They went way too fast up front – didn’t think BVD was travelling with his usual zest even before he fell
March 12, 2019 at 15:36 #1401430Not sure any horse was beating Espor D’Allen today. Unbelievable.
March 12, 2019 at 15:38 #1401431AJ didn’t like being taken on.
Mullins spoiler tactics backfired though, his two going off too fast. Haha.Value Is EverythingMarch 12, 2019 at 15:40 #1401432Not quite sure what to make of that. I was right about a big priced place, I went
for the 66/1 shot, I should have gone the whole hog with the 100/1 outsider
Bit sick about Sharjah too. At least they all got up which is the main concern
March 12, 2019 at 15:42 #1401433I got the same impression LD, BD not travelling with his usual fluencey.
Value Is EverythingMarch 12, 2019 at 15:43 #1401435“Mullins spoiler tactics backfired… Haha.”
My sentiments exactly. Reminded me of the 1992 Gold Cup, when Jenny Pitman’s “stalking horse” tactics with Golden Freeze managed to get the mighty Carvill’s Hill beaten- only for the stable’s main hope, Toby Tobias, to be chinned by Cool Ground.
I love seeing team tactics fail in racing.
March 12, 2019 at 15:43 #1401436Yes
Geraghty never looked 100% happy
Lots of horses really struggling to travel on the ground today
March 12, 2019 at 15:45 #1401437It was set up for a hold up horse (Melon gets a lot of credit for finishing 2nd) but I will be interested in the time as I think this could be a bit of an anomaly type result where the form may not hold up.
March 12, 2019 at 15:45 #1401438WD Autumnal. I think he may well have won anyway even if Buv and Sharjah hadn’t come down and possibly even if Melon hadn’t acted as hare. I know the winning distance was exaggerated as Melon was set alight as the hare but still, excellent run.
March 12, 2019 at 15:48 #1401439A few too many “what ifs” in that one for me.
March 12, 2019 at 15:50 #1401440With Buveur D’air falling and Apple’s Jade failing at Cheltenham again it’s going to be hard to assess this race until Espoir D’allen runs again.
Fabulous run from Silver Streak. To go from winning a class 5 off 96 to third in a Champion Hurdle is amazing.
March 12, 2019 at 15:51 #1401441Luke Harvey just grabbed a word with Ruby and he said she was never travelling at any stage, I thought maybe it was because of how quick they were going but maybe the ground is worse than it looks.
March 12, 2019 at 15:54 #1401442Charli Parcs performed the same function last year. I agree its annoying and I’d be a bit pissed off if I was Melon’s owner that my horse was burnt up for the sake of Laurina. Still, he seemed to enjoy bombing along in front for most of the way much better than his lacklustre performances previously this season and was brave to stick on for second even though he was starting to get legless over the last two. I hope they mind him now and he gets a decent shot next year.
March 12, 2019 at 15:54 #1401443Time was 8.07s slower than standard but only 0.49s quicker than Klassical Dream, make of that what you will
March 12, 2019 at 15:59 #1401446Next year’s race is going to be interesting…
Klassical Dream and Espoir won well today but the price of the placed horses in both races muddies the waters.
Still no superstars on the horizon?March 12, 2019 at 16:02 #1401447I wouldn’t put it quite in the Golden Freeze department.
Melon had lost his form/enthusiasm since last year; not seemingly wanting to know.
Travelled with a lot more enthusiasm today, so in a way justified front-running/taking on Apples Jade. Suspect today’s second was a bit behind last year’s second on pure ratings “form”; but considering went too fast Melon did well and is probably still as capable when able to set a reasonable pace. Remember last year Mullins taking on the obvious danger (Edmonds horse) up front with a no hoper, giving Laurina an easy time in the Mares Novice – that was worse.Value Is EverythingMarch 12, 2019 at 16:23 #1401458There’s also a possibility Gordon Elliot’s horses are not in the best of condition? Although didn’t have a winner the first day last year, they were running well without winning (I had him in “good form”, an 8 out of 10). Went on to win a whole load of races in the next three days. In contrast, no horse of Elliot’s has run well today and came in to today with a poorish recent record too (a 4/10).
