A nice run for Chacun, conservatively ridden on the heavy ground.

It was a nice run but it is absolutely ridiculous for some of the bookmakers to trim his price. He won a four runner race at 1-5 and where only two finished. How do those bookmakers think that has improved his chance in March?

Fair point on the face of the bare form, but surely the price was what it was before yesterday because he’s notoriously hard to get onto the track, rather than doubts about his ability?

It makes sense to me that whilst he wasn’t electrifying yesterday, the fact that he made the track, came through it unscathed and ultimately beat what was in front of him will have built confidence that there’s not a big problem ahead of Cheltenham.

I cashed out on Rouge Vif. Too risky really due to ground dependency. The connections quoted at the weekend that if the ground wasn’t right they may consider skipping it.

I love Altior and how he battles on in the end of his races and I also love how Chacun oozes class in his races however……Both have had issues and not raced as much as they maybe should have done. After last year where neither turned up I’d be wary about backing either of them but have no such concerns with backing Put The Kettle On. Watched the Arkle back and loved how she jumped, was inconvenienced a couple times with Cash Back jumping out to his right but once she seen him off she attacked the last fence and stayed on well going away from Fakir at the line.

Her reappearance was a tough race and would be hopeful she would improve from that. I think Duc Des Genievres was given a fantastic ride from Cobden and Coleman gave her quite a bit to do, considering she made a mistake 3 out she battled on brilliantly. Perfect record round the track, seems quite a straightforward horse, stays on well and I think she has a great chance to win this.

Agree on PTKO think she’s got a terrific chance in this…she’s got a few lbs to find on official ratings but she keeps on finding improvement, she jumps well and goes well at the course…also proved last time she can pull it out on ground she didn’t like.

Altior would be the one to beat were he to get there and be fit but there’s obvious question marks there…

Just don’t get the buzz with CPS? I can see why they shortened the price but can’t see why he was favourite in the first place! Has no course experience and I thought he jumped poorly on the whole the other day…compare his round of jumping with that of Shiskin, a novice who was having his first start over fences and they’re leagues apart!

I’d hate it to happen as I’ve an 8/1 price about Shiskin for the Arkle but if Altior doesn’t make it and CPS is the perceived best I’d readily take him on if I was NH…

CPS was one of the 2 horses that Willie Mullins was most enthusiastic about in his stable tour. So he could be a star. I understand the ‘he’s not been to Cheltenham’ angle for those taking him on but Willie has no concerns about him round there. His form last season had some substance to it as he beat Min who has won 2 Grade 1’s since. Will see how Notebook gets on against him over Xmas.

“I was hoping he might win a bit easier, but he needed it,” said Mullins. “I had done just enough with him to complete the job. There is huge improvement to come and that will bring him on loads.”

He added: “I’m a creature of habit so I would imagine we will head back to Leopardstown at Christmas with him now and chart the same course to the Champion Chase as last year.”

Ye Chacun’s victory over Min at the DRF was probably the standout 2 mile performance of the entire season.

The two grade 1’s Min has since won have been over two and a half miles though because he’s not as good at two miles…which is why he won’t be running in this.

He beat Min by less than an 11 year old UDS did two runs before…

I’ve just a feeling he’s not as good as they think he is…Christmas might tell us more…

Regardless of Min’s best distance, i think it’s hard to argue he’d be in the top 5 2 milers in UK or Ireland?

    Who else is there?

    CPS
    Altior
Politologue (as good as him over 2m.)

So as a prep for March which he failed to make, i’d say it’s a fair form line.

Min at Leopardstown over 2m? 12112 with most recently RPRs of 171, 172 and 175.

    He’s a very solid yardstick.

Main issue for me with CPS is if he’ll actually make March. I think the Hillyway was a weird place to start him, as now he’s got to either be rushed for Xmas or run close to Cheltenham at the DRF. Neither are ideal for a glass horse.

The latest injury that CPS sustained was puss in his foot, not one of those physical injuries that keeps a horse out for weeks and months. Was a 24 hour injury discovered on the eve of the race. I was happy to back him at 5-1 earlier in the season because, amongst other things, I thought what happened in March, was, as the connections put it, just bad timing.

Not all horses have long term injuries that keep them out of action- often can be small niggly setbacks, just like that one. I remember Joe Chambers actually saying they just couldn’t keep him from getting slight setbacks and thats why he took so long to make the track.

Yes it was unlucky to happen so close to the race, but for a horse that’s susceptible to small injuries thats how things can go.

I could be wrong but looking at his form timeline under WIllie Mullins I think that’s the only ‘injury’ he has had.

I thought so too though he just had a nice school round in the Hilly Way. The ground was heavy but he didn’t appear have a hard race at all. Trainer said after he’d done only just enough with him (ie not fit enough for a G1 at this point) but given he had an easy race they should be able to take him out and work him more or less straight away instead of losing several days’ recovery time, so 3 weeks should be enough to get him fitter and lose a bit of extra beef.

Yeah Mike that is wrong, he’s been with Mullins since Dec 2016

    Quote from his debut:

“Even the usually circumspect Mullins was surprised at the ease of his success, and said: “I think we’ve seen a real racehorse.

He’s had lots of niggly little problems, which kept him off for three years. He came right around Naas time and he won his beginners chase very well.

“He’s all the time shown me he could be a real racehorse. To turn in today with a JLT winner on one side and an Arkle winner on the other side – and Robbie said he was cantering. That shows us that he’s a real horse for the future.

“I said to Robbie ‘ride him around the outside and don’t get involved in a race with any of the other horses because he’s had so few runs – but if he’s as good as we think he is God knows what will happen’.

Sorry, I didn’t say what I wanted to say properly, I meant since Willie Mullins started running him I think that’s the only ‘injury’ he has had.

Zamorston, he beat a very well raced and confirmed 169 rated horse by 3+ lengths in a grade 1, with little experience to his name, there is no hype or buzz with cps, the form is confirmed and in the book, hes a 170+ rated animal, where is the evidence shishkin could achieve this? The beginners chase he won? Altior is by far more fragile than CPS currently and that doesnt look to be changing, can he still run to 170+?, i Doubt it.

Dont know if a stone bruise can constitute cps as being a glass horse, bar that hes been injury free for the best part of 2 years, which in racing terms is a long time, previously is irrelevant currently..
