So i went against my own word and backed Saint Are while the price lasts. Can easily see 33 being as big as it gets come the day, if not at the 5 day stage.

Second and last bet for this years national

Measureofmydreams £100ew 66/1 NRNB with skybet

    Reasons for my fancy-

Previous Strong Irish form beating noble endeavour and 1 length down when Black hurclues fell at the last.

Ran a good third in the four miler beating Vieux Lion Rouge (current 10 fav) and 6 length s behind this year gold cup 2nd and third at Cheltenham.

Noel Meade horses are running reasonably well.

Ultima was a good prep run, he ran on when he was being ridden and then faded. Needed the run

Has nearly bottom weight and a nine year old.

66/1 is to big and I think there is more to come. Jumping is a concern but National is a lottery and anything might happen.

So my two for this year against the field:

Measure of my dreams 66/1 ew NRNB
    Ballynagour 66/1 ew NRNB

    Happy punting :good: :good: :good:

Good luck with MOMD atthepost. I bet him at New Year, and I am kicking myself as I only got 40-1 though to be fair I did go off of him after his Thyestes run.

I was going to put some more on st 66-1, but I have decided that I will probably put my next bet on another of the gigginstown runners, and I will go with Rogue Angel at 33-1 NRNB.

I’d personally prefer Thunder And Roses over Rogue Angel but he still needs 3 more to pull out. The former Irish National winner has shown glimpses of a revival since moving to Mouse Morris’ stable this season having finished runner-up on 3 occasions. But as I said, still needs 3 more to pull out and I can’t see that happening to be honest.

I have now added Stellar Notion 66/1 to my earlier selections of Bishops Road 66/1 and Goodtoknow 100/1 (not certain of a run)
    Good luck to all

I’m in a bit of conflict about the Grand National, LE MERCUREY who was in my personal top ten in VTC’s 10 to follow competition is in the National. I really don’t fancy him, but like the horse you pick up in a sweepstake got to have a small wager on him.

Put £5 E/W on Maggio @ 50’s NRNB for Mrs.Botchy this afternoon. She normally has one to follow each year and being Italian follows the name she likes.

She has not stopped asking about Maggio all year. It may have something to do with her asking me to back it last year at Aintree and i forgot to put the bet on for her.

Have backed Le Mercurey and Perfect Candidate each way at 50/1. Like Definitly Red but he’s quite short in the betting. Good luck all.

I hope you still paid out Botchy lol………….all joking aside though, I’d give Maggio a big chance here, I certainly wouldn’t be forgetting the bet this year

I’d hang tough there RR, I think (and hope) he’s in with a good shout. He has just been bought by Mrs David
Thompson, the very same Mrs Thompson who bought Party Politics a few days before he won the Grand National in
1992, so if you believe in omens

The Last Samuri as per usual jumped brilliantly, always towards the fore and only beaten after the elbow when 6 lengths runner-up to Rule The World (who received 1 lb) last year off 149; but is now 12 lbs higher this time around. However, it’s possible the late rain was against him. Improved off a 10 lbs higher 159 mark when 3rd behind Vieux Lion Rouge and Highland Lodge in the Becher Chase (3m2f good-soft) back here. Now 5 lbs better off with winner for little over a length and 9 lbs better off for a short head with runner-up. Vieux Lion Rouge has improved/franked the form since, winning Betfred Grand National Trial by 3¼ lengths off a 4 lbs higher mark. The Last Samuri possibly needed the race last time out and/or not at very best on soft (3m2f) Grimthorpe. Finished 14 lengths 2nd to Definitely Red who received the same 12 lbs as here. Although not as well handicapped as last year,The Last Samuri could well improve further, do better on a sounder surface and has all the attributes of a Grand National specialist. Difficult to see him out of the first four and perhaps the ideal each way bet @ 16/1.

Ginger, I was going to ask you if you were doing it again this year, but is that a taster for your horse by horse guide?

Would any Cause of Causes fans be concerned that he ran over nearly 4 miles a little over 3 weeks before this race? I like his chances as he’s a proven stayer who finds plenty when asked – providing he’s on a going day. Doubts in my mind over the break between races being enough though.

The other runner I’m pondering over is Pleasant Company, a half length victory over Thunder and Roses in the Bobbyjo might not appear to be the strongest form but that horse does have a liking for Fairyhouse. Not many miles on the clock either so may have more to offer if he gets the trip.

Like a couple of other on here possibly i have believed that COC main target this year was always going to be Aintree. It could possibly be the reason they went the Cross Country route instead of the Ultima so that he would of had a far easier race. Elliot used the Cross Country for Silver Birch when he won the National also and maybe jumping different types of fences could of been a good prep for Aintree.

I can never ever recall backing a horse so many times Ante Post as Cause of Causes to win the National this year. What a race to choose to do it in

He has an attractive mix of speed/stamina and the way he won the Kim Muir last year was something else. He seems to either win or run like a drain though. Encouraged to hear Elliot took the same route with Silver Birch :good:

My only but rather big concern is the course itself. It’s not Cheltenham. COC has not won a race away fron Cheltenham since January 2013. Otherwise he has a good profile and hopefully the right build up to this.

The thing that turns me off Cause is his running style. This race is usually won by a horse who races handily. Any horse ridden further back than ‘chasing the leaders’ usually have too much to do when the ones up front start turning the tempo up. Unless he jumps impeccably throughout, making up ground at every fence, i just can’t see a horse with such exaggerated waiting tactics like Cause of Causes winning.

It’s a bit more difficult to get hold of the race replays this year, VTC. Am trying to but not sure it’ll be ready in time. :good:
