I honestly don’t know whether to take you seriously or not Potato!
Major Jumbo doesn’t match the profile of Regal Parade. RP was dropping back from 7F to 6 and won because the ground was testing something RP hadn’t raced on since winning the Ayr Gold Cup the season before. He came from last to first.
Major Jumbo has never run over more than 6F and front runs. That’s completely different even just there.
The last 10 winners of this were sired by a Group 1 winning horse or decent group 2 distance winning horses.
RP is sired by a Group 1 winning horse, Major Jumbo isn’t. Zebedee’s best RPR was 108. There is nothing in his progeny that’s won a Group 1. Showcasing has proven progeny Group1 form already.
The list of differences goes on.
Even if they did match and to be fair they do a bit as you’ve pointed out, to say that MJ matches the profile of a previous winner ignores the fact he doesn’t have the profile for most of/if not all the other winners!
Anyway good luck with him, 40/1 can’t hurt. It’s a race where you could make a decent enough argument for most of them. You had a good try with Major Jumbo so fair play!
I was nearly sold on the lager and rum part!
September 5, 2019 at 00:39 #1452866Like Raymo I’m with So Perfect in this.
She ran a cracking race
in the Nunthorpe passing Mabb’s Cross to take 3rd to Battaash and believe she will love the track and not be inconvenienced by soft going.Daughter of the late great Scat Daddy she has been highly tried running in 10 Group races in her 13 race career, winning 2 X Group 3’s beating her half sister Skitter Skatter at The Curragh and placing 3 times in Group 1 races.
This is the time of year that fillies tend to do well at big prices and on Saturday over a Course and a Distance that should suit she can hopefully add a Group 1 win to her bow for the magician that is Aiden O’Brien and enhance her fee standing as a daughter of Scat Daddy for stud purposes.
Maybe if she wins they’ll name a beer after her if they haven’t already

So Perfect
Around 20/1
Win or EWThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...September 5, 2019 at 06:51 #1452870I had another good look at the AOB runners last night and watching Betfair where So Perfect shortened a fair bit before going out again this morning but I think there’s a good chance So Perfect could be AOBs either only runner or his number 1 in this now and therefore 20/1 purely from an odds game point of view is worth taking as if that’s the case she’ll probably start 10/1 on Saturday.
I had a few quid as a saver EW. She doesn’t have the form usually needed to win this but I can see her running into a place.
September 5, 2019 at 08:43 #1452871If Aiden has a runner here then it will be fairyland and it is an if.
Your logic that if So Perfect runs then it will go off 10/1 because its aidens only runner is flawed as his last 3 runners in this race (only runner each time) returned at 16/1, 40/1 and 25/1.
The track where Aiden has the worst record in his entire career (evey country included) by a very long way is Haydock.
He has a career record of 0 from 18 at Haydock. We know his only realistic hope of a win here isnt going to turn up so I feel the mass rush of people to back his outsiders here in the antepost market is somewhat a misguided move.
It was only yesterday he did an interview saying it was unlikely Ten Soverigns would run but if he doesnt then he MIGHT send Fairyland.
Now my horse Major Jumbo may not make the final decs I have no idea and havent heard Kevin Ryan speak on the matter. I know its a risk that he may not come as he has 3 entries in the race but its a calculated risk especially with the chance that none of O briens will turn up and there will be at least a few others who wont come because of the soft ground.
So potentially I could be on a 40/1 shot in a 6 runner race paying 3 places. Its a calculated risk that Im willing to take in the hope it turns up.I just dont get the aiden outsider angle at all here.
September 5, 2019 at 09:53 #1452873I’m usually trying to take on AOB Potato not joining any mass rush to back any of his runners at all.
I backed So Perfect last Saturday at 25/1 with Bet365 as I backed her EW in the Nunthorpe and liked the way she finished off the race.
Unless she has genes of Mr Ed in her pedigree So Perfect will have no idea of her tainers track record at Haydock so will run to the best of her ability there..
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...September 5, 2019 at 09:58 #1452874Agree that the horse doesnt know yhe trainers track record and that wouldnt effect him but are you aware of Aidens interview yesterday about the race?
He says Ten Soverigns wont run if its soft and that Fairyland MIGHT take his chance if that is the case.
Maybe you werent aware of that interview but it certainly appeared Fairyland was the only possibility of a runner here and even that was only a maybe.
I would cash out now if I was you as the decs are coming any moment. Would be a shame to not even get a run. Your call though.
September 5, 2019 at 10:01 #1452875Aidan O’Brien warns Ten Sovereigns will miss Sprint Cup if ground is soft
Wed 4 Sep 2019
Ten Sovereigns could sidestep Saturday’s Sprint Cup at Haydock on account of the rain-softened ground. After being a beaten favourite in both the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, Aidan O’Brien’s colt belatedly delivered on his juvenile promise with a dominant display in the July Cup at Newmarket on his penultimate start.
The No Nay Never colt could finish only sixth when a hot favourite to follow up in the Nunthorpe at York last month, but looked set to return to six furlongs in this weekend’s Group One feature on Merseyside.
Watch how Ten Sovereigns bolted up in the July Cup
However, speaking at a press event at his yard on Wednesday morning, O’Brien said: “I would say we wouldn’t run on soft ground. There is rain forecast and that is not good.
“He is a real fast ground daisy cutter. If he doesn’t run, Fairyland might run instead. That’s what we are thinking at the moment.”
September 5, 2019 at 10:45 #1452876Theres the curveball thrown by Aiden
TEN SOVERIGNS runs as does fairyland. The other 2 dont.
Major jumbo makes the field of 8
Its written in the stars
September 5, 2019 at 10:49 #1452877foget that i was looking on twitter So perfect is going and its a field of 13
I looked on twitter and it showed 8 horses until i clicked and it expanded.
NEVER NO MORE is the only runner to get pulled at the 48 hour stage.
September 5, 2019 at 11:15 #1452880I think AOB said this week that TS will definitely be declared anyway, so not sure that means he runs?
William Hill have priced up Advertise at 11/4? Thats huge without TS surely? There is a chance Advertise could improve a little on the soft and it will bring his extra stamina into play in any case. Considering adding him as a saver at those odds, which would mean both Advertise and Khaadem are savers now with Dream of Dreams being the bet.
I’m not sure about Khaadem on soft ground now, bit of a question mark for me. I didn’t think it was going to come up soft earlier this week, so I’m happy to keep him to saver I think.
I’m expecting Dream of Dreams to be ridden a little more forward than he was at Ascot and hopefully Major Jumbo and 1 or 2 others can inject some pace.
September 5, 2019 at 11:16 #1452881Plenty of rain forecast from 4am to 1pm tomorrow
Very unlikely ten sovereigns will run
September 5, 2019 at 11:20 #1452882Glad I didn’t see that interview yesterday Potato as it would now confirm what I always thought that Aiden is a smoke and mirrors man when approached by the press and why shouldn’t he be.
I did think he would leave at least So Perfect in the race as this could turn out an easier option than The Matron Stakes in Ireland where she holds an entry.
Exciting race ahead.
Love these sprints.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...September 5, 2019 at 11:20 #1452883Yes I agree thinking about it. Theres still going to be plenty of non runners as it will definitely be soft.
I guess they are just keeping option open but it will be very unlikely to run.
To be fair Tryptych I find the vast majority of trainers talk absolute nonsense to the press and always have done.
I love the sprints too, my only issue with them is they are over too quickly.
September 5, 2019 at 11:21 #1452884O’Brien said on Wednesday: “We’ll check the surface but we wouldn’t run on soft ground. We’ll declare in the morning but there’s rain forecast, which is not good.
“He moves on the ground – he’s a fast-ground horse, a daisy-cutter – and we wouldn’t run on soft ground.”
September 5, 2019 at 13:33 #1452893To be fair to AOB, the press are expecting responses on a certain day, when we know how bad Haydock is when soft etc. + how inconsistent forecasters are! Think you’re being harsh Trip!

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!September 5, 2019 at 16:15 #1452896REGAL PARADE was horse number 9
MAJOR JUMBO is drawn number 9Unbelievable scenes
Gone in again on Major Jumbo at 66/1

Im hoping its not that price because somebody knows its not going to run. 40/1 was crazy
66/1 is out of this worldHas a genuine chance here, just needs to turn up.
I got the jockey I wanted as well. Kevin Stott booked to win his first ever group 1 just like Adrian Nicholls did 10 years ago on regal parade in this race.
September 5, 2019 at 16:32 #1452897Oh I didn’t mean that post to come across as harsh Jack.. I was just trying to put across that AOB gave the Press the story they were looking for on the day (sending them off with a story) while knowing that he would actually be waiting it out with all his runners in place keeping an eye on the weather until he decides to make his final cuts..a very clever man
