She’s in Frankels care but officially trained by Dutrow – rather complex and it’s happened before with an IEAH horse. Glad Frankel has charge of her on a day to day basis mind.
No odds as yet on her Gerald – would want a double figure price at this stage as she might not run, 5yo so any sign of defeat will prompt retirement etc.
January 13, 2009 at 21:26 #203714Its not me, Martin.
I don’t have any pennies spare for October. They’ve all gone on the Champion Hurdle, Grand National, 2000 Guineas, 1000 Guineas and Oaks.
However, a credit card is on the way – I’ve just received my PIN number today.
January 14, 2009 at 03:23 #203822After the Eight Belles tragedy last season, I would be surprised if any trainer ran a valuable filly like Stardom Bound in a race as rough as the Derby. I don’t think they’d have the stomach for it.
I am strong on Pioneer OfThe Nile by Empire Maker. On the Breeders Cup juvenile form, he’s probably got a bit to find on Midshipman, but Pioneer is a May foal who lacked experience that day. He is improving fast and won the Futurity after Santa Anita. No stamina worries either. 25/1 with a few firms is a big price if you ask me.
January 14, 2009 at 06:12 #203848On your other point, AP Indy probably didn’t enjoy the experience, because Australian women are useless at sex; its because they’ve had to put up with Australian men.
Very cute – now back to the corner please.

The Eight Belles tragedy had absolutely nothing to do with her being a filly though. I’d be shocked if it alone was enough to put the likes of Frankel, Baffert and Dutrow off running – I had them down as horsemen. If they’re good enough it doesn’t matter what sex they are.
January 15, 2009 at 00:21 #203989March 18th is the big trial at Kempton.
Will the UK and European flat trainers be taking this race seriously or will it be won by some 65 rated rag.
January 17, 2009 at 03:43 #204546This race is a joke why the hell should some Euro who has won an nongraded white elephant of a race get the nod over a US horse?
The winner should only be allowed too run of they have enough prize money won in group or graded stakes races, period.
As for Stardom Bound, she flyiong over alweather tracks and has never on dirt, sending too one of the best trainers in California for the winter makes sense.
January 17, 2009 at 15:30 #204632I’d keep her with Frankel for sure YP and keep Dutrow as far away from the star as possible.
The Kempton race is just an effort to get more international horses involved and will hopefully come good in 5 or 6 years time when they switch Churchill Downs to an artificial surface (would love a fibresand KY Derby)
January 17, 2009 at 16:20 #204642I’m sure that the Kempton race will be won by a fairly good horse, probably Irish, maybe one of Dermot Weld’s, or a trainer who has previously sent horses over for races such as the Belmont.
I’ve had a look at the number of races on the Kentucky Derby Trail. As I don’t have Attheraces (yet), I think the best way for me to keep a track on what is going on is to buy an exercise book, and write all the results down in it.
January 17, 2009 at 18:05 #204675I’d try and follow it via. http://www.bloodhorse.com and http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com and the racing forum Thoroughbred Champions – normally easy route to see the top performers, results etc.
January 17, 2009 at 23:31 #204771Square Eddie runs tonight at Santa Anita as his first run on the lead up to the Kentucy Derby.
January 17, 2009 at 23:45 #204773Yes, read that, and it rather backs up the idea that we can send something decent over there from the Kempton race.
Stupid, but necessary question: what distance is the Kempton race over?
January 20, 2009 at 02:28 #205246Haven’t done anything yet. Was thinking about Vineyard Haven (what a kicking that would be for dosage 2-0-2-0-0), but then found out he is now trained by Saeed Bin Suroor.

Have to settle for Charitable Man, just to break the ice and make me feel involved in the race. Do I have to open an account with a bookie, or is there a betting exchange that has a market on the Kentucky Durby?
Returning to my earlier question, surely the GOOD horses, who might be aimed at all three legs of the Triple Crown – they won’t be out until the end of Feb, start of March, will they?
January 20, 2009 at 03:39 #205253The late developers will be looking to run in Feb and March (Fountain of Youth and Florida Derby in Florida), Wood Memorial (in April i think) and Arkansas Derby in the Mid-East/NY and then the Santa Catalina, Santa Anita Derby (both on artificial tracks) in California in March time.
They’ll need around 200k at least in graded stakes earnings to get in so if they’ve been winning maidens and allowances at 2 that won’t count – they really do need to place highly in 2 of the above or win one of them.
January 20, 2009 at 04:03 #205255??? Why are you referring to them as late developers? Surely it is the sensible thing to do, if you plan to run in three races, May, Mid May, early June? I can’t see it does any good to be running in mid-January, unless as you say, they need to win the stake money to be eligible in the first place.
January 20, 2009 at 05:11 #205268Well the Derby is traditionally chock full of horses with stakes earnings in August-October of the previous year – the more precocious horses, they’ve won races like the Bashford Manor and the Del Mar Futurity – sprint races in the height of summer and the owners just want a runner in the big one.
The late developers will need to get the 200k+ in graded stakes earnings to get in so will run 3 or 4 times (which is the US norm anyway) in the first half of 2009 up to the end of April.
If I were having a bet based on 2yo form I’d have done it in December on the BC Juvenile winner or the Delta Jackpot winner (both of which would give you enough earnings to get in the Derby on their own).
January 20, 2009 at 23:04 #205414I was looking at the pedigree of Terrain, the disappointing favourite in the Delta Jackpot last night. Did you realise that In Reality shagged his own granddaughter – and that was as recently as 1988. Did we have any of that going on over here, or just in Middlesbrough. You won’t be surprised, the offspring was unraced.
