Cornelius Lysaght has just tweeted that he’s heard it is ’highly likely Camelot won’t run before attempting Triple Crown in St Leger. Got to say if that is true it is good that they are aiming for St Leger but disappointing that he won’t run before then.June 4, 2012 at 18:56 #406888I assume that given the strength in depth at Ballydoyle, there’s little point in him going for the Irish Derby or King George so that’s the Leger.
Indeed, there’s an almost French feel to this – a summer break and then a strong autumn campaign so the Arc where he will presumably join ST NICHOLAS ABBEY.
Then what? The Champion Stakes?
June 4, 2012 at 18:57 #406890If that’s true and he’s fit and well… smacks of being scared of defeat.
Value Is EverythingJune 4, 2012 at 18:59 #406891Surely that would be a long lay off for him? You could be forgiven for thinking that race fitness will be key to a Leger success.

Well they did run him in the 2000gns and the Derby which is hardly running scared.June 4, 2012 at 19:28 #406895"…smacks of being scared of defeat."
Well they did run him in the 2000gns and the Derby which is hardly running scared. They’re running scared of getting a
Guineas and Derby winner
beaten Insomnic. There’s obviously not anything to be scared of if a horse hasn’t won anything. The St Leger is there for the taking, especially if he’s not taken on by any top class staying stable mates (Ballydoyle has a considerable amount of the Montjeu/Galileo cross with Darshaan/Other Mill Reef decensents that tend to excel at 1m4f+ as three year olds). Why not go for the Irish Derby and King George? Well, suppose they’ve got Astrology and Imperial Commander for The Curragh and St Nick for the King George. But if that’s the case why not go for some 1m2f glory instead of keeping Camelot in his box?
Value Is EverythingJune 4, 2012 at 19:38 #406897Surely this cannot be true , it would be the biggest running scared job of all time
Bring on the match please . August York ….10 furlongs ….Frankel …lets see a proper race
unless of course you figure he would get lapped …then its wait and protect the investment
Shucks

June 4, 2012 at 19:39 #406898Yes of course you’re right Ginge, I knew exactly what you meant, just trying to pass some time at the PC in order to avoid having to listen to the jubilee concert that my wife’s listening to.
If the stable’s got the ammo for Irish Derby / King George without Camelot then it makes sense to use the others and, if Camelot’s main target is the Leger, wait for that. Don’t see that dropping him back to 10f (against older horses too) is ideal prep. for 14f+ Leger. If Camelot were the only Middle distance GP1 class in the yard then I reckon he would run in one of the GP1 12f races prior to Leger. Don’t think Ballydoyle should be criticised for waiting ’til Leger if that is the horse’s main objective.
June 4, 2012 at 19:49 #406899I understand Derrick Smith sees winning the Triple Crown as the only thing left to achieve as an owner. That being the case, you can hardly blame him for lining up his horse for that one, all important, race.

So Derrick Smith has gone from being non-commital about the St Leger after the Derby on Saturday… To "only thing left to achieve". It’s spin. Excuses.
Value Is EverythingJune 4, 2012 at 21:03 #406906It depends whether it is true.
If he does not run until the Leger then he would have to stay in training as a 4yo unless he took in the Arc and Champion and/or Breeders Cup. The Irish Derby would be a pointless exercise and Coolmore have stallion prospects that need to win it more than he does. Since Galileo was rather bottomed by winning the King George, Aidan has not really tried many 3yo in that race. Unless he wants to drop down to 10f, then there are not many options before the Leger.
June 4, 2012 at 21:17 #406908He will collect the guts of a third of a million pounds for what should be little more than an exercise gallop which should put him spot on for The Arc.
June 4, 2012 at 21:22 #406909Good lord, typical TRF stuff

If the owner wants to go for it, why should he not be able to do it his way, to achieve history?
Doesn’t matter what he does, on here it will be called the weakest guineas, the least inspiring derby and the most unworthy triple crown winner since dobbin the donkey.
If anyone on here actually owned a horse and the rest of the forum tore them apart for their schedules, you may get a bit peeved, unjustifiably of course.
It hasn’t been seen for how long and it won’t be seen again for how long?
Enjoy it if it happens, racing needs success stories.
June 4, 2012 at 22:12 #406914It would be funny if Camelot was laid off until the St Leger … but then got beat by a dark horse in the race
June 4, 2012 at 22:40 #406916Isn’t this what The Leger week needs to boost it’s flagging status plus a good close jockeys championship to get the public fired up.

Certainly will "enjoy if it happens" SBerry. Will be cheering him on, whether or not I back against him. Just a shame we don’t get the opportunity of seeing a Guineas, Derby, Irish Derby and King George winner going for the St Leger. Suspect he could’ve won a couple more races on the way. Although he would’ve probably needed to improve to win a King George, suspect he is capable. Coolmore seemingly don’t want to take that chance, unlike Sir Henry with Oh So Sharp.
Still, you are right, we should be grateful for the chance to see another Triple Crown.
Value Is EverythingJune 4, 2012 at 23:50 #406920Refresh my memory.Did Oh So Sharp win the Triple Crown? If so since then Sir Henry has badly leaked his courage.
