Gord any early thoughts on big handicap hurdle at weekend i think
BEAR’S AFFAIR should win won well last time off top weight and can go in again. And i had my first look at handicaps at festival and any thoughts
HIS EXCELLENTCEY To win grand annaul chase at 20/1
Was 2nd behind Shooters Wood but given a top ride by AP and when you think Henderson will have 5 or 6 in race like last year. And a few outsiders too there be a lot of pace in race which will suit this horse. though he does not like to come under pressure only downside on him.
January 9, 2013 at 00:00 #425718If I may interject, folks – to use a favourite phrase of Broadway Danny Rose – I’m keen on Zarkandar for the Champion Hurdle.
Apparently, he wasn’t himself last year, particularly in the CH, and is a different horse now. But his breeding is so fantastic that, coupled with his profile….
Cinders and Ashes has the breeding too, and I believe his trainer is till very sweet on his chances.
But we all have our reasons for plumping for a particular horse, and its not easy to be persuaded otherwise. Not wise, either, most of the time, I expect, because eventually we have to make a judgement, don’t we? Go out on a limb.

Definately the biggest danger to all ‘Grimes’ imo,his form through ‘Raya star’ gives him the beating of
Darlan
but thats only if you interpret form literally,I think mines got more scope than yours so there!
May I suggest you having a little gander at last years Tote Gold Trophy, watch yours all the way through then watch mine,it would have been a 1,2 for sure but in what order? Admittedly ‘Zarkandar’ was giving ‘Darlan’ 5lb that day but like I’ve said many times in the past my fellow will improve past that defeat….And he has, lets hope they both turn up as both will battle to the line.Good Luck!
January 9, 2013 at 17:14 #425766Gord what you think of my early tip in grand annual race at 20/1
And i know you a golf lover have my tips for the week in general sports forum too.
January 9, 2013 at 17:21 #425767Hey Big Spender 16/1 for Warwick 4 places, has to be done. 2/2 on that course. Tizzard’s seem bullish enough about his chances. You keeping the faith mate?
Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
January 9, 2013 at 17:28 #425770I stupidly backed HBS for the Welsh National ante post, his performance at Sandown was pretty abject, but should do better at Warwick as the fences at Sandown can be pretty unforgiving. This Pete the Feat looks another Hunt Ball in the making, though, the best jumper I’ve seen since Hello Bud.

One of the few times I’ve had an extreme difference of opinion on a horse with you Gord. I think Darlan is a terrible price currently and has it all to do to beat the experienced horses. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if AP rode Binocular to be honest!

His Excellency
is a tricky one Darren,he’s only a 5yo and yet has been on the go since Oct 2011,yes he’s mixed it with the big boys over fences recently but the handicapper has noticed. If I was Mr Pipe I’d exploit his much more lenient hurdles mark as it does appear this young fellow is definately on the upgrade, something like the Coral cup would suit but I dont fancy him for a Grand annual myself. I’m looking at the Lanzarote tonight as I’d like to put a winner up in the features section,or at least a runner!!

Nath I’ve rated
Hey Big spender
as a decent Gold cup ‘Dark’ horse since I saw him beat ‘Fine Parchment’ at Warwick a couple of years ago,he did me a good turn in last years Warwick National but his 2 runs this year have been shocking,of course me being me will back him again this weekend so long as he’s confirmed a runner, reason why? Having watched him embarrass himself last week and embarrass me watching it I was amazed Joe never pulled him up,there’s a reason for that, its because he was being given a school in Public simple as that, the horse just wasn’t fit enough to go the relatively slow pace but Joe knew this fellow has stamina in abundance and whilst most jockeys would have given up hope after tailing himself off Joe knew the run would do him more good than bad and he actually stayed on again incredibly passing several tired horses,no mean feat under that weight.Whilst Joe Public will ask how the hell did ‘Hey Big spender’ win the Warwick Chase on Saturday should he do so,we wont be too surprised will we Nath!
Its called laying one out I believe!

Good analogy rich,at least ‘Pete’ gets 31/4m my concern has to be the fact he’s gone up a mere 41lb in the past year……..2 ‘Hunt Balls’ in a year?? Surely not!

Its all about opinion Tommy,I know you are a pretty good judge so respect the fact you dont agree with me about
Darlan
,his current price of 4/1 is only terrible for those who haven’t got 25/1 so I’m as happy as a Pig in S*it there. When I assess an unexposed horse there is a certain criteria I look for in a potential Champion and that is a willingness to win both
Dawn Approach
and
Darlan
have it in bundles, when ‘Highbarns’ comes a cantering 2 out he’ll need it too to get past my fellow in the 2000gns and when ‘Hurricane Fly’ does the same he’ll get the shock of his life, thats why I rate ‘Zarkandar’,he’s got bottle too! I stated several times a year ago that I thought ‘Darlan’ was a certainty for the ‘Supreme’ and thats why I made the journey to see him ‘in person’ last February,I walked back in with him and he looked like a Boxer who’d literally been knocked out and was staggering,he has proved himself since!

Any thoughts on
Kid Cassidy
for the Grand Annual Gord? I thought he had a lovely spin around Cheltenham last time out, when he gave winner Shooters Wood 20lbs. If he re-opposes he’ll only be getting 3lbs and considering the tentative ride Kid Cassidy received I think he can easily turn around the 9 lengths. He did disappoint in the race last year but he’s definitely being campaigned with a return mission this season.

I very much doubt the last part of your statement! I’d wager the Hurricane will breeze by him if on song, he’s no soft horse by any means and has battled fought like a tiger in the past. It should be noted that the Fly is yet to be beaten in Ireland or England by something coming from behind him, he just doesn’t let anything by. He was coming back from injury the only time he was beaten in Ireland while there is no way he was right last year. Imo the winner be him or one of the horses who ran in the Bula (head on the block statement I know).
If I had to pick one it would be the Fly (loyalty and all that eh
)January 9, 2013 at 21:28 #425804Wouldn’t be t first time one of Hendo’s has disappointed at the festival only to come back and win! I have been backing him for a while as JP loves any winners there as we all know

Kid Cassidy GDC? Glad to know I’m not alone in my views, if he runs he’ll surely be close to going off favourite again.
