Blaklion for me too… as Mike says he has the class to win this.
Think The Last Samuri will also run a good race so will do two single bets and
a reverse forecast in this one..JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...December 9, 2017 at 00:47 #1331086A bit off-putting for me that Blaklion is short and hasn’t won a race for 21 months. It could be dangerous to read Bristol De Mai’s next winning margin in any way literally.
Westerner Point has a feather weight and quite a good 5/9 strike rate in Chases. He’s won on heavy and landed his last three chases. He’s not the class of some here but with only 10st 1lb to carry he may be worth a small bet at 12/1 as a token selection in a fairly trappy looking affair.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
December 9, 2017 at 01:04 #1331091Why is As De Mee in this and not the Grand Sefton ? I know Nicholls is thinking about the National but in heavy going ? He only gets a few pounds from Blaklion, who has finished fourth in a National and was dropped two pounds after finishing second to Bristol De Mai at Wetherby.
Stiff task.
Thought for the day – Over the last five seasons in Ireland, Jim Culloty has never trained winners in successive months and only once not gone 3 months or longer without a winner.
Lord Windermere hasn’t won in three years, has placed only once in two years and yet has a rating of 144.December 9, 2017 at 11:22 #1331185Have added VLR to my Goodtoknow bet
December 9, 2017 at 11:23 #1331187Whatever version of them through the years the fences always take more jumping on Soft/Heavy. Also, I sometimes wonder if they are made a bit stiffer for this meeting or, more to the point, too easy for the National when the spotlight is on. Add in the testing ground per se and I doubt many will finish today. Lightweights could be favoured. That rules out The Last Samuri. My take on Blaklion is he has become very one-paced. The Young Master can’t jump these fences, I’ll have salt on the hat I eat if he gets round. I fear the bottom four in the weights but surely the safest option is a win bet each on Vieux Lion Rouge and Highland Lodge, they are proven and 8/1 and 9/1 respectively.

I would agree with SC above but slight preference would be for Goodtoknow who is 4 from 7 on heavy and comes from a trainer who seems to have a knack of winning these events
December 9, 2017 at 13:07 #1331220Blaklion will be hard to beat but cant have him at 2/1
Viva steve 12/1
December 9, 2017 at 13:20 #1331224The Last Sumari at 8/1 for me.
December 9, 2017 at 13:24 #1331228All about Westerner Point for me now, and hoping for a run for my money. Been a hard old race Ante-Post, and the way it went, glad to have one actually make it lol
The Young Master would be a hard one to take should he pop up, and I’ll have a few quid on him and Straidnahanna, both at 50’s win, and slightly smaller odds ew with the 5 Places.
December 9, 2017 at 13:25 #1331229Goodtoknow 12s
Portrait King 28s
Straidnahanna 50s
All EWLove Blaklion but ground adds inches to those fences for the wee horse
Good luck all
December 9, 2017 at 13:30 #1331230Happy with VIEUX LION ROUGE, but I’ve been a fan of THE YOUNG MASTER for a while Bob, so I’ll
follow you in with an e/w on him, although had to settle for 33sDecember 9, 2017 at 13:41 #1331232Well done the wee horse!! I thought 13/8 was utterly mental for any horse in this type of race in this ground, let alone a small one (albeit well handicapped). And well done anyone on him.
December 9, 2017 at 14:02 #1331245Well done all that were on him. That couldn’t have looked easier,
I would expect he was trading well odds on from some way out. He looks very
decent.December 9, 2017 at 14:09 #1331246Graham, shall we form a pact not to bet TYM again, or are we going to assume he’ll be well handicapped for April lol
December 9, 2017 at 14:20 #1331250I think we need to have a pact to abandon Straidnahanna (except at Catterick).
December 9, 2017 at 14:23 #1331251I could promise now that I’m never going to back him again Bob, but you and I both know
there’s always going to be that little “what if” whisper at the back of our minds with
him. I think, in the words of Private Frazer, “we’re doomed”December 9, 2017 at 14:35 #1331255Well done, any Blaklion backers. Wanted to see the Bristol De Mai form boosted but would not have backed him at that price with stolen money.
