Dawn Approach’s run in the 2000 guineas looked so good but several of the trends seem to point against him.

9 of 10 winners were born before 15th March (exception born on 6th April) – Foaled April 23rd
9 of 10 winners had had 2 to 5 career starts – Has had 7

Not something that would concern me Patrick. Similar trends had applied prior to the Guineas and look how that ended up.

Would that be DePorres or Molony?

I know I said dawn approach would not win the guineas, but surely 2.8 on betfair is a crazy price for the derby?

you only have to look at the dams side of the pedigree to see there might be a serious problem with him getting the derby trip. also as pricewise pointed out, he’s hardly likely to be any shorter on the day, plenty to come out and show their hand, there’s bound to be an impressive winner of one of the trials which will shake up the betting…

I too think the prices are very short for Dawn Approach. I’m not convinced he will stay the mile and a half although his run at newmarket was very impressive.

I want to see how Telescope and Battle of Marengo do in the Dante Stakes next week, they seem to be the only contenders right now.

Much may depend this year on whether Kingbarns or Mars line up at Newmarket.

Kingsbarns was always my idea of the Derby winner Joni, I even backed him ante post in the Guineas as I saw him as the biggest danger to Dawn Approach but he didn’t run.
The rush to back Dawn Approach after the Guineas was likened to the rush to back Toronado and Hot Snap after the Craven and Nell Gwyn.
Best to hold fire until the day now but if DA runs I hope he wins :D Jac

Telescope has won a maiden and not by very far, why is he so popular? His pedigree looks more St Leger than Derby.

I think its more his breeding more than anything look at Darshaan’s progeny and look at the races they have won over 12f its very impressive so get a

    Darshaan

    mare match her with

    Galileo

, produce a colt who can run and look like he will improve big time… you’ve got a 3rd in line for the derby :D

looking at the Dams side of Dawn Approach i think there must be a doubt he will stay 1m 4f,In the Timeform Annual Jim Bolger stated that his class and temperament may help him stay 1m 2f,the Derby is 2f further and although the world and his wife think he has it won already i will take him on,the question is which of Galileo`s sons to back against him, perhaps the Dante will offer some important clues

Someone once said(I think it was Andre Fabre)when you have enough stamina to win the Derby you probably have too much(too slow).Lester said that a good mile and 1/4 horse can win the Derby.Due to the shape of the course and Lester riding I suppose.
