I’ve added Remastered here for third year running, and took 16’s (and now 25’s), should he start his season off well tomorrow

    Midnight River 33’s
    Remastered 25’s

I’ve added Ahoy Senor at 20-1 here, to go with my 33-1 on Dusart

Its going to be a very strange race if Ahoy Senor does rock up and a very weak one if he doesn’t. If he rocks up he’s conceding 12lbs+ to the field and there won’t be many carrying over 11 stone, if he doesn’t we’re probably looking at Stolen Silver or Midnight River as top weights. What’s happened to this once great race?

Another thing to consider is I believe the grounds good-soft currently and they can’t water it so if its a relatively dry week that ground could get quite quick. I’ve already backed Mahler Misson antepost but I’m very interested in Our Power now too.

Given the weights I’ll be playing Twig and Kittys light.

“What’s happened to this once great race?”

All the good horses are trained in Ireland now and the Irish do not really target this race.

    I’m homing in on

    Stolen Silver and
    Bill Baxter

But haven’t placed bets yet – I’ll prob wait ’til raceday though. There’s too many races lately, where intended runners are pulled nearer to the day or even on the day.

Bill Baxter my main hope right now, not counting my poor ante-post. GA Law or Max Flamingo as potential backups, but the weather will obviously play a part

As above; but gone in early (for me).

    Stolen Silver 14s
    Bill Baxter 20s

However, I think there’s a chance both Friday and Saturday, at Newbury, could fall to the bone crunching temps and frosts forecast over the coming nights.

Cloudy Glen 25/1 to win this again. Had a perfect prep run in Cheltenham and very capable off 143.

It’s an excruciatingly open renewal, so I’ll have a pop on two at a price.

Zanza is a big enough price for a horse at his second home. Can’t buy form anywhere else, but at Newbury he is utterly deadly.

Eldorado Allen is likely being aimed for Aintree, but he is so well treated, I can’t leave him alone here. Was fortunate to be third last time, but I still think this track and trip will suit.

I won’t be backing Kitty’s Light, however I am hopeful of a good run with one eye on April. See Corach Rambler last year.

Added Datsalrightgino, not entirely convinced he’ll stay he’s a full sibling to Darebin who was a 2 miler basically but he does shape like he will and if he does his form over the intermediate trip behind Stage Star and in beating Thunder Rock gives you some hope he’s capable of putting up a bold showing. It’s an interesting race but I doubt there are many/any grade 1 horses in here to be honest bar the top weight who is capable on his day but has his own ideas about the game. Good luck all, just delighted to have some racing on to be honest.

Mahler Mission 17/2 looks the right type for this race. He has very solid form in Grade 2 chases, stays well and the course should suit.

Might be a bit of sentiment, but this race may bring out the best in Ahoy Senor 14/1 e/w 1/5 6 placesand he’s the class act if on song. Signs of whether it’s a going day should show on the first circuit.

Gone with Mahler Mission missed fancy prices but didn’t want to risk antepost.

Should be thereabouts, fairly obvious claims.

As for the McConnell form bandied about. Not a concern to me, not many short priced horses, and mostly hurdlers where his strike rate is much lower. Irish big guns are reappearing which is not when he’s at his best.
