Emily Upjohn 6-1
June 2, 2023 at 16:18 #1649931Do we have to have sponsors’s names in thread race titles, especially if they’re bookies who have effectively closed me down?
Interesting bet, though, Mike.

I reckon so. Like the Bet365 Gold Cup.
June 2, 2023 at 16:57 #1649957100s of Gold Cups though Mike
Only two Eclipse’s though
One at Sandown and one with Nathbet where you deposit some money and it’s gone within a blink your eye.

June 4, 2023 at 08:38 #1650410Backed Emily Upjohn at 11/2. I do not see the drop back in distance being a problem.

While I get what you mean, Mike – that race has only ever existed through sponsorship and was originally the Whitbread – that’s not always the case.
Tbh, calling the International Stakes at York the Juddmonte is even worse – it’s like calling the Eclipse the Coral.
I refuse on a point of general principle (I don’t care how much these proliferation put into racing, they’re doing it for a commercial reason anyway) to ever use a sponsor’s name, especially if it’s a bookie who has restricted me!
So it’ll always be the Mackeson to me, for example.
Each to their own, though.
Should be a cracking ECLIPSE this year!

Maybe I am being slow this morning and have missed some clever irony but Mackeson is a sponsor’s name. It is a brand of milk stout, which was once hugely popular. Not so much nowadays but it is still on sale.
June 4, 2023 at 09:37 #1650423Like the Whitbread, AFAIK it’s another race that only ever existed through sponsorship, CAS.
So it’s the exception that makes the rule!
Sounds a vile beverage, but Mackeson never restricted me to backing horses to win a FIVER so I’d rather use their name than that ever-so-jolly bookie outfit who might run hilarious marketing campaigns but won’t actually lay a bet to anyone who has the first clue what they’re doing!
Rant over, sir!
Hope you’re all suitably amused!

You must be doing something right for them to be restricting you
My hills, 365 and coral accounts have fallen by the way side
Fortunately my friends like a football bet so I can get them to put bets on if one of those cowards are best price
Maybe I should’ve put a few bets on virtual speedway to throw them off and keep my account
Seems to be a big red flag for an account backing ante post horses that shorten dramatically
Wasn’t even winning on my 365 account and they shut it completely, a trading decision apparently

They should be forced to lay a minimum bet to everyone to get a gambling licence
Yet account closures never get mentioned in the racing post, all they care about is the affordability checks for the losing punters not what happens to people winning or holding their own.
Rant over hahaha
June 4, 2023 at 12:20 #1650460Mackeson was lovely. You could drink it all day and not get tipsy, too.

June 4, 2023 at 12:37 #1650469I don’t mind the occasional can of Mackeson but the sweet taste of the lactose puts me off drinking it too often.
Ena Sharples famously liked drinking it in the snug of the Rovers Return. Which probably helps to explain why it went out of fashion.

My best riposte to that is to quote legendary gambling Point trainer Joe O’Shea, who I was having a bit of banter with at Larkhill Point last autumn.
Joe was prowling round the betting ring, no doubt with a wedge of cash the size of Bournemouth in his pocket ready to back his horse Envious Editor in the next; “4/7, 1/2, these bookies are hopeless, where’s the Evens?” Joe said.
“Think of it as a mark of the respect they have for you, Joe,” I replied.
“Respect won’t pay me bills!” was Joe’s retort.

June 4, 2023 at 16:07 #1650529The issue of bookmaker restrictions has been considerably exercising me of late. Since being effectively closed down by Skybet Betfair Sportsbook ( most ironically named bookies ever?) and Unibet (Stan James as was ) I decided to stop taking out any winnings from my other sites. I’m a very small scale punter (usually a fiver ew) but I now have 4 figure surpluses at Bet 365 Hills and Ladbrokes but find they are still giving me freebies (free bets bet boosts etc) I’m very alarmed to hear about your experiences however and wonder if I’ve just been lucky to sneak in under these bookies radar?
June 4, 2023 at 16:28 #1650530I was once told Bet365 let you get up to £8,000 in front with them before restricting you and tbf that was my exact experience with them.
But they restrict people quicker if they take the proverbial – only ever bet in niche markets like Hunters’ Chases or back the unnamed favourite in a Classic trial in a double with the horse who clearly will go off favourite for the trial for the Classic itself (related contingency loophole), that sort of thing.
Other bookies restrict for far less – Paddy Power nailed me after £600 and one firm made me SP only after just one (losing!) bet, presumably because the horse I backed at 14/1 started 4/1 and was only beaten a neck.
It all depends on how you operate, I think, not just your stakes but your overall pattern of activity.
Regularly wasting a quid or two in the casino triggers the recreational punter flags in their software and can buy you time – I was told that by someone who actually works for an online firm.
Hope that helps.

I have operated in pretty much the same way across all accounts and so I guess they each have their individual markers. Betfair being part of the same group as PP closed me down effectively at about the same point as your PP restriction. - AuthorPosts
