Ham you have last year’s supreme and all he could do last time is win the way he won , 3 jumps on that round for a novice were unbelievable , I’ll be honest I backed both envoi Allen and shiskin as this year’s good things

That was a g1 novice hurdle

This is a champion chase, entirely different things,

I am by no means saying next year shiskin wont step up and be the 170+ horse, he certainly looks like he will, but absolutely nothing hes done as of now warrants the idea that he could run 170+ “yet” which he would need to.

Theres 0 chance shiskin comes here unless somehow everything picked up an injury, even then, it will be the arkle

HDLG, The difference between 160 & 170 is astronomical its considerably more when its novice -> open company

Goshen is another fine example of this.

Ham Goshen had a heart issue , conf by course vet , I’m amazed everyone seems to have dismissed him after yesterday , he,s still a young horse and due another chance , there is indeed a big difference between a 160 and 170 horse , can I ask what more can shiskin do to show he’s potentially a 170 plus horse , I can’t see a thing getting near him in the Arkle

I know that he will come in to a for his run in The Hilly Way, but I wasn’t blown away by Chacun Pour Soi.

I’ve decided to add Put The Kettle on at 8/1 to go with Notebook

Surprised Politologue is still as big as 9/1 in a place. You know what you are going to get with him. He will blast out in front, gallop and jump and keep them all honest.

If there are any flaws in Chacun or Altior, he will expose them. And given their profiles, there has to be a doubt they will turn up.

He was only a few lengths behind Altior in the 2019 renewal and is arguably a better horse now. I am not sure Altior is.

Agreed CAS, he looks a knocking price as it stands. Be difficult to see him finishing out of the places.

Nico gave altior a terrible ride in 2019

Hes a stalk and pounce horse and nico had him in front way too soon

Disagree completely. He’s got enough stamina to have him hit the front and hold others off. To call him a ‘stalk and pounce’ would almost categorise him as an all out speedster, which I don’t think he’s been for a number of years now.

Nothing wrong with the ride to my eye, I think people just seem to expect a lot more visually from Altior when he’s not that flashy a specimen nowadays.

Totally with you Cork. Although I’ve bet a Mullins backup backup, I’m seriously considering Politologue. I can’t for the life of me see why he’s 9’s. One of the standout Antepost prices for me right now.

HDLG, all Shiskin needs is time, I’m sure he will get there, but there’s 0 chance he comes here whatsoever was my initial point, he will more than likely be up there at 170 at some point in open company. nothing more he could have done as of now.

I agree regarding politologue thought he was big at 20s as I said in here previously, he is still too big at 9s, he should be half that just from the place perspective, he’s a certainty for one and he’s certainly the most likely to turn up.

Could be a real interesting couple of weeks coming up in regards this race…with Henry De Bromhead set to take on the big two in the market….my fancy for this race Put The Kettle on coming over to Kempton to lock horns with Altior while Notebook set to take on Chacun Pour Soi in Ireland…a couple of cracking Christmas treats there!

Agree on Politologue too…am on PTKO a few times at nice prices but without question the bet in the current market is the reigning champ…could be a bit clearer in a week or two though!

Politologue seems so uncomplicated and consistent compared to the other contenders; perhaps less overtly brilliant, but always well prepared and placed by Nicholls

Given a choice between altior at 7s and Politologue at 9s id much rather be on altior personally

Politologue – “two-time champion chaser”. Really?

Altior – made very hard work of it two years ago and can’t have got any better in the interim.

Put The Kettle On – likeable horse but has she even run to 155?

For the sake of the race, you’d like to see Chacun Pour Soi a. get there and b. produce something 170+.

Otherwise there could be shades of second-rater Newmill skipping away with a great champion wheezing round for fifth in the backwash.

Happy with that today. CPS 1st Notebook respectable 2nd. And PTKO now hopefully will go Mares Chase.

Its harsh but PTKO just doesn’t have the pace

Notebook was the best 2 mile novice chaser last year but he clearly didn’t run his race in the arkle

I doubt anyone is going to back CPS at 2/1 or shorter antepost. I would want at least that price about him just turning up, given his profile.
