They may have had a few successes here and there but the last couple of years have been a nightmare for an operation of Ballydoyle’s size and scale.
I don’t believe there has been a virus this year or last. I have to admit I’m wondering whether Aidan does have too many horses to handle and whether he is bogged down by it all.
They never seem to truely know who wants what distance, who their best Derby hope is, who their best two year old is etc etc. It all seems a bit of a mess there. They are sent horses to die for breeding-wise but at the moment they’re not setting the racing world alight by any means especially when you consider the success Henry Cecil (for example) is having (Twice Over, Midday, Frankel) with a fraction of the number of quality bred horses that O’Brien has.
Maybe O’Brien does need help, maybe they need to bring in another trainer or send more horses to others and reduce the number of horses under the guidance of one man?
October 16, 2010 at 02:23 #322670Hold everything; they had the same amount of horses two years ago when they swept up everything at Ascot.Last year take Sea the Stars away and they again swept up the Group One races. But this year given the 2yo talent which started the year as 3yos something went seriously wrong. The horses failed to deliver. Why? Many were group horses who ended up running all over the place.Like from second in the Derby to a handicap at Ascot! Now that is not right.

I’ll stick to the reasoning I gave at the start of the year. Coolmore don’t have Sadler’s and Danehill anymore so less than glamorous seasons are sure to follow. They need to get more active at the sales and continue to buy the likes of SSB to boost their home production.
October 16, 2010 at 12:27 #322731Montjeu and Galileo have had more Derby winners than Sadler’s Wells and Danehill ever got. That in less than ten years. How explain that factor? Galileo has had the leading 2yo three of the last four years.Perhaps it is the breeding for distance rather than for speed that is the problem. Their best speed horses seem to come from Australia. There is more Danehill blood there. But the two sires I mentioned continue to get Derby winners.
PS I spoke to some Ballydoyle people at the BC last year and they felt that JanVermeer could win the Derby not St.N.Abbey.October 17, 2010 at 10:47 #322904"We were scared for a few moments before the race in the paddock," said Bernie Ryan, the agent for co-owner Khalifa Bin Hamad Al Attyah. "On a day like today you want everything to go perfect and smoothly and he didn’t get into the (post) parade. But it was all OK.”
Following the win of Joshua Tree in the Canadian International.
Another new owner to appear on the Ballydoyle roster.KBHAAOctober 17, 2010 at 11:26 #322911

October 17, 2010 at 12:00 #322922Thought Michael Tabor bought US Ranger outright from someone. Didn’t do much, did he?
October 17, 2010 at 12:13 #322926Fist what is that supposed to mean?

October 24, 2010 at 14:03 #16571I realise that Coolmore have horses with Wachman and Stoute as well as Ballydoyle however the first winner today at Longchamps was trained by Fabre and owned by the Coolmore team. Pour Moi is a Montjeu two year old.Is a new trend?
October 24, 2010 at 19:30 #324344Noseda is another
October 24, 2010 at 20:13 #324348Tommy Stack and Charles O’Brien as well.
October 24, 2010 at 20:18 #324349Noseda seems to get a lot in the Tabor colours, and always seem to have Ryan Moore on board.

I think that you will find that the B Team trainers like Noseeda get a lot of the buy backs from the sales. These horses are all by Coolmore sires and are bought off the mare owners at the sales thus inflating the stallions figs.
October 25, 2010 at 16:50 #16583Dubai Prince winner of the Killavullan Stakes at Leopardstown stays with Dermot for his three year old career. This seems to be an exception to the rule. He races in the same colors as did Casamento.I wonder what is the arrangement that Godolfin takes horses away from some trainers but not from others.Any answers out there?

October 25, 2010 at 17:10 #324509IC is right. I saw him say it too.
