“The Irish handicap marks are clearly ridiculous.”
I think it is more a case of the British marks being ridiculous, TTC.
Are they not the same thing?
If one is true the other one must be true.Value Is EverythingApril 10, 2021 at 18:15 #1535724Henry de bromhead has trained the winner of the champion hurdle, champion chase, 1-2 in the gold cup and winner of the grand national
Rachel didn’t even ride 2 of the winners
This guy has had an unbelievable month
April 10, 2021 at 18:16 #153572650-1, incredible Silver Spoon, very well done.
April 10, 2021 at 18:17 #1535727This is such a great result for the sport

April 10, 2021 at 18:29 #1535733“Henry de bromhead has trained the winner of the champion hurdle, champion chase, 1-2 in the gold cup and winner of the grand national”.
He had the 1-2 in the National as well as the Gold Cup!
April 10, 2021 at 18:30 #1535734Bromhead has come a long way from running Sizing John over 2m for years to be fair to him. What a month the fella has had.

April 10, 2021 at 18:32 #1535736Not sure I agree that British handicap marks being too high automatically implies Irish marks are too low, or indeed vice versa. It depends on where they both are compared to long-term trends. Is a horse rated 150 in each country of the same ability as it was a decade ago?
April 10, 2021 at 18:36 #1535738WD all on the winner and anyone who collected on the places. A very unlucky runner up to be fair i thought.
April 10, 2021 at 19:02 #1535748If Chris’s dream stayed up he coulve had a 1-2-3
April 10, 2021 at 19:23 #1535753If the Irish handicap marks are too low then the GB runners have an even bigger problem, because with higher ratings the Irish would have had an even bigger percentage of the field. Maybe they either have better horses, or better trainers, or a combination of both.

That is for certain. Possibly could add in they get in first on buying the best horses and possibly they are better at setting horses up for big races. Apart from that there is not much between them both.
April 10, 2021 at 20:46 #1535767Great for racing , outwith the irish I thought Blacklion ran a great race , he had looked gone at the game so fair play to Skelton on the job he has done
April 10, 2021 at 21:19 #1535769Agree about Blaklion (slightly biased as I’d backed him). However, he must have thought he was running riderless given the huge weights he’s had to hump in all his previous races. Backs up the theory that even British horses can run well if given a chance by the handicapper!
April 10, 2021 at 23:38 #1535781Cloth Cap poor run explained from trainer..
“Tom said he was going along grand and then he just started gurgling a little bit and he did the right thing pulling him up.
Before that he was having a great run round. We’ll get him checked out, but I think it will be his wind.”April 11, 2021 at 01:31 #1535782Unfortunately for connections it will take 5 years and 20 bad runs to get cloth cap back down to a sensible handicap mark
Even then like definitely red he will probably still be mid 150s
April 11, 2021 at 08:29 #1535808What has Ballyoptic done recently to merit a rating of 157?
April 11, 2021 at 08:43 #1535812Ballyoptic should be heading to Scotland to see a certain trainer near kelso for a bit of TLC , NTD hasn’t had a great year
