I really liked lusail as a 2yo too so the greenham looks a good renewal

Lusail being by mehmas would worry me though, not one I’d be confident will train on

He won the July Stakes and the Gimcrack and has an OR of 113, just 2lb below the other two.

But though he won his Maiden at 7f, he was last of four in the Champagne Stakes and I’ve got my doubts here.

His sire only ever raced as a 2yo, of course.

Is there a chance one or other or both of Godolphin’s top two may be at their very best with a bit of give in the ground? ie Good or softer.

Native Trail’s big improvement came on his last two starts at two, National Stakes and Dewhurst – both on officially Good ground.

Coroebus so impressive in the Autumn Stakes on officially Good going.

Could (I’d say “probably”) just be a coincidence, both progressive and therefore those races coming at the end of their season. However, neither horse has what you might call a top-of-the-ground action.

It won’t be an issue – “top-of-the-ground” has been banned in the UK.

    It’s not safe.

Someone got arrested at the Newmarket Craven meeting for saying “Good to Firm” while wearing a “faster than standard” t-shirt.

He’s expected to get ten years.

He plans to say “I meant only if there’s a tailwind” by way of mitigation at his trial.

For me, Perfect Power is a bigger danger to Native Trail than Coreobus or Luxembourg.

The extra 220yds is the obvious issue, but it’s a myth that the Rowley Mile is a an exacting stamina test.

For me – Perfect Power’s chance is very questionable.
Not sure to stay. Breeding a mixture. Dam stayed 1m2f and dam sire stayed a mile. However, sire Ardad was best at 5f. Stamina is not a matter of sire’s distance plus dam’s distance divided by two. It’s more whatever relation the horse takes after. Perfect Power imo takes much more from his sire, showing plenty of speed… And although Perfect Power stayed 7f well today he wasn’t really going away at the line. ie Not one you’d say who’s form will improve for the step up to a mile.

Second, Lusail wouldn’t be certain to stay either being by 2yo sprinter Mesmas out of another 2yo sprinter (should’ve stayed further at three going by pedigree). But at least Lusail was the finisher today at 7f. Third, Angel Bleu only 1 1/2 lengths and a nose away in a truly run race despite not settling or having the ground he’s thought to like.

Wouldn’t write off the second reversing form, or the third come to that if getting his conditions and settling better… Therefore Perfect Power’s chance cannot be any more than fair in my mind.

I’ve been analysing the Newbury returns this evening.

It’s possible to take the view the proximity of the Greenham fourth holds the form down a little, but the time seems good to me.

It’s on a different level to the Fred Darling but, more pertinently, I feel, it compares well to the Spring Cup, won by OR 105-rated Modern News.

After taking weight carried and weight-for-age into account, and making the 7f/1m adjustments, I have Perfect Power on a decent figure.

But while I could see him finishing second, if as effective over the Rowley Mile, I still think he’s got a job on to trouble Native Trail.

Still 19 in the race – a fair few trainers obviously think the race is more open than the betting might suggest.

I think Point Lonsdale is a good ew price at 14-1 so he’s my selection and I’ve put him in an ew double with Toy as well, in case she runs.

I’m almost in shock one of the top two in the betting haven’t been pulled out to avoid each other……What’s going on? :-)

Interestingly when Native Trail won last time Matt Chapman said to Charlie Appleby that he’s clearly the one to beat so what’s the point of running Coreobus. A little cheeky smile appeared on Charlie’s face and he said its good to go there with two good chances.
