Backed 3 horses today in £100 singles and also done a £40 each treble equally divided all with Ladbrokes. The 3 horses are…
3.40 Yarmouth – Megaleka @ 4/1
Consistency hasn’t always been this ones strong point but she ran a cracker last time out at Redcar to finish 2nd on only her second start for Alan Bailey. She gets an age allowance and one of the top jockeys at the track has been booked for the ride in Frederick Tylicki. The big question mark is whether she can back up her latest run but if she can do so then she could go very close. Another slight worry is the form of the yard but few of their runners have been going close without winning.
4.50 Haydock – Debdebdeb @ 4/1
This horse is up 7lbs for her amended win at Newbury where she was held up but came with a strong run to only just fail to get up. She was awarded the win in the stewards room, which looked fair. She looks sure to be suited by stepping up in trip here and Martin Dwyer takes over from Thomas Brown, which is a positive. She is up in class here but I feel there could be plenty more to come from this horse stepping up in trip.
5.00 Perth – Solway Dandy @ 7/2
This horse’s form has transformed since handicapping finishing 2nd on his last 2 runs. The latest of those efforts came at this track, where he looked as though a step up in trip would suit. Today he gets that and Brian Toomey taking over from a 7lb claimer is more than enough reasoning to get involved with thise horse today. There has been plenty of money around for him this morning and I am hopeful of a good run.

8.55 Epsom – Kelpie Blitz £100 EW @ 11/2 PaddyPower
This could be the first time I have ever backed a Seamus Durack runner but I think this horse has an excellent chance of handling this track and could go close. He looked in need of his first run back when last of 10 at Leicester but he was much better when finishing with a real rattle to grab 2nd at Sandown last time out. George Baker who rode this horse last time out is on Whitby Jet tonight but Micky Fenton who rode him in his 4 races previous to that is back on board. If building on his latest effort then he should go close in this.
July 4, 2013 at 21:26 #4448014.00 Sandown – Sri Putra £100 EW @ 11/1 BetVictor
I have to admit, Sri Putra is a horse I have constantly underestimated but I think he does have an excellent chance of going close in this. This will be the first time in 3 years that he hasn’t contested the Coral Eclipse so he should really find this much easier than racing against the likes of Nathaniel, So You Think and Twice Over. To be fair to him he did get within half a length of Twice Over back in 2010 and certainly wasn’t disgraced when finishing 3rd in behind So You Think in 2011. Last year was a different story as he finished well beaten but the ground went against him. This year he gets his quick ground and he takes a big drop in class from group 1 to listed level. He proved there is still plenty of ability in the locker by getting up late in the day to beat Afsare at York last year in a group 2. His 3 runs since that win have been disappointing but there are valid excuses for each of them.
I think he is a little short of group 1 class so it was no surprise to see him well beaten behind Frankel at York and then again when travelling over to Tokyo and finishing last of 17. He never looked happy at Epsom on his return to action this season, which could have been a combination of the track and the ground. I would be happy to give him one more chance tomorrow with conditions very much in his favour and dropping down to this level for the first time on turf in a long time. His current odds could look rather big come the end of the race if you consider he beat Afsare at York who is as low as 7/2 for this race and won this race last year. Roger Varian is a trainer I really like and he is in brilliant form at the moment with most of his horses running very well. The yard will be bouncing after picking up group 1 success in Ireland recently so hopefully more glory awaits with Sri Putra. Frankie takes the ride and he finally got off the cold list with a winner tonight at Newbury. He should run a good race dropping into this level and I am happy to have a decent bet on him.
The French horse to me looks the big danger after a very good run behind Maxios last time out. He looks very unexposed and there should be much to come from him. The French horses must be allotted maximum respect when travelling over. Van Der Neer would be a frustrating winner as I backed him at Royal Ascot where he finished a good 3rd behind Remote. The other one I will be keeping an eye on is Mendip. I have backed this horse plenty of times over in Dubai and it will be interesting to see whether or not he can transfer his high class form on the artificial surface to turf. Sri Putra will do for me in what looks a very open race.
July 4, 2013 at 22:07 #4448035.05 Sandown – Abundantly £100 EW @ 6/1 Bet365
Bet365 are comfortably top price on this horse which I feel is quite generous. Despite Auld Alliance looking very solid at the top of the market I do feel Abundantly can give that one something to think about. She has ran very well on each of her 2 starts so far this season looking in need of further both at Windsor at Chepstow. She got that on her latest run over CD where she finished a unlucky 4th after finding her passage blocked several times. She finally got into the clear and eventually ran on quite well. She strikes me as a filly that needs plenty of rousting along although once she hits top gear she can finish off her races to good effect. Richard Hughes takes the ride, which can only be seen as a good thing considering the amount of winners he has had recently.
I feel this horse could be well ahead of her current mark after a number of recent close calls without going up too much in the handicap. She is proven over the trip and conditions will suit tomorrow. Hopefully she will get a clear run and go close. I find it hard to see her out of the first 3 but thats not the first time I have thought that about a horse. You have to go back to Sergeant Cecil’s win in 2003 for the last winning favourite of this race which would go against Auld Alliance. That being said I do think she is the most likely winner of this race if you take into account her recent form behind the very promising Riposte but at the prices I would rather go each way on Abundantly.
