Despite backing Fencing today for the Dante I have also placed 2 small bets to win today and the Derby:
Happy if either wins and then can cheer them on cometh my BDay on 2nd at the Downs
May 17, 2012 at 11:22 #404415i’ve had an about-turn on this dante stakes. I now think mandaean is the one.
May 17, 2012 at 13:39 #404427Well I will be surprised if the Dante winner wins the Derby, sure Mr O’Brien will not be quaking in his boots
May 17, 2012 at 13:53 #404429Would take a brave man to write the Dante winner off – it wouldn’t be because you read the race spectatularly wrong would it?
May 17, 2012 at 14:12 #404431Well although I wasn’t overly confident before the race I did feel the eventual winner had plenty of scope so tentatively backed him at 10s for Epsom.
Nothing I saw during the race put me off – in fact the opposite so I backed him at 6s immediately after also.
Possibly could have got bigger if I’d shopped around but…

May 17, 2012 at 14:18 #404433Chief: How can someone read a race spectacularly wrong? I was hoping he would win better than that, maybe I have underestimated the runner up who I had not even considered prior to the off!
Spectacularly wrong? I do not think so, maybe i underestimated the winner due to him getting beaten easily by Parish Hall!
I would have the winner behind him after that run
May 17, 2012 at 14:23 #404435I’d missed you had backed Bonfire for the Derby to be honest – i’d read you had backed 3 of the others in the Dante which flopped spectacularly. My apologies.
May 17, 2012 at 14:32 #404436Hey, no need for apologies my good man, all year my racing is geared towards Epsom and then straight on to Cheltenham so I follow these trials very closely! I am still of the opinion that Bonfire will finish behind Parish Hall but as long as one beats Camelot i shall be happy

I am also a massive ante post bettor hence grabbing some of the 50s and 33s about either of the other 2 winning the Dante and Derby, Fencing could not do it but EH was very well bred and the SBS horse was unbeaten and bred to stay so they were worth a tenner at the prices just in case. That’s my way of gambling and it has stood me in good stead over the years, lots disagree but I have to be correct as it is my money
May 17, 2012 at 14:48 #404438Believe me my recent record means i do not advise, let alone frown upon, anyone else’s betting strategys.
May 17, 2012 at 15:00 #404442Joseph O’Brien seems to be riding pacemakers at York.Is there a plan to this?
May 17, 2012 at 20:27 #404477Really liked the dante winner today. Travels so nicely and will surely be fine at epsom. Might be a doubt about staying but he will surely improve regardless
I think hes a good bet
May 18, 2012 at 04:44 #404510You’d have to think The Dante was a better race than the 2000 Guineas. For a fleeting moment I thought Fencing was going to win. He was certainly going like a winner and a lot better than he ever was in the Guineas yet the winner has run away from him in the last furlong.
Certainly makes the Derby a lot more interesting.
I still think Fencing is worth betting on the place market or even EW as he looks a bit of a stuffy character who could improve yet again.
May 18, 2012 at 14:08 #404560The going certainly screwed up the Guineas. But then some will say it was the same for all. Many horses however don’t go on the really soft ground.Montjeu horses are supposed to like the soft ground.
May 20, 2012 at 20:44 #404969Hi all, noobie here

Off to the Derby this year and as its our first time i’m wondering where is best to park up? We’ll be travelling from Gatwick Airport by car. Plan is to leave at 9am and assume there will be plenty of parking available with signposts on route. Am i right?
May 21, 2012 at 10:24 #405016At the current prices, hard to fancy Camelot, even if he is the most likely winner. Odds on for a horse running three times, not my cup of tea.
At the current prices, I like Parish Hall, the fact that Jim Bolger thinks so highly of him, says a lot.
May 23, 2012 at 08:28 #405214Morning all,
Anyone fancying Parish Hall at 16s for the Derby should possibly try the following:
For Parish Hall to run at Epsom I feel he must win the Irish 2000 Gns, now he does not have to win by miles just a nice cosy win will make connections happy. Obviously with only 7 days between races that is not ideal BUT if any man can do it Mr Bolger can!!
Rather than take the 16s available I would suggest the following:
Back Parish Hall to win Saturday at 4s and also to complete the double at a very tasty 50/1 with both Billys and Laddies
I have phoned around and that is the best i could get with offers of 33s, 40s and 25s given by other firms. On Saturday or late Fri night they will go public about the double price and I cannot see him being bigger than 33s and probably 25s all round!I have taken 6s for Saturday and 50s for the double, you have to ask them to speak to their traders but it does not take long

Good luck all who play
May 24, 2012 at 14:26 #405341Good news that Marcus Tregoning has given Hayley Turner the opportunity to ride in the Derby

Not much chance of winning with Cavaleiro but good to have her up top
