Petit mouchoir out until the new year
November 2, 2017 at 17:39 #1324573Just took the 25s on River Wylde in case he hacks up tomorrow. NJH seemed very keen on him last year. He’s got the engine so if the has the jump then a decent contender.
November 3, 2017 at 19:01 #1324772That was a shrewd move. He’s into a general 16/1 now. I’m not sure how much he had in hand of the runner-up who wasn’t exactly a top-class sort but looking at who’s likely to end up in the Arkle I can see it being a poor renewal and maybe it won’t take a big effort to come out on top come March.
November 7, 2017 at 15:09 #1325627Tizzards interview regarding finians oscar was interesting, seemed to highlight that there is every chance he will go for the more prestigious race and that there is every chance he will come here instead of the jlt
I was sure he would go jlt but i suppose it makes sense as this dosent look the greatest renewal at this stage and he would likely end up pretty short in the betting..
November 7, 2017 at 15:16 #1325628Indeed. As a cold-hearted punter, you almost hope he does go for this race. If he manages to win a few trials on bad ground over the winter, he’ll be bottled-up to a woeful price and make the market for something else on the day.
November 8, 2017 at 15:16 #1325786Footpad debuts over fences this weekend and it looks like he will be up against Brelade on Sunday at Navan. Petit Mouchoir backers will know a bit more about what threat, if any, Footpad will present. PM beat Brelade by 7 last time out. I get the feeling that Footpad may be Mullin’s number 1 Arkle horse, unless they’ve something else up their sleeves? Melon and Cilaos Emery both staying over Hurdles tells you they must think a lot of Footpad, or they have someone else..
November 8, 2017 at 16:14 #1325795I like footpad but im not sure i could even consider him for this, always thought he would be better over a trip,
I think chacun pour soi is more likely to be aimed at this, they think highly of him, hes yet to do anything of intrest though but the way ricci especially talks about him youd think he will be soemthing decent
November 12, 2017 at 15:26 #1326489Very taking debut there from Footpad. Attacked his fences really well and pulled clear of Brelade effortlessly. On a line through Elliot’s horse, Footpad will be well able to mix it with Petit Mouchoir who currently sets the standard for the division.
Mullins has confirmed the Arkle is his target, but with a couple of other horses still under wraps, I’ve taken 14/1 to win any race.
November 12, 2017 at 18:02 #1326518Yeah, backed Footpad after that performance. Making all could be the answer for him here.
November 12, 2017 at 21:33 #1326549Footpad most impressive. We’re in for a scintillating chasing season and might just be on the cusp of a Golden Age.
November 12, 2017 at 21:47 #1326551He was excellent today, genuinely didnt think he would have the speed for 2m, but that convinced me alright! And your right, could be quite a few real top class horses about just now
November 13, 2017 at 09:47 #1326581Yep; beat Brelade by 11 so can definitely hang with Petit Mouchoir judging by that.
November 13, 2017 at 19:49 #1326620I’ve been trying to find something to take on Petit Mouchoir and Finians Oscar with for a while and toyed with the idea of backing River Wylde at 20’s but part of me thinks he could be more ‘Josses Hill’ than ‘Sprinter Sacre’. My search for an alternative to the top two came to an end yesterday though, Footpad blew me away and I was happy to part with some hard earned in the aftermath of the race. While he was a couple of lengths inferior to Petit Mouchoir over hurdles, it looks like the switch to fences has brought about improvement and he’s still only a 5yo. No surprise to see the money continue to come for him today.
November 19, 2017 at 15:32 #1327647With Footpad disappointing to some extent today and North Hill Harvey seriously burnishing his reputation 16/1 is about twice the price he should be imo and I’ve backed him again.
North Hill Harvey has a few key advantages here:
He’s a fine jumper on the whole, especially at speed and should continue getting slicker
The trainer is still learning about him and might well be able to improve him a fair bit more
And, not least, he loves Cheltenham being 3 from 5 there with excuses the other twice.
He acts on any ground too by the look of things.
November 19, 2017 at 16:11 #1327669Footpad?
November 19, 2017 at 16:16 #1327670Jeez, not Footpad, Tombstone…God knows why but I always get those two mixed up! Apologies Footpad lovers (and I am one, although I still think North Hill Harvey is well overpriced).
November 19, 2017 at 16:40 #1327679Quickly started scrolling through results thinking how the hell did i miss him running today LOL
