of them.
David Lawrence on ATR reckons that whichever of Aidan’s colts wins this Derrinstown will take all the beating in the Derby. Nah, that ain’t gonna happen. They look exposed and moderate to me.
Time will tell but I don’t think Aidan has a good crop this season.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

No crap in the Derby please. It’s a Classic, not It’s a Knockout.
Horse’s with a RPR of 23 have no place in the most famous flat race in history.
Too much is being hijacked in the name of “Charridy” these days.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
May 6, 2017 at 16:57 #1299702One for the Crackheads today as Permian franks the Cracksman form.
