How good was that!! Come on Rocket Man, JJ The Jet Plane,it will be no disgrace to run 2nd to the FREAK.

Probably as good a form line as any,as Alverta was 1 length 3rd in last years july cup and today she was 7 and three quarter lengths 4th behind Black Caviar.

The only horse that we can use as a formline is the Group winning mare Ortensia, who is a very smart galloper. She ran a fine 5th in the HK Sprint last year at her 2nd run in & was beaten only 1.5 lengths. At her 1st run that term she ran well, 3rd behind Black Caviar over 1200m in the Patinack albeit beaten around 5-6 lengths.

I looked at that formline quite closely prior to the HK Sprint.
As you said, she was first-up for that run, and back then this article was written. The quotes suggest that those lengths should not be taken literally. Although there is little denying that Black Caviar is the best sprinter in the world.

    http://www.thoroughbrednews.com.au/spri … x?id=50320

"She’s eaten well over the past few days and I think her weight is spot on now after losing 23 kg on the way over. She was 497 kg this morning and her ideal weight range is around that mark, around 500 kilos. She was 534 kilos when she returned to racing in the Patinack at Flemington and took plenty of benefit from that run,” Noonan said.

So Ortensia was perhaps an astronomical 20-30kg heavier when matching up against Black Caviar. Normal fluctuations of weight in fit horses are usually in the 5-10 kg range. In other articles, Noonan also suggested that Ortensia shows her best form around a bend with the speed on (as in HK sprinting). Then you can throw in the Good to Slow track at Flemington.

Nice to see Hay List turn up at his best. I wouldn’t be stunned if Hay List had a slight margin on JJ and Rocket Man. The two are very good sprinters but don’t have the freakish acceleration of the old Sacred Kingdom, or the freakishness in general of Black Caviar.

I think Aussie sprinters walk all over European ones in general, but I wouldn’t use a first-up 8 year old as a great form line.

Interesting trainer Peter Moody said "Maybe she could stretch out to a mile (1600m) or a mile and a quarter (2000m)". Although he intimated that they probably wouldn’t pursue that. And Bart Cummings acknowledged that she deserves the attention but only called her "the best in Australia".

I still think that maybe Alverta went about as well as she can,and yes if you look at Hay List he was flying at the 300mt,and she just ran away from him.I thought at the time that Luke Nolen had misjudged it a bit and he said that later, just as well it was her chasing him.I wasnt too sure before but i think she will get a mile because she settled so well today.Yes i picked up on Bart saying that, though Bart always understates it a bit, took him a long while to say So You Think was probably his best horse.I think The BTC Cup and the 10 000 will be easier races then the TJ Smith,I would be heading off to the UK with Hay List rather then chasing her home again,i think he would take a power of beating there.

Rated 130 by Racing Post Ratings for on Saturday’s win.

To run down Hay List from the position Black Caviar was in was just as impressive as any of her other wins. In straight course races she’s been able to dictate and dominate from a long way out.

Perhaps Moody’s words have been taken a little too seriously in this article. I thought he was just emphasising how well she relaxes for a sprinter, and thinking more about the Doomben 10000, than plotting for anything else like a mile race or a Cox Plate!

Going around in a minute at Brisbane’s Doomben Racecourse.

    Up against Hay List again.

I’ve been privileged to see her in the flesh three times, can’t wait to see her again!!

For the record, incredible, incredible scenes. Doomben is sold out.

    And another mighty win.

Black Caviar beat Hay List by about 2L – with 2.8L back to third.

Very impressive again, and Hay List is a proper G1 horse.

What a shame she won’t be here for the King’s Stand.

If you’re having problems deciphering that lot from Fely, I’ll report what I’ve heard from Melbourne today.

A bonus is being offered to Rocket Man to come and win the Patinack Farm Gr1, a 1200m sprint at Flemington during Melbourne Cup week.

The problem is this has greatly upset the connections of Black Caviar and IMO rightly so. Why should her opponents get extra appearance money if they beat her? The mare is the one bringing in the crowds. She should be paid the appearance fee.

As a result connections are considering bypassing the majority of the Melbourne sprints during the Spring and are looking at going to Japan for their big race instead.

    What a farce!

Fely, come on, it’s all there in the link that you have posted, it’s ASCOT in Perth, Western Australia. I’d give a good price about her turning up three in the heat after a Melbourne campaign. No hope.

The second horse Karuta Queen had won $1.6 million from 9 starts before today. That was just effortless,Sepoy is the only horse likely to get anywhere near her before she steps up in distance.Despite reports that Rocket Man was unlucky in Japan he had an uninterrupted run for over the last furlong and raced a bit flat,he is not in the same class as Black Caviar.

Very goog Jolly but a little less mayo mate. Our English friends don’t like it when a horse is over hyped. Let’s be fair, yes, Kurate Queen had won $1.6m but most of that was won in a restricted 2yo race. She ia smart but she ran up to her best today. The rest of the field was very average. Not saying that they aren’t horses of ability but no G1 winners there, bearely any group winners. She scares away the good horses. Do you think that the shiek will allow Sepoy to race against her??? I yhink not.

Black Caviar won as she liked, as she ought to have. She is clearly the best sprinter in the world, may even be the best horse though we will never know as her & Frankel & Danedream will never meet in a race.

Thos that say that Rocket Man was unlucky in Japan must have been wtaching a different race from the one I saw. In the race I saw he was under pressure before the corner and whilst he did meet with some mild interference, he was never travelling like a winner, just more hype by the media.

Unfortunately there are a lot of haters out there and also those that create hype. Porr So You Think has suffered much "hate" from over hype. He is a champion race horse here in Oz and, on his current form, probably the best 2000m turf horse in the world but he isn’t lengths & lengths above horses in Europe where that middle range is much stronger than the pitiful level at home. I, for one am glad that he has acquitted himself very well, his worst performance a fast finishing 4th in the fastest run ARC.

Apologies for running off direction, back to the mare…. She has much improvement and we are all very, very lucky to see her race, a once in a lifetime sprinter that’s for sure…

No over hyping Black Caviar mate it’s just fact, and some of our ‘English Friends’ are already calling Frankel the best in the world and rated 142, some of them would know quite a bit about hype as well. Karuta Queen has won $1.6 million mate so no mayo there either, and she would probably lead most Kings Stand for a long way as she goes that quickly. So You Think mainly suffered from the haters not so much because of the hype, more so he wasn’t from the UK, or more direct he was from Australia. 12f is no problem to him either,in Australia mate the genuine group horses will switch from 10f to 12f without a mention, they rarely say here he is a 10f or 12f horse the trainer trains the horse to peak for which ever trip,it is no big deal.I would like the main Arc contenders to meet again, the result could be different, however at this stage Danedream has the wood on SYT at any distance.

Wasn’t hard to predict that this thread would be very quiet
