Quote from the Sydney Morning Herald: ‘Brian Ellison who is preparing Moyenne Corniche and Saptapadi for the Melbourne Cup, wanted to watch the Black Caviar phenomenon for himself yesterday, and he wasn’t disappointed’. "We have heard all about her back home, dont worry about that," Ellison said."She is incredible"."Nothing will beat her,we certainly havn’t got anything back home that could go with her her"
October 10, 2011 at 10:49 #373717I’ve been following her races on U-tube and there simply isn’t a chink to be found. She just goes woosh!!! race over.
This is what you call a real Champion and the word great glides off the tongue very easily.
There’s nothing outstanding at sprint distances in Europe and even if a late developing 2 year old improves dramatically next season it would have to be by a phenomenal margin to be any sort of danger to her.
Such a pity Frankel will be otherwise occupied as a match would be the biggest thing since War Admiral V Sea Buscuit
Of course at 6 furlong Frankel would win
October 10, 2011 at 14:08 #373763No doubting her greatness but hyperbole can be a wonderful thing in racing. All this stuff about Phar Lap and record wins is just boloney. Phar Lap had a winning streak of 14 which BC has done and is unbeaten but the Australasian record for consecutive wins on major racetracks is 19 shared by Gloaming and Desert Gold back in the 1920’s. Nothing simply in Australia can challenge her. But as a wise scribe once told me, they all get beat eventually.
October 10, 2011 at 22:22 #373982Yes most do get beaten.though she may be an exception to the rule.Yes it is just trying to sell papers, they have had her breaking some horses record for about her last 6 starts it means nothing to compare to Phar Lap but that is newspapers for you.We will have to differ HGman about Black Caviar v Frankel over 6f,i think the mare wins, i would prefer to see her take him on at 7f or a mile.Moody is confidant she will be better over those trips,as of now he has said you could probably settle her last in a field over 5f or 6f. That is one of her big weapons she settles beautifully. But i suppose they will never meet so that is a shame.
October 11, 2011 at 05:22 #374009Tell you what Slewman your scribe should read more. Over 50 top class horses were unbeaten in their careers. They won between 6 times up to 54 the record held by Kinscem.
Ribot 16 was probably the best known among and most would agree the best horse.
No doubt there have been better that were beaten at some stage of their careers through injury, greed ro giving away enough weight to stop a tank.
A lot has to be put down to luck and being around at the right time.
If Secretariat, John Henry, Ribot, Nijinsky, Frankel, Dancing Brave and Sea Bird II had all been born in the same year only one would emerge as the Champion and the rest would thought to be ordinary.
Black Caviar has got to be something really special but like Zenyatta before her we have no idea how she would fair against Europe’s top horses until she actually goes there and beats something like Dream Ahead

As far as sprinters go Black Caviar wouldn’t have to go to Europe to test herself,as most of the best sprinters are from here or are bred here and race in Asia, Australia is the benchmark with sprinters.
October 11, 2011 at 07:03 #374017It would appear so at the moment but only because the rest of the world seems more interested in middle distance racing. Mind you if BC doesn’t get on her bike and go prove it outside of Oz she’ll be forgotten outside of Oz in a flash when she’s gone
2 of our top sprinters only run in sprints because they failed at a mile or we have even less to talk about. If it were the other wy round and Frankel was kept to sprinting your horse wouldn’t know what hit her.
While you guys are having your Melbourbne Cup the top horses in the world are heading to the worlds number 1 meeting the Breeders.
I don’t think being leaders of sprint racing come up very high in the pecking list these days. We have very few Group 1’s although hopefully the British Championship at Ascot this weekend will qualify for Grade 1 status next season.

Tell you what if he was truly confident she’d be better over trips why waste his time running her in a sprint race at Ascot?
With the amount of money involved in breeding a confident man would be head hunting Frankel and taking him on at a mile. Especially if he was still unbeaten. Every breeder in the world would be fighting to cover her at 3 times what she’s worth just now if she beat him..
She would without doubt bypass Sea Bird II as the highest rated horse ever to grace the European turf if not the world.

Being a mare her stud value wont improve much no matter what she does now, she is already one of the most valuable mares on the planet.Unlike a stallion the income isnt there at stud and the owners are winning big prizemoney here. The only race her trainer has mentioned at Ascot is the Queen Anne, the only sprint at Ascot she will go around in at Ascot in Perth next month worth $500 000.Though Moody has said she wont go to England if she is beaten here.
