Mullins isn’t interested in standing in the runners up area.

Mullins has nothing of note in the Mares Hurdle if Lossiemouth goes Champion Hurdle so trainer will have that to consider as well for his race planning. Jade De Grugy reverting to hurdles and going Mares Hurdle would give him a shot at it but not a ‘market leading’ shot.

Strong chance both Mares come here now , I imagine anyone on Golden Ace e.w will be thinking they’ve got one of the best value e.w of the week

Its still quite a muddling picture. Must be heavy odds against Sir Gino making Cheltenham now. Race wasn’t run to suit TNL today so I’m not saying thats all he is but at the same time his form in open company and his form at 2m full stop is no better than Golden Ace’s. I’m still not convinced Lossie is a true 2 miler either but probably more of one than TNL and she could be classy enough in what won’t take much winning. If Constitution Hill did get back to 75% of what he was and he can stand up he probably just wins this but its a huge if.

It was always my favourite race of the season, now it’s pretty average. 2M hurdling is in a terrible state…….
Top novices going straight to fences, decent flat horses not bothering/ being sold elsewhere……

No guarantee Lossiemouth is going to run in Champion Hurdle. It would not surprise me if she got beat at DRF. The horse with most speed in Irish Champion Hurdle is Anzadam and only a few weeks ago Mullins was saying this was his Champion Hurdle horse.

If she is to win one it’ll be this year , I’ll be very surprised if Ricci isn’t desperate to have a go

What happened in the Fighting Fifth? He had every chance to go past Golden Ace.

I reckon Lossiemouth will end up in the Mares but I would like to see her at least have a go in one Champion Hurdle.

    “2M hurdling is in a terrible state…….”

It is. I don’t see it getting better any time soon either.

I posted a clip earlier of Halkopous running over hurdles. Good Flat horses like him still did so in the early 90s. Now with the all weather and international racing, there is no reason to do so anymore.

I suppose the occasional good Flat horse is still seen over timber. But when you consider what happened to poor Sir Erec in the Triumph Hurdle, there is too much risk for not much reward to run a good Flat horse in the National Hunt arena.

Throw in all the novice hurdle winners from the point to point field being put over fences in their second season and it doesn’t add up to a very good situation.

After the sad events of Saturday, my feeling is that Lossiemouth will end up here as long as she either wins at the DRF, or is beaten a short distance at the DRF by Brighterdayahead. Brighterdaysahead hasn’t been good at Cheltenham so connections of Lossiemouth may feel they can reverse it in the Champion Hurdle. If another horse wins at the DRF the Mares Hurdle might be the route.

It’s a pity Cliffs of Moher, Antony van Dyck and Sir Dragonet didn’t go over hurdles.

There is still plenty of time left for a Alderbrook type to win first time out over jumps in The Kingwell and then go for the CH.

Think it’s just championship races only NRMB at the moment, VF.
