Put The Kettle OnMarch 15, 2021 at 11:37 #1529603Even at 80/1 I wouldn’t be touching Altior. I would want to see 20/1 that he is still in training next March never mind winning the champion chase.
Ridiculed in November. Proven to be spot on in March

That is a ridiculous comment IMO Captain Robbo. Every horse has their price and if 80/1 doesn’t tempt you on Altior then I feel the concept of ‘value’ is well and truly passing you by.
Who ended up with the value? Was it me with the ridiculous comment or was it Charlie?

I suspect you’re alone on not accepting 80/1 odds on Altior winning the champion opinion wrong.Except your wrong, obviously
Except I was correct Frankie

. Don’t be surprised if he is retired before the festival. Im half expecting a bad scope, an accident at home or something else (after the outfit have laid the shizzle out of him after announcing to the press that he has never been better).
And the winner was the old schools classic ‘Bad Scope’ following last weeks claim that he had never been better. Benderson delivers once again.
March 15, 2021 at 13:34 #1529622Good to see you dignified as ever Robbo
Christ.March 15, 2021 at 13:42 #1529623It’s perfectly acceptable after being slaughtered for saying I wouldn’t touch Altior at any price and made out to be an idiot who had no concept of value because I wouldn’t touch a horse who I believed would be retired at any price.
Had the replies been along the lines of ‘I disagree with you but you are entitled to your opinion’ then a more dignified response would have been the way. As it is however
March 15, 2021 at 20:49 #1529715Robbo, not betting a horse like altior at 80/1 even though you have been proven correct, is still totally and utterly an incorrect opinion.
the point being made was that your comment of not betting him at 80/1 was nonsense, anyone with a brain would back him at 80/1
So yes in theory your correct on result, but your still grossly incorrect about the price in which he should have been.
Ps, charlie would still have ended up with more value than you if he had him at 80, hes been sitting at 7s, back/lay obv, again, your not very clued up on what value is are you?
March 15, 2021 at 21:30 #1529719Altior not being declared doesn’t validate your position on value.
March 15, 2021 at 21:43 #1529721Ham your points are completely invalid because if Altior had of been trading at 80/1 then everyone here would be saying ‘Altior cannot won because he is 80/1 and nobody would have touched him’.
You are correct Frankie Mac, Altior not running does not validate my position on value. My only bet in the race ew on Cilaos Emery at 50/1 may well show that I got good value but only if he wins or places if he is unplaced and well beaten then I got no value whatsoever irrelevant of the fact that he is now generally a 16/1 shot (14 in places).
Value is a term created by the bookmaking industry to trick low iq punters into thinking that even though they backed at odds higher than the horses sp that they have done a good thing even though it got beat. They didn’t. They picked a loser.
Spreadsheet over time if your in profit then you are doing well. If your at a loss then you are doing badly. Hide behind the value word all you like. If you go round backing horses that have been on the decline for over 3 years at single figure odds then you can never even claim value is your thing.
If you are discussing trading as opposed to actually taking a punt then this is a different topic.
March 16, 2021 at 19:52 #1530095My bet on Altior is obviously gone. I can’t see Chacun Pour Soi losing this. I’m a bit surprised to see a lot of support for Put the Kettle On. I’ve gone for Ciliaos Emery at 8/1 (without Chacun pour Soi).
Cilaos Emery (without Chacun Pour Soi) 8/1
March 16, 2021 at 20:35 #1530107Its not a different topic, your on a forum full of experienced punters largely who back and lay, some of the peoples points you highlighted most certaintly are taking about 80/1 as value in that capacity.
That may be your interpretation of value but that also is fiction in the current market with the easy accessibillity into laying on betfair. By encapsulating it into one opinipn might make it mean that to you, but that again, is fiction
If you wouldnt back altior at 80/1, your a losing punter end of story.
March 16, 2021 at 21:47 #1530117Still hoping Put The Kettle On can carry on the proud tradition of Arkle winners in this race. Also think First Flow is still too big a price.
