Well what about poor ol’ me? Last year, my biggest potential win in the race was the fresh State Of Play, and this year it is Nozic who is going straight to the GN from the Welsh National.
February 17, 2010 at 15:52 #277394From the start of the thread:-

February 17, 2010 at 19:50 #277465Matt,
Character Building will be ridden by Jamie Codd in the Grand National, who rode him to victory in the Kim Muir.
February 21, 2010 at 02:13 #278177Thanks Gerald. Like a few others, maybe his chance was last year, but if he turns up fit and well/in-form it would be folly not to have him on side….well for me anyway!

Don’t worry if there is 1 stone on the road between Bellwood Cotages and the gallops Charchter Building will be looking for it so he can trod on it and end up missing the race again

John Quinn and his son Sean will no doubt be out with the brooms sweeping the streets before CB goes anywhere on the build up to the race. They have had rerrible luck with CB having missed the race twice at the 11th hour, so hopefully he’ll get there this time and run well.
I will certainly be having a bet on him if he makes it and nothing would give me more pleasure than see him win.
No surprise to see both Black Apalachi and Vic Venturi being cut for the race.
The latter won with so much in hand I would prefer him. He looks every bit a National horse, has a touch of class and would be surprised if he’s not disputing favourtism on the day.
Definitely on my short list.
February 21, 2010 at 11:16 #278216Yeah agree about Vic Venturi, looked to have loads in hand, relatively speaking.
Must be a chance that Mon Mome will be top weight, which would leave VV with 11-09
ouch! Wouldn’t fancy him if that happened tbh!February 21, 2010 at 11:27 #278218I’ve backed Character Building for the past 2 years so have to back him again this year. Are they just keeping him off the track to look after him, though, or is there another underlying problem with him? Either way, he deserves to win. can still remember last year, stopping off at Corals on the way back from my daughters to have another bet on the race only to see CB’s name no longer on the list. Couldn’t believe it. He’d been one of my first bets when the weights came out and I’d been gleefully watching his price shorten for weeks.
February 24, 2010 at 21:53 #278918A pity that Chief Dan George’s victory came 11 days too late. Hopefully, they’ll keep up the payments, and I’ll get my stake back.
"I took the cheekpieces off for the first time and I don’t suppose they’ll be going back on any time soon," said Moffatt.
"He’s a funny old horse, he sort of jumps into other horses to intimidate them a bit.

"But one thing I do know is that he thrives in the spring. He’s entered in the William Hill at Cheltenham, the National and the Scottish National, in which he ran a good race last year."
One to steer clear of at Becher’s!
February 25, 2010 at 00:26 #278953The William Hill? The Chief is one of my most favourite horses and if he runs on the Tuesday I’ll be there to see him!! Have followed him for years..c’mon The Chief [never wins when I back him, though].
March 2, 2010 at 20:13 #280102Have added to my list; Cane Brake, State of Play, Beat the Boys and Gone to Lunch. Backed Kilcrea Castle and Arbor Supreme last week in case their prices came in; it paid off with AS but not KC. Backed Chelsea Harbour today because I couldn’t resist the 100/1.Am hopeful that most of my horses actually run this year, and that I’ll get my money back on Hello Bud if he misses out. I still haven’t reached my limit of £20, which is twice my usual stake, but have inceased my bets to 50 pence ew from 25 pence. I do like to keep up with inflation……
March 10, 2010 at 20:34 #281542That bloody French chef is trying to force me to eat his food again. Why can’t people leave me alone to live my life in peace?
March 10, 2010 at 22:43 #281583Don’t get me started on being left alone by people; having a bad time of things in that department!
April 3, 2010 at 14:00 #287309Just got my Himalayan Trail money back. Didn’t back him last time because I didn’t know he was running.
Not sure my heart can stand many of those kind of finishes.
April 3, 2010 at 14:52 #287318Will Be Done put down.
April 8, 2010 at 10:34 #288493Just got £148 refunded for horses such as Chief Dan George, Merigo and Offshore Account, that were declared, but were balloted out of the race.
Not too happy with my portfolio, so I’ll use the money on the horses I haven’t backed, to make sure my loss is less than £1000.

Gerald,
Have you notice something weird happening with your Betfair account today?
With Chief Dan George I layed off my prospective winnings on him last night knowing that he wouldn’t get a run but seem to have gone into a loss now because of it!
Would this be because the Chief Dan George bet is voided and this I lose money for laying it?
April 8, 2010 at 11:28 #288510Both the bet and the lay would be void.??
If you had previously greened up on the horse, this would be void as well, and money would disappear from your account???
Not too sure Dan, as I hardly every lay off, except in race.
