Apple’s Jade was superb today and should be going in the Champion. But he won’t.
Can someone please start a petition to get rid of the mares race at the festival?
December 2, 2018 at 21:11 #1387887Apple’s was pretty fab today, jumped straight too (albeit on a right handed course). I think 2.5 is her perfect distance so think fair enough to send her to the mares’ race.
December 2, 2018 at 21:36 #1387889Like wex and ham I am interested to see what Melon can do this season. He’s a big gangly sort who could easily have strengthened over the summer and if he gets the better ground he likes at the festival and settles well enough to be ridden closer to the pace and out of trouble (he nearly jumped into the back of Identity Thief in last season’s CH and then later had to get Faugheen to shove over so as not to get run out of it coming onto the rail) he could give Buv something to think about.
Mind you he doesn’t look straightforward. Races keen but doesn’t like the hood; looks like too much racing would fry his brains and possibly his lanky body….if Mullins can get him to win the CH it will be a good training feat, especially as he looks good but not a superstar.
Meanwhile Buv just keeps beating everything put in front him, looks more straightforward to ride, has probably improved for the wind op and if it’s true that he was nowhere near 100% fit (trainer has consistently said he’s a fat beast who needs racing) then look out the opposition!
December 4, 2018 at 09:46 #1387979I put this up on the Fighting Fifth thread in regards to AJ
“I think for all the claims that AJ should be heading to the Champion, people need to remember that she performed close to this level this time last year, before falling off a cliff in the Spring. Elliot + Co are obviously keeping that in mind, and are keeping their targets sensible in the meantime. I hope they do give her a run at the Leopardstown and then we might know where we stand with her going forward. It wouldn’t be too late for them then to change their minds and go elsewhere come March.”

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 4, 2018 at 13:04 #1387995I think Apples Jade’s connections are pinning their hopes on something small and round this spring.
December 26, 2018 at 17:19 #1390317That was a bit of a turn up with Buveur D’air losing today
perhaps there is life in this race afterallBlackbeard to conquer the World
December 26, 2018 at 19:03 #1390335Might be an extra couple of horses put in this race now, but laurina or melon for me still
December 30, 2018 at 19:38 #1390862Buvuer still easily the best horse in this race in my opinion. I’m happy he got beat as you’ll get a slightly better price for a horse that hasn’t cast any further doubts in my mind. I don’t think they had him fully wound up for the Christmas hurdle in all honestly as Henderson has done before ( example: sprinter sacre nearly getting beat by sire de grugy in desert orchid) as they probably didn’t think he needed to be to win it. And the really poor jump wasn’t a help either. Still can’t see him losing here and I’m well happy with the odds here. He was what 4/6 last season ? I think he’s a better horse this season and his rivals have faultered other than Laurina but all she has is novice mares form. Yes she destroyed everything but you can’t seriously put that form into 2nd fav for champion hurdle? I think her price is ludicrous until we see here against some older mares or against some boys. Otherwise you’re betting blind and on hype. I think she should be 16s for this. Anyways max bet Buvuer D’air now 11/8
December 30, 2018 at 19:54 #1390863I agree that Laurina’s price is silly and based on hype.
And that Buv is very good.
But I think Melon will win.December 31, 2018 at 14:49 #1390910Just a heads up for anyone backing Melon, I went to back him ante post today in Fred’s and they told me he is 16s, not the 10s as showing on oddschecker!
Got another member of staff to double check and even showed them oddschecker on my phone, but they insisted he was 16s, so I doubled my stake!
So if you want to get on, Fred’s is the one!
January 3, 2019 at 12:50 #1391175Buv will still beat this lot !! He is just a better price now !! LOL 11/8 !!
January 5, 2019 at 10:29 #1391428No Betfred shops here so I went ahead and backed Melon for half those odds – 8/1 EW 1/4 odds NRNB with b365. Of course Laurina might win by half the track this afternoon but she looks more like a big lump of a staying chaser to me and I don’t know if she would have the speed to beat the best 2m hurdlers if there is good in the going description.
January 5, 2019 at 10:39 #1391433At this stage, I would like to be with Melon as well Greenasgrass at 10-1, but not enough for me to bet Antepost.
January 5, 2019 at 14:28 #1391495Not one single penny on this, despite being interested in several at one stage or another.
I dodged a bullet with We Have A Dream and Bedrock, but the flipside is that I didn’t get the 50’s for Sharjah.
Outsiders I’m really keen on are…..
Silver Streak, and Mohaayed, both 66’s. If I could get 50’s NRNB, I would have a go, but for first time in years, still no bet.
January 5, 2019 at 15:04 #1391506VTC Mohayyed 50/1 non runner no bet and garaunteed odds at bet365 if it helps
January 5, 2019 at 15:58 #1391514How the hell did I miss that Assassins???
Thanks mate.
January 7, 2019 at 04:14 #1391653I’ve just backed Supasundae each way here with Bet365. Solid, consistent, decent record at Cheltenham and rarely runs a bad race. Solid each way bet imo.
Supasundae e/w 14/1 NRNB
