If PM can avoid those same bad mistakes he made at Leopardstown, I think with the ground getting softer (should suit as he has quite a high knee action) it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he did turn the tables on Footpad, although having a second run relatively quickly after almost a 4 month layoff is a bit of a worry.
March 11, 2018 at 11:04 #13456795 runners. Ante-post e/w snides in clover.
March 11, 2018 at 11:59 #1345696I don’t know who will ride footpad now but it would be strange that a retained rider would not ride a horse for his retained owner. However Jacobs record on footpad wouldn’t be great. I know they were all in competitive races but it would appear that Ruby is able to get a bit more out of footpad. Then of course we have to remember that Ruby has not ridden footpad over fences yet. Really if I were the owner I would want Paul Townend to ride footpad. I know that is highly unlikely to happen but it would be what I would do
He is retained rider in GB, not Ireland….
Ruby around Cheltenham is another level not sure i’d ever want Townend…however, i do agree it will be interesting to see how Ruby gets on with his novice picks that he has never ridden before….could be a few errors.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!March 12, 2018 at 11:58 #1345866Brain Power has as much chance of winning this as Cocktails At Dawn did the National! Shrewd bit of placing by NTD with Robinshill to pick up prize money as only 3 may finish. Petit Mouchoir hasn’t had the chance to gain enough chasing experience (and indeed show whether or not he will improve for chasing) and, like Brain Power, his jumping will be under severe pressure from the start. Because Footpad and Saint Calvados have been faultless. Of course, for the first time one of them could make a bad error at this tough jumping track and, having no previous experience of doing so, such a mistake could scupper them. If not, SC will lead at a fast pace from Footpad and the latter might pick the former off late. Or (less likely I suppose) SC could be something else.
The best betting strategy, therefore, is a win bet on Saint Calvados @ 3/1 BOG with money back if Footpad wins.
March 12, 2018 at 15:54 #1345914What a pathetic turnout with only 5 runners, so much for the idea of boosting prize money if this is what you get from it.
March 12, 2018 at 17:41 #1345942Goldenmiller – what firm is offering money back if the fav wins?
I’m assuming that’s the offer you’re refering to with the saint calvados bet?
March 12, 2018 at 18:54 #1345952Money back as a free bet if SP fav wins all first day races with P. Power up to a max £10 win only, Ben, handy for me as I’m a £10 level stakes merchant.
March 12, 2018 at 20:28 #1345990Backed Petit Mouchoir for this almost half a year ago at 8/1. Despite a much lower price now I’m not that convinced of his chances. I think Footpad had a quite a bit extra in hand when beating Petit Mouchoir in February. Added Footpad in a double with Buveur d’Air at 4/1 this month.
March 12, 2018 at 22:36 #1346040I’m not falling for the medias attempt to convince us that this is a vintage Arkle. It’s competitive enough, but vintage? Never. 2012 was a vintage Arkle. This is no 2012.
That’s my soapbox for the week
March 13, 2018 at 13:55 #1346178So, the winner of this year’s Arkle will only have to beat four horses. How oddly appropriate.

So don't run, just like the others always do
March 13, 2018 at 14:11 #1346186Ruby’s first public ride over fences since November. I’m a bit cautious. Good Luck!
March 13, 2018 at 14:12 #1346187ive backed saint calvados, hoping he will relish the ground but dont want it to go off too quick, footpad could be a different class though
March 13, 2018 at 14:16 #1346188Well done, Doctor Walsh!
March 13, 2018 at 14:17 #1346189Cool as a cucumber that man.
March 13, 2018 at 14:19 #1346190Non-race.
Russell and Coleman – idiots.
Got a bit back in-running.Value Is EverythingMarch 13, 2018 at 14:21 #1346191Brain Power got closer than I thought but perhaps flattered by St C and PM cutting each other’s throats. Didn’t jump overly well.
March 13, 2018 at 14:22 #1346192Best horse won hands down. Looked very good.
