My Will is a horse i"m very interested in! He needs freshening up a bit that one!
January 6, 2010 at 20:37 #268313If the rumour that Butler’s Cabin follows the L’Ami route and goes cross country, I make My Will the ante post bet – a proven quantity and has the touch of class that is required… but obviously there’s a lot of luck needed in the GN of course!

He might have a new owner by then Rich, but will still be trained for the race!
January 7, 2010 at 14:57 #268539You’re not looking at the stats lads….
January 7, 2010 at 15:10 #268542I’m just about to write on your thread on Purple. However, it is a close call, because I also want to watch the Gilmore Girls and I also want to sleep.
January 7, 2010 at 15:35 #268552Come on Gerald, share yer thoughts on the Purple!!!
January 7, 2010 at 18:14 #268604I’ll be dribbling things out over the next week, as I do the work.
January 12, 2010 at 20:53 #269512I’m getting a bit confused what to write where, what with this thread, the GN thread in the Big Races section, and BB’s Trends thread on Betdaq.
I even made a contribution on Moe’s GN blog, but I made a mistake by calling myself Me5. Miscounted.
1 Here
2 Betfair
3 Some Australasian Forum
4 Betdaq
5. Erm, maybe I was right the first time – I can’t now remember what the other one is. Forgotten again.
6? GN-BlogEdit: Oh yeah, I’m a member of the Pedigree Query Forum, but haven’t gotten into the swing of using it yet. Mystery solved.
Anyway, this is about Jass, so it belongs here.
It seems to me that the same dozen or so trainers are interviewed for One Jump Ahead, the RP, atr, weekly racing papers etc. Anyway, there’s been a double dose of Keith Reveley this week – Gordon Brown’s Northern Spotlight on the atr site, and also in todays RFO.
JASS
He stays really well and won twice last season at Ayr and Doncaster but the handicapper took a dim view! He has been fourth at Newcastle and Carlisle this time and was beaten a fair way at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day when, due to the frost, it rode a lot quicker than he likes. Weather permitting, he’s now being aimed at a four-miler at Doncaster on February 6.8g Jass
Having run two good races at Carlisle and Newcastle in the Rehearsal Chase, we decided to run him ast Cheltenham on New Year’s Day in the handicap Rambling Minster won last year.. However, we declared him when it was soft and heavy ground but by the time they raced it wasn’t too bad at all and he couldn’t lie up with them. he was on the back foot throughout and could never get into it. He really wants 4m and I’m keen to go for the Eider Chase again, but his owners aren’t at present because he disappointed in it last year. There’s also the 4m chase at Doncaster he won last season to consider and I’d say he’ll end up running there at the end of the month. He has loads of ability but he’s not without his quirks. At least if he runs at Doncaster he has a chance of making the weights for the GN. Currently rated 133. Next hoop though would be for both the trainer and owner agreeing to go for the GN as an 8yo.
To be honest, it it is Soft ground they’re after, at that time of year they’re far more likely to get something suitable at Aintree than Fairyhouse, Ayr, Punchestown or Sandown. I’ve got a silly theory that the grass is slightly longer or thicker or denser at Aintree, and it helps prevent the moisture evaporating from the soil.Sorry about this thread trailing off, I’ve lost my spark/drive.
January 12, 2010 at 21:32 #269532Can’t really speculate much more until the weights come out, which won’t be long now. I just wish I could hibernate till then. Hoping that the icy blast of Southwell will kick start me into life tomorrow.
January 27, 2010 at 18:10 #272394Reveley has announced that Jass won’t be getting a GN entry, as he backs off his fences when he is crowded.
I hope I’ve learned from this, but the horse had won a 19 runner race. Has cost me a bit of money, but not too much.
January 31, 2010 at 12:55 #273215You should always beware when betting on a horse trained by a "Reveley" for the GN. That’s because the so call "Canny Granny" absolutely hated the race and because of that the wonderful SEVEN TOWERS never received an entry despite being prolific over four miles during the 1996/97 season.
Do you reckon Halcon will receive an entry this time around? I just can’t see what else there is to aim for with him anymore.

Seven Towers didn’t get an entry for his own safety – he’d have run straight into the first
January 31, 2010 at 17:54 #273291I assume you are referring to his very low head carriage???
He jumped beautifully that season.
February 1, 2010 at 01:05 #273343I’m too ignorant to know, KC. I HAVE been wondering about the intentions for Halcon Generlardais, but not enough to have a bet. Your reason for HG is pretty much the same one I have for Miko De Beauchene; after Haydock, the GN seems a far more sensible option than the Scottish version, particularly as the new trainer doesn’t like fast ground.
By the way, have had my first £10k bet – £41.67 @ 340.76 , Nozic. Might not run, but that is built into the price.
February 1, 2010 at 01:44 #273346So far I’ve got Character Building [can’t desert him after last year]; Snowy, Backstage
; Hello Bud; Niche Market; Big Fella Thanks [pity about the trainer] and Dream Alliance. Horses I’d like to back
are Siegemaster and Trabolgan. May have a bet on Cane Brake because William Hills have got a price for him. Wish I knew what the plans were for Miko de Beuchene [sp]. Hope to goodness the now back in training Snoopy Loopy isn’t made to run. Sounds as if Silver Birch is giving it a miss. Thought he was running a mighty race again last year; wonderful horse. Pretty awful runs by Enda Bolgers horses today in Ireland; wonder if there’s a problem.
February 1, 2010 at 05:04 #273353I think people may have misinterpreted what Elliott wrote in the Weekender (?), Moe. It said something about the same programme (mentioning La Touche). As he ran in the National last year, doesn’t that mean again this year??? I’m not sure myself, and had difficulties with it when I read it as well.
Also, not sure that that Stable Tour mentioned Gungadu.

Yep and I agree on his jumping

Any thoughts on a dark horse of Johnson’s – Frankie Figg. He’s probably the best jumper of the National fences I’ve seen to fall twice over them. Seems very unlucky and the Johnson horses – he jumps beautifully and has a nice enough profile in that he’s unraced since November when he fell behind Dev. Only worry for me is his handicap mark (132) but I’m hoping that the handicapper gives him a slightly higher mark given his form over the fences.
Abbeybraney is another one – it would be very very dangerous to right off a Johnson horse over the big fences, particularly after the way that Bewleys Berry, Theatre Knight, Frankie Figg and Bestofthebrownies have seemingly come alive over the big fences in the last few years.
