It was me who said O.F shouldn’t be at 8s on her last showing. Nevertheless, there’s room and time for improvement. I want revenge looks to have been the most impressive so far.
March 12, 2009 at 05:18 #215539Surely there are better plans for Stardom Bound than to finish last in the Kentucky Derby because she didn’t like the traditional dirt?!
Good move. Breeders’ Cup Distaff must be the seasonal goal.

Dell.March 13, 2009 at 05:58 #215935OOPS! (did not intend to start a new thread) …sorry about that.
March 13, 2009 at 08:26 #215940You’ve caught us at a bad time – I think most of us are Cheltenhamed out, though thankfully we’ve just entered the home stretch. Unfortunately it is then onwards and upwards to the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter on Saturday.
I think it is a pity that Freisan Fire and Patena are staying at the Fair Grounds for another trial, but I suppose that it all makes geographical sense, and helps makes the Kentucky Derby what it is, as a lot of the main contenders haven’t taken each other on until the big day.
How are the punters in America treating the synthetic form? Are they just trying to ignore it for the Derby, or is there great study of pedigrees and hoof shape to work out which ones will translate their form to dirt?
March 15, 2009 at 02:23 #216416Ladies and gentleman….tonight we saw the Derby winner.
Fresian Fire looks absolutely fantastic
March 15, 2009 at 02:45 #216424Louisiana Derby indeed!
Aren’t you forgetting the Kentucky Derby Challenge Stakes this very Wednesday in the glamorous floodlit environs of London’s premier racing venue?

Haha! As attractive as it sounds its a decent highlight to the AW week

It’s a decent card on Wednesday. Though AOB would send over some more highprofile 2yos though….
March 15, 2009 at 16:38 #216513These aren’t the definitive trials, and with the slight exception of the Louisiana, some of these will still need to prove themselves in the Santa Anita and Florida Derbies, the Bluegrass and the Wood IMO.
That being said, I’ve seen none of them!
March 15, 2009 at 18:21 #216528Quality Road vs. Dunkirk in a couple of weeks time will be a good race.
Backed Pioneer ofthe Nile the other day – not overly impressed last night but looks astayer in the making

Thats true but Fresian Fire looked awesome last night. Improved with every last stride and was a comfortable 7 length winner over a decent field.
Old Fashioned was caught out last night by a long odds shot!
March 16, 2009 at 02:11 #216670Old Fashioned chased sprint fractions in the Rebel and went out like a light turning for home, the winner did a passable impression of Giacamo, staying on well too run down Old Fashion inside the final furlong.
Fresian Fire slaightered his field on rain softened ground at the fair grounds, he looks Larry Jones Derby horse, he has the breeding and run style too be effective, unlike his stable mate.
Rachel Alexandra slaughtered her field inthe fair grounds oaks, he is a daughter of Medagliadoro ( pardon the spelling, he won the travers on rain softened ground, being a grandson of saddlers wells, the fact his stock like abit of juice doesnt surprise me), this filly looks a monster ad the one horse in the state of their age ground too give Friesan fire a race.
General Quarters ran like a drain when slapped by Musket Man in the tampa bay derby, the winners breeding doesnt have a ten furlong pedigree so frankly its canable form.
Poineer Of The Nile ran useful enough race but hit the front far earleir than he likes, a win is a win.
Given the performance of I Want Revenge last weekend it looks all too play for.
I wasnt that impressed with Dunkirk, he has yet on the whole i have not been in love with the gulfstream up with the pace biase this winter.
March 16, 2009 at 03:59 #216713Shoot me down in flames if you want but has anyone else got the feeling AOB has runners entered in the Kempton Trial at the request of Coolmore so they may have a pacemaker eligible for the Derby for Dunkirk?
March 16, 2009 at 18:05 #216795DRF RACE CHARTS:
San Felipe @ Santa Anita ~ Pioneerof the Nile
http://www.drf.com/drfNCWeeklyHorseDisp … 4&raceNo=4Tampa Bay Derby @ Tampa Bay Downs ~ Musket Man
http://www.drf.com/drfNCWeeklyHorseDisp … &raceNo=11Louisiana Derby @ Fair Grounds ~ Friesan Fire
http://www.drf.com/drfNCWeeklyHorseDisp … 4&raceNo=9Rebel @ Oaklawn Park ~ Win Willy
http://www.drf.com/drfNCWeeklyHorseDisp … &raceNo=10March 17, 2009 at 01:06 #216895Probably, i worry about Dunkirk’s lack of expereince, its a very rough race run on an exstremly fast track. The pace can be brutal similar too the rebel stakes.
The kempton race race is a white elephant…
March 17, 2009 at 02:07 #216913Old Fashioned is a miler at best, he chased sprint fractions and his stamina or lack of it was exsposed.
Fresian Fire and Rachel Alexandra hacked up, they look derby horses, I like Quality Road, not impressed with the inexpereinced Dunkirk. Pioneer Of The Nile looked good when hitting the front way too soon.
March 29, 2009 at 02:01 #219012Dunkirk 2nd to Quality Road in the Florida Derby tonight!
I make it that unless Dunkirk runs elsewhere before the Derby he wont get in?
