One out of three ain’t bad Gord me old pal
The second the dust settled at Cheltenham I had to wade in and take advantage of the generous(if not blank cheque material
) 10/1 that Billy Hills had to offer. Shame he ventured to Aintree as I was quite happy to take more of their money at that price! He and my old mate Un Atout(Jewson) will provide the best part of my ante-post investments for next term
April 6, 2013 at 07:55 #435412Just managed to get 10/1 about a horse I have the utmost respect for in
African Gold
,after next years World hurdle winner cruised home yesterday it only confirms the ability the Twiston-Davies horse has too,he’s up against the World hurdle Champ but my selection is an improving performer and I’m expecting a big run from him,he should be a 6/1 shot imo.I remember getting a fright in the Albert Bartlett as to just how well ‘African Gold’ was travelling and back on good ground I think he’ll hold his own today.
African Gold
£150 e/w 10/1 William Hill, Aintree 2.50pm.
£9359
April 6, 2013 at 08:05 #435420One of the few horses to cost me Ante-Post at Cheltenham will hopefully recoup those losses today.
Cantlow
was undoubtedly my biggest headache at the festival as he was multi entered even into the week of the meeting itself!
Ridiculous that Paul Webber couldn’t commit him earlier as he knew all along where he wanted him to run but he got his comeuppence when the poor horse was ruled out with a nose bleed at the last minute.I expect a JP gamble or 2 today, one on this fellow and two onAlderwood
amongst others in the National itself.
Cantlow
£200 win 6/1 Corals,Aintree 3,25pm.

Agree Gord, massive price, AFC franked the form alright and the novice hurdlers don’t seem a bad bunch do they?! Solwhit rightly the favourite and have had a nibble at 11/4 also, think one of these two will win.
Strong fancy for Up and Go in the first also, Dodging Bullets very beatable, bombed at Aintree last year, Eduard the danger.
April 6, 2013 at 13:12 #435505I have seen no end of good National types run well the following year with a good 10lb extra on their back and I can see
Sunnyhill Boy
doing just that today,he wasn’t entered in the Gold cup for nothing and his profile suits a return visit.Incredibly and its almost an Historic fact but TAPK has put up a horse Ante-Post at half the odds he trades at on the day!!
Unheard of I know as last year I put him up months before the race at 40/1 and got chinned on the line, that result is what you call a sickener and still is,today is a chance to even the score and at 25/1 the horse has drifted like a barge in the space of 24hrs,not that it puts me off his chances one iota, here’s hoping!Sunnyhill Boy

My overall thoughts Darren are what a Sh*t day its been,I fancied 3 horses strongly today,
Alderwood
,
African Gold
, and
Cantlow
all 3 dissapointed. As for the National………I never got a look in.God knows what race Paul Carberry was in but it wasn’t this years,he wouldn’t win next years if he started now.No it was the worst renewal I can remember,C4 didn’t cover it particularly well and as for the re-run???
What never helped was their camera angles.I didn’t have a clue who was who after 3 fences and even the commentary only focused on a limited amount of horses,I didn’t hear ‘Forpadys’ name mentioned once.Great news that injury wise it was a great success but as a spectacle it was the worst National I’ve seen but for whatever reason I just wasn’t as excited about this years race as usual, possibly because I felt the whole field lacked quality.I certainly wouldn’t have picked the winner if I had bet half the field!
April 7, 2013 at 12:51 #435686From an Ante-Post perspective I have been delighted with the shape of the markets surrounding my 2 horses for this years 2000 gns.
Dawn Approach
was double figures throughout last summer and I’d keep topping up as he slowly but surely developed into the top 2yo I’d expected him to be from the moment I saw him on the 16th May.Touch wood everything has gone silky smooth and he’ll go off the 5/4fav on the day.The complete opposite can be said for
Cristoforo Colombo
though,he had a very strange 2yo campaign a season that never showed the true potential of the horse culminating in yet another strange decision to run him in the Middle Park rather than the Dewhurst, from my own selfish reasons I was delighted that the public never did get to see the real horse and I again kept snaffling the 33/1 with generous Ladbrokes when all else were 20/1.That all changed in recent weeks when substantial money has seen this son of ‘Henry’ cut from 14’s to 7’s on the machine and a solid 8/1 on the High st.What makes me laugh is how one Bookmaker will take a hefty wager at 14/1 and by close of play every bookmaker has cut the horse to single figures, some of which haven’t taken a single penny for him!
However something strange has occurred in recent days as ‘Cristoforo’ alarmingly drifted from 7’s to 20’s and stayed at that price for a few days.I’ve heard nothing untoward about the horse and so have yet again nibbled the 16’s 15’s and 13’s as until I hear he’s injured from the stable I’m still of the opinion he is the biggest danger to the Mighty Chestnut.I’ll take 1st and 2nd in either order but for the benefit of this thread and my credibility as ‘The Ante-Post King’ I’d get more satisfaction from
‘New approach’ and his son avenging ‘Henry’ and his sons defeat from 2008,a result that suited me just fine back then…….Turncoat!
April 7, 2013 at 14:50 #435712Yes an interesting one. The money on the exchanges has been for O’Brien’s other two and Toronado. Aiden said yesterday that all was well with CC and that is was "all systems go" for him so nothing to worry about from the sound of it.
My guess is that one of CC, GV or Mars will go to France and the betting suggests that it won’t be Mars. Much will depend on the ground methinks.
I am happy that with my 25’s on Georgy Boy but am keeping a close eye on the weather. If it is wet and the Guineas is run on ground with cut then I can’t see why he would bridge the 3 lengths on DA from the Dewhurst. In fact I doubt he would even run.
BUT
If the ground rides good or firmer you will see a different horse. A horse with a potent turn of foot. A horse that will skip past DA like he is standing still neighing "Goodnight Vienna" as he goes!

I’m completely with you there, I couldn’t get excited about the race for some reason and I knew I’d done my dough early on (I also backed Chicago along with Quel Esprit and Colbert Station). My attention is firmly on the flat now which I tend to do better on from a betting perspective anyway. Really looking forward to the Craven meeting in a few weeks time, and I hope there’s some good young 2 year olds waiting to be unleashed!

Money talks Joni as you know and there has been more money for
Cristoforo Colombo
than any other Coolmore horse for the 2000gns.The build up to the race itself is a Mirror image of the 2000gns of 2008 when ‘Henry’ was the outsider of the Coolmore horses at 20/1 at about the same time as this,he worked on the grass at Ballydoyle the week before the race itself and a substantial gamble was initiated as Newmarket was riding perfect (Good). The Coolmore ‘hotpot’ was supposed to be
Jupiter Pluvious
for some strange reason but he never even ran. What was even stranger was the fact
New Approach
went off fav for the Irish Guineas on even faster ground and again played second fiddle to the ‘Faster the better’
Henrythenavigator
.Incidently this ‘Jupiter Pluvious’ got stuffed in the Irish version too!
Ravens Pass
confirmed just what a good Guineas it was!
YourGeorge Vancouver
will win races this year but he wont beat
Cristoforo Colombo
on genuine Good ground as he doesn’t have his Fathers looks unlike ‘Cristoforo’ does!
April 7, 2013 at 20:50 #435759Well time will tell. Did you see
Moth
today? Seriously impressive and is going to be supplemented for the 1,000 Guineas. In a wide open race she could be a player with that turn of foot. 14’s generally available.

April 7, 2013 at 21:11 #435762Very impressive visually Joni, fine stamp of a filly too with an explosive turn of foot.Ok she beat nothing of Classic potential in a very slow time but it was the way Joseph just toyed with them that caught my eye.I’m not seeing the same filly I saw last year either which tells me she has improved over the winter.14/1 in a wide open race is still generous considering where she comes from. The mile wont pose a problem but whether she can quicken off a fast pace over Newmarkets undulations is questionable,I cant see a single filly in the 1000gns that really stands out so I dont think it will take so much winning this year again a bonus for
Moth
.
April 7, 2013 at 21:19 #435765Perfectly put sir. I have been waiting for something to come along as I really can’t fancy anything at the top of the market. Might have a little dabble!

April 7, 2013 at 21:29 #435766Surprisingly slow to price her up I see, particularly Betfair who have about a 100 fillies priced up and yet nothing for
Moth
,I expect to see 16’s in the morning!

Three bookies have her up. PP, SJ and BetVictor. Tried BetVictor as I am 2 from 2 with them this year and they refused my £75ew!!! Went on PP instead!

I dont doubt for one minute I could succeed with your mechanical approach but I dont think you have my foresight to succeed with long range Ante-Post coups! Game On!

Here’s one for you Gord,
2013 Grand National
Cappa Bleu
@ 33/1 (b365) TO WIN, (no each way savers)

Ran really well in this year’s race, doing best of those held up for a late run. If given a light campaign is likely to get a good handicap mark. Unless it comes up heavy or firm (shouldn’t be any worse than good with watering) goes on all but extremes. Proven jumper of the fences. One slight worry is he had an injury before this season, hopefully that won’t reappear.
Of course I might have had a few other bets come the day.

Am amazed he isn’t first or second fav with Sunnyhillboy.
Of course, shame I was too confident and backed Cappa Bleu win only. But then again, had I done so probably would not have come up with the winner Auroras Encore, another win only bet @ 119/1.
