Worth bearing in mind that Three Faces West doesn’t like being in and around horses, according to Hobbs’ RP stable tour. Surely a National of any description is the complete opposite of what he’d enjoy.
December 5, 2017 at 13:47 #1330501Maybe he just needs to front run?
With Vicente out I might just back Blaklion as he has a solid chance, can still get 4/1. Vieux Lion Rouge is up in the weights but should be in the places, as would be Last Samuri…
December 5, 2017 at 13:52 #1330503He does, just thought I’d mention it as it may be a reason why he isn’t declared for this weekend.
December 5, 2017 at 16:39 #1330535tbh 7/2 Blaklion looks good enough value on last year’s form, let alone the seemingly improved effort at Wetherby. Tugged his way to the front in Grand National and didn’t get home – looking well ahead of his mark. Should have no problem/improve on that performance at this trip… And subsequent Betfair win bt his Charlie Hall conqeror means it’s possible he’s quite a bit better this term.
Not that he’s the only one with potential. Gas Line Boy who’s usually a good jumper. May be 11 years old but was going really well last time out and his jockey believes was going to put up an improved performance before an uncharacteristic fall. Doesn’t always find a great deal off the bridle, but at 10/1 worth taking a chance.
The Last Samuri ran the best hurdles race of his life and Kim Bailey is in better form than he was last April. Top weight, but these fences suit him well and could improve again in this sphere. Got a soft spot for him, would’ve been my biggest ever win a couple of years ago had he held on in the big one = so may be am biased.
I’ve taken 7/2 Blaklion and 10/1 Gas Line Boy, will probably be on The Last Samuri too.
Am surprised they ran Vieux Lion Rouge in the Charlie Hall. Although has a good record at this meeting he’s come here fresh in the past.
As De Mee has good form over these fences, wasn’t given a hard time last time out when well beaten by Might Bite, but may have lost his chance of winning this when winning at Kelso; beating an exposed field at odds-on. 4 lbs higher now.
Highland Lodge is the other one with a great record in this race (ignore his form elsewhere). However, the 11 year old is on a 6 lbs higher mark than last year and expect one or two to go past him on the run-in.
Value Is EverythingDecember 6, 2017 at 00:48 #1330584Welcome to TRF Kev. Yeah, I clocked that in The Stable Tour, 3 Faces was my main interest in the Hobbs Edition, and it seems a fair shout, given the relatively small fields he’s been in. His, erm, “unique” style of jumping probably wouldn’t be helped by being unsighted, but I think he’d be ok if he could lay up handy. Connections were certainly gutted when he got injured last year, as Aintree was the plan. I’m fairly sure he’ll be kept in at Chepstow, after this forfeit stage, and that’s a race I’m itching to back him in.
Another thought I had is that maybe The Last Samuri or Viva Steve are further forward for this, and 3 Faces needs more time to recover from that Cheltenham run. I hope I’m wrong about that pair, as I’m not with either of them, and they’re massive dangers.
December 6, 2017 at 13:36 #1330639Cheers VTC, been lurking on here for a while as when I tried registering it wasn’t working for me for some reason.
I like Highland Lodge in this e/w. Good record in the race, off a nice weight and will be tuned up to run for his life.
GLB would be my second selection but IW isn’t sure whether he runs in this or the Sefton so have left him alone for the time being.
December 6, 2017 at 15:13 #1330655I have to say, I don’t think this is a brilliant renewal. But it’s a race I don’t like backing short priced horses in but every piece of form, the ground, the trip, etc suggests the favourite should win this costly.
7/2 is good enough for me.
I simply think he will win and then move on to bigger things by just jumping them silly off the front.
December 6, 2017 at 22:18 #1330717When I say a horse isn’t running it’s because it is a factual statement made from the connections

“Vicente won’t be running the Becher Chase but he could head to Aintree on Saturday for the Many Clouds Chase instead.”
I saw the quote from Nicholls Mike, I just wonder why ALL of the bookies still have him in the
betting as low as 10/1. I wished he was running, I put him up along with Vieux Lion Rouge a week
ago, but Nicholls was quite clear he would not run in the Becher. I wonder how many people, who
weren’t aware of his comments, have parted with cash after Nicholls declared his intentions

Well good to have you on board Kev…………There’s an IT “Issues” thread in Horse Racing, feel free to put the issues you had registering, on to that thread if you want. I’m sure “Admin” would want to look into that.
I see Three Faces not confirmed for Chepstow right enough, just wonder if he’s had a setback.
December 7, 2017 at 18:56 #1330842Gas Line Boy runs in the Grand Sefton I am afraid!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!
December 7, 2017 at 20:09 #1330854I had Gas Line Boy last time when Dunne started looking round, appeared to confuse the horse and dumped it into the Aintree turf. However, He’s riding well at present, so 9-1 will do for the Grand Sefton.
December 7, 2017 at 23:23 #1330891Disappointed that Gas Line doesn’t go here, but no damage done with him, as didn’t go overboard, with that double entry of his. No, the damage was done with Three Faces West earlier in the week, as I had topped up on him.
I’m left with Westerner Point here, and the way he’s going, I could lay a good bit off to ease the pain, but just going to let it all ride on him, and take the hit should things not go according to plan.
December 8, 2017 at 00:33 #1330902Thanks for all the great work VTC . Goodtoknow 20/1 e w for me
December 8, 2017 at 01:05 #1330908You’re welcome Orchid. Hope you are well, and best of luck with Goodtoknow.
December 8, 2017 at 16:09 #133098216 declared. Can we get a book started on who the obligitary non runner will be?

I’ve also had a small bet each Way on Portrait King. 25/1 looks too big to me.
December 8, 2017 at 21:48 #1331043I like Highland lodge for this, loves the race and his run last year proved he has no problems arriving there fresh having won the year previous, was beaten in a close finish by Vieux Lion Rouge who reopposes on a lot worse terms and i give him a huge chance.
Rogue angel is another that interests me off such a low mark but don’t like the jockey booking, Mc Lernon could be a bit too quiet as RA seems best when he’s let attack his fences and lead whereas Mc Lernon’s one of the quieter riders so intrigued what the plan is with him.
