Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
January 22, 2022 at 12:06 #1579235Agree with TTC. No thoughts of March until after the race. The build up has been exciting and hopefully the race will live up to it, which i think it will.
January 22, 2022 at 12:14 #1579238Aye, its reminded me of that Tingle Creek all week HDLG. Which, for all the Cheltenham obsession, is easily the best 2m race of the millenium thus far.
Takeyourtime, if my speculative First Flow bet doesn’t land, my biggest hope is Energumene and Shishkin have a barnstormer and remain with a fag paper between them on form.

January 22, 2022 at 13:12 #1579249“I think First Flow will make the running”.
He might try but I think Energumene will ‘bust his gut’ from the front instead as the ground isn’t testing enough. If Energumene waits in behind I’d be more confident of Shishkin winning, though I think he will anyway.
January 22, 2022 at 13:55 #1579265Would be surprised if FF has the basic speed or is slick enough at his fences to lead Energumene and why would you change tactics and not lead with Energumene as that is his style or racing?
For me, he needs to try and get Shishkin into deep waters by going strong and making it more of a searching test than who has the best turn of foot (its Shishkin without doubt), don’t forget Energumene has won over 2m4f on heavy ground.
He reminds me quite a bit of Un de Sceaux in that he doesn’t have an instant turn of foot but he can go a real fast lung bursting gallop and maintain it (especially in soft/deep ground) for a long long way and in most cases longer than his rivals can stand……..all things being equal I think today will tell us just what Shishkin is really made of.
January 22, 2022 at 15:41 #1579304Great race.
January 22, 2022 at 15:41 #1579305What a fantastic race.

January 22, 2022 at 15:42 #1579307Fabulous stuff. Shishkin has some engine. Great run by Energumene too. I bet Townend cannot believe he got beaten.
January 22, 2022 at 15:42 #1579308What a race.
January 22, 2022 at 15:43 #1579309Absolute blaster of a match. My heart was in my throat.
January 22, 2022 at 15:43 #1579310Fantastic race and Nico did very well to stay aboard. The Cheltenham rematch will be a very interesting one, though Shishkin should be slightly favoured.
Truly a race for the ages….
January 22, 2022 at 15:44 #1579312Brilliant stuff. Two absolute machines.

January 22, 2022 at 15:44 #1579313Good race. I think Energumene is a slightly better jumper but Shishkin is just that bit bigger with a bigger engine and could have won by a little more if necessary.
January 22, 2022 at 15:44 #1579315Jeez. I’m shaking all over. I watched it through my fingers. My voice is hoarse from shouting Shishkin home! I really didn’t think he’d get there! I don’t look forward to races like this as they’re usually a disaster or a disappointment.
January 22, 2022 at 15:44 #1579316Great race.
I think Cheltenham hill will suit Shishkin the more of the two.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
January 22, 2022 at 15:45 #1579317Fantastic stuff, that was a proper mid 170s race, this could be fun going forward
January 22, 2022 at 15:45 #1579318Better engine beat the better jumper on the day? Cracking race much needed for the sport. Shame it was buried on ITV4 not the main channel
