High Definition is such an interesting runner in that contest.

High Definition is probably not going to be 100% primed for this one if his target is Saratoga. He may be classy enough to get a piece of the purse anyway but Siskany looks tough to beat here.

His hurdling stint is what makes his appearance in this fascinating to me.

Applebys ridiculous strike rate in North America continues

2 impressive winners at haydock now siskany winning

The stable will be hoping the poor spell they’ve been having is beginning to turn

National Treasure might get an easy lead, but I don’t think it was much of a Preakness he won (Mage below par off a slow pace?) and this is three furlongs further.

Forte is the one to beat on overall form, but much of that is 2yo form (now irrelevant?) he’s said to have stumbled badly at the end of recent public work plus, though he stays 1m1f well, he’s another tackling an extra 660yds for the first time.

Angel Of Empire stayed on really well for third in the Kentucky Derby and Tapit Trice was never closer than at the finish there either.

They both shape like the extra quarter mile will suit.

Unless National Treasure is gifted a lead and allowed to turn it into a sprint, one or both of those should pick him off in the closing stages.

Cody’s Wish is really a special horse. If you don’t like that you don’t like racing.

Tremendous performance under top weight in the Metropolitan Handicap.

Grade 1 HANDICAPS – this is what makes USA racing great: “A little more than an ‘ot dog, know what I mean?”

Eh handicaps ain’t what they used to be at least on the flat. Most have been turned into straight weight-for-age. I believe the Met and the Carter Handicap in NY along with the Santa Anita Handicap in CA are the last of the dirt G1s with handicap conditions, and then the tracks are reluctant to make horses carry anything above 126lbs or make the spread beyond 10lbs. Compare to the “golden age” of racing when imposts of 130+ or even 140+ were standard for the best of the best.

At least NYRA still makes its jump G1s proper handicaps, even if it means some of the top horses avoid them entirely.

It’s all relative, Miss W – in the UK we don’t have Group 1 Handicaps on the Flat at all.

The ones I’m interested in are Arcangelo and Hit Show, but only if Forte and Tapit Trice would struggle at the trip.

The step up to 1m4f is tough to predict in US racing, especially when racing on dirt.

    Good luck all!

Once again, a lightly-raced, progressive colt wins the Belmont – good call, ERL.

Hooray for Arcangelo, his jockey timed the ride exactly right but Arcangelo certainly showed his heart (and his blood, Rags to Riches and Jazil are under his damside) staying off challengers in that long Belmont stretch. Nice win for Jena, hopefully first of many classic wins for her.

Thanks, Ian. It was interesting to watch, but I’d rather have a 1m4f G1 run at Ascot, Longchamp or Empsom. They way they ride in the US is completely different than to what we’re used in Europe.

A good race and the winner won well. Forte ran a strange sort of race. Angel of Empire was well positioned but one paced.

A pity SSR’s coverage was rubbish, just like it was for the Kentucky Derby.

I just watched whatever pictures Betfair Exchange were broadcasting.

Cracking contest – Forte and Tapit Trice stayed on as if they needed FURTHER, pretty remarkable for a 1m4f USA Grade 1 on dirt and given the pedigrees.

It was a fantastic card generally at Belmont Park last night and I swerved both the UK racing and the football to give it my undivided attention.

Swerving the UK racing yesterday was not a bad idea. I suppose it is that awkward time between Epsom and Royal Ascot but it is difficult to recall a more uninspiring Saturday.
