I WOuldnt write off brain power just yet, am I right in thinking the gorund at Sandown when he unseated was much softer than the advertised gd/sft implies? If so then the horse could be a different animal on better ground, tempted to play him eeach way
March 4, 2018 at 02:03 #1344713The gamble continues on Petit Mouchoir as he’s 5/2 in most places now.
As short as 2/1!
Definitely got value on the aforementioned 7/1 in this thread.
I’m hopeful he will overturn the Footpad form from the Dublin festival but I’m worried more that Saint Calvados will outjump my horse throughout and the relentless gallop from them both out front will unsettle Petit.
March 4, 2018 at 02:12 #1344715As a side note, I said a couple of months ago on this thread that I made it a two horse race (the current front two in the market) and that it’s an awful renewal.
I have to hold my hands up here and say I got that wrong. It looks an excellent renewal with Saint Calvados in there too. The likely pace angle from those three could make Sceau Royale run a decent race too. Brain power is the most overrated horse in training so we can ignore him here.
It’s not a poor renewal at all. Quite the opposite.
March 4, 2018 at 02:13 #1344716I had a bet on petit mouchoir at 7/1 but cashed it out when he went out to 12/1 after footpad hacked up in some race hahaha
March 4, 2018 at 20:50 #1344791I think it’s all ground dependent . Footpad is among a select bunch I have backed NRNB , but he is by no means a good thing.
He has the beating of Petite Mouchir on their previous run , and on the evidence available , jumping ability .
But as we know , the Cheltenham hill is the greatest leveller of all , and bearing in mind that Petite Mouchir was a bit ring rusty last time out , and did out stay Footpad in last year’s Champion Hurdle , then it’s a tough one to call at this stage . It certainly looks like being a very intriguing contest indeed .
Hopefully the ground doesn’t get too soft , inhibiting Footpad’s chances , while enhancing Petite Mouchir’s .
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
March 4, 2018 at 22:29 #1344796Another open contest. I’ve gone for Saint Calvados because I think everything could, potentially, fall into place for him. Jumps like a mother, too, which is always helpful.
Plus – and completely irrelevantly – , I love his TOTALLY old school name. Saint Calvados. Sounds like a Classic winner from the Victorian era. Love it.

So don't run, just like the others always do
March 5, 2018 at 09:42 #1344826Cannot wait for this one.
The clip will be unreal, and primarily for that reason I’m ruling out the questionable jumper of the 4: PM.
SC has been brilliant but again lots of questions – ground, course etc
Footpad is the best novice jumper I’ve seen in years but there’s definitely a question mark as to finding off the bridle coming up the hill
Sceau Royal has been excellent and I loved how he battled home to pass Shantou rock last time.
This could be a tactical angle but SC at the price and likely to be coming late at the front runners looks the bet to me.
March 5, 2018 at 11:17 #1344832Sceau royal out
March 5, 2018 at 12:18 #1344837And with the weather forecast, just keep shovelling more on Saint Calvados!
March 5, 2018 at 12:40 #1344839Would you not be worried about his experience? He’s basically going up against 2 horses that are having their 3rd run at a festival. He is only 5 and a 5 year old hasn’t won since the 5 year old weight allowance was scrapped
March 5, 2018 at 12:49 #1344841on at 12/1 jjm but id consider backing him at the price just now if i hadnt
And not really vautour, hes by far a better jumper than petit mouchoir, hes had what, 7 starts in his lifetime, should be experienced enough.
The experience at previous cheltenham festivals is obviously a plus to the other two, but PM is likely to get jumped into an error by SC, footpad the obvious danger to SC, but what will he find up the hill again?
March 5, 2018 at 12:53 #1344842I spoke to Harry at the weights launch last Wednesday. Said no concerns about his experience and the track, only worry was the ground. Wouldn’t risk him on good, so the more rain the better!
March 5, 2018 at 16:12 #1344868Jacob goes on Footpad?
March 5, 2018 at 22:36 #1344899I don’t know who will ride footpad now but it would be strange that a retained rider would not ride a horse for his retained owner. However Jacobs record on footpad wouldn’t be great. I know they were all in competitive races but it would appear that Ruby is able to get a bit more out of footpad. Then of course we have to remember that Ruby has not ridden footpad over fences yet. Really if I were the owner I would want Paul Townend to ride footpad. I know that is highly unlikely to happen but it would be what I would do
March 5, 2018 at 23:43 #1344902Ruby has first choice over the Munir horses in the Mullins yard
March 10, 2018 at 10:34 #1345532The ground certainly looks to be coming right for Saint Calvados.
I backed him NRMB and I like the position right now. Also had my money back from Sceau Royal.
I also took 10/1 Petit Mouchoir all-in-run-or-not after his early season win. Again, can’t hate the value situation I’ve got but I wouldn’t bet him at 3/1 now. I really worry about his jumping here.
Still can’t have Brain Power at all going this way around and don’t like NHH or any of the others.
Let’s get Footpad beat, boys!
March 10, 2018 at 15:53 #1345589Yeah quite happy with the ground scenario for SC, 12/1 e/w & 10/1 but ill happily take 4/1 for him again, i can see a drift on PM personally if it stays soft (i know he has form on it)
Looks a great race, hasnt cut up bar SR, hopefully they all make it.
