But he has not (and probably wont i feel) put in a performance as catching as Raven’s Sandown win. And the narrow Craven defeat could look like very good form in the future
April 29, 2008 at 12:05 #160572I am not swayed by anyone – it is Henrythenavigator or bust for mine.
April 29, 2008 at 14:15 #160598Maybe ill be proved wrong…its a tricky race for strong predicitions…but i cannot find a single half decent reason why Henry should be backed. I would be amazed if he was good enough to beat the principles…let alone a few unexposed types

Are you not being swayed by the Ballydoyle hype Machine into backing him?

Yes because Coolmore/Ballydoyle have been so vocal in their bullish comments regarding this horse this year….unlike those quiet men Gosden,Bolger,Godolphin etc…
April 29, 2008 at 15:17 #160610According to Jim McGrath in the Telegraph, Murtagh will ride Henry and Kinane will be on Plan. Jupiter uncertain runner. Not in Racing Post yet, so is this rumour or information?

Aidan – I was merely saying what possible reason could anyone have to back him other than the fact he is a Ballydoyle horse? He has no form which puts him within half a stone of winning. As Clive pointed out, if he was trained by another trainer, he’d be a lot bigger price.
Someone said here re the Guineas (i think 1000 version) that they will back the Ballydoyle horses. Dear god.
April 29, 2008 at 15:50 #160614Yes an awful policy to back a yard (who’s horses are priced 10/1 or bigger) who has won the race 2 out of the last 3 years. Of course if they were trained elsewhere they would be bigger but it is hardly surprising that because they are trained by the Irish & British Champion trainer it is shorter…if there is confidence behind the horse their horse clearly should be respected. Its not as if they are taking 5/4 about a horse is loads to prove, I wouldn’t back their horses myself but its hardly a policy without some merit.
My main irk was regarding the "hype" quote…Henry & Jupiter have not been hyped. The trainer himself has admitted they dont know how good (or bad) Jupiter is given the style of training he is now adopting with his horses at home.
April 29, 2008 at 16:58 #160629Fast Company now OUT of Guineas due to poor blood count.
Jupiter Pluvius price doubled by Totesport.
April 29, 2008 at 21:07 #160653Apparently the Ballydoyle horses were having the final main workout today. How Jupiter Pluvius got on may or may not have affected his price is my guess.

Crazy.
Aidan – I back horses, not yards. Of AOB’s last 2 guineas winners, GW was a different vintage altogether to Henrythenavigator, and the year of Footsteps .. was an awful renewal.
Let’s see. Doesn’t appear he’ll get the fast ground he would need if this rain continues..
April 30, 2008 at 09:19 #160706So you don’t take the yard into account? You would be equally as confident that James Franshaw would have one as ready for the Guineas as Ballydoyle, Stoute etc even though all trends show his horses get better as the season progresses? You wouldn’t question the competency of one trainer over another?
Plenty were question George Washington at the time Sal, question his form in relation to Sir Percy…..he was talked of as the hyped up Ballydoyle colt who’s form was not up to scratch. Like I said Henry has loads of prove, but you getting him at 10/1 plus and for those who have him at 20/1 plus they should feel very happy if (and that’s an if) the ground stays fast he is Ballydoyle’s number 1.

The lesser the race, the more a trainers preference or targeting is relevant. Im not a huge enthusiast for trends but, to an extent, many trainers do have their prefered targets
But this is simply not relevant to the guineas.
The fact that Geroge washington galloped home doesnt alter Henry’s chances one bit
I woudl certainly back against Fanshawe at this stage of the season, but how many top trainers are not capable of readying one for this race?
Its not as if Ballydoyle are quick out the blocks everytime ..as we have seen this season
April 30, 2008 at 09:47 #160710Of course I consider the respective trainers in a race such as the 2000 Guineas … as well as jockeys. However, my point is I feel people here have stated they will back Henrythenavigator simply as he is the Ballydoyle number one. It makes no sense, as he simply does not have the form to win a guineas.
Hence, despite all the ability a trainer such as Aidan O’Brien possesses, and for all that Johnny Murtagh is an excellent big race jockey, I cannot believe that people are willing to back HTN. Nonsensical, imo.
Lemmings is a good word, i believe
April 30, 2008 at 09:53 #160713Did fallons 1st year with ballydoyle start off win a win in both…..what price would you get for JM doing the same……
