That video is great fair play to the guy

Ian I think it must be highly likely there has been very late money from some insiders or shrewdies on the exchange, the bookies barely took a penny on him allegedly and I know it wouldn’t take much normally to get it from 50/1 to 28/1 but this is the Grand National there would have been plenty available at 50/1 I’d have thought and probably bigger on the exchange if the bookies were holding at 50/1 with the overround. The bookies may not have been hit but somebody has definitely had it off large on the machine who probably couldn’t get on with the bookies, somebody must have a screengrab of the graph before the off for Noble Yeats, I’ll get checking twitter.

Edit: no screengrab yet but Betdaq’s own version of SP was 60.8 which is what you’d expect to see and bigger for Noble Yeats on Betfair

When they come to write another book on the history of Aintree in thirty years they’ll have to include Sam as one of the great jockeys . His record over these fences is remarkable. And to win the big one in his last ever ride means this will be a National that will live long in the memory.

Needless to say I had the second and third win only.

As for the presentation I was close to booing O’Leary but bottled it. And I was disappointed that the groom wasn’t there to collect his trophy.

” The bookies may not have been hit but somebody has definitely had it off large on the machine who probably couldn’t get on with the bookies ”

I witnessed something similar at Cheltenham last year with Petite Mouchoise in the County Hurdle Tinman.

I got a bit involved taking 33/1 with the bookies thinking he would go off far shorter and i might get a 10/1 free bet on him. Anyhow when i checked before going to bed he was 45/1 so had another blast thinking next morning he would be a load shorter. Next morning checked and he was 60/1 so had another blast, checked again 5 minutes before the race and he was still the same.

Then i rushed upstairs to go to the loo and by the time i came back down they were lining up to start and he was down to 14/1 on the machine and all my bets had been matched in about 2 minutes or so. There was absolute fortunes available beforehand. He never won like but it was really weird i thought about ten horses had been withdrawn or something.

While I think that a seven-year-old who’s never won over three miles being allowed in the National, let alone winning it, takes the proverbial, respect is due to the much unfairly criticised Sam Waley-Cohen. Truly the Britt Baker of the Jumps.

I can’t possibly post what I REALLY think about the 2022 Grand National, but it’s something I haven’t ever thought before in 48 years of watching the race.

One of the factors that deterred me from Noble Yeats was that he was due to be 6 lbs better in at Fairyhouse. (Suppose his performances in Britain could have been interpreted as better).

SWC announcing his retirement ended any interest – no room for romance here.

An emmet mullins plot job at 50-1 why did I not back that

Though the 7yo bit would’ve put almost all of us off I guess

The bookies will be delighted no doubt that he beat any second now

A 7 year old first season novice having his only his 8th chase start, having never won over 3 miles, all the while ridden by an amateur. There were plenty of reasons to ignore him on old trends  But the race is changing so much as each year passes, I can’t say I’m honestly that surprised that nearly every stat going got thrown out today. He could have another 5 Nationals in him yet. Up 9lbs? A repeat can not be ruled out.

We don’t know what the race might have taken out of him, though. I didn’t even have him on my list of horses to look at due to the 10 plus chase starts stat. One thing I was looking at though was the number of races a horse had had that season as I knew I needed to eliminate the ones that had had only one or two starts. It’ll be fascinating to see where this horse goes next, though. And how influential Yeats is going to be as a NH sire. Just going to check out his progeny.

I can’t believe that big jessie Davies is scared to post his big Grand National secret. A (supposed) Knight of the Carbonated Drinks realm as well. An outrage!

Not a secret, just a theory, but it’s all a bit Dick Francis – doing some investigating.

I’m probably best ignored – no change there, then.
