Hey Zarkava – I found my records on this foaling theory – the results are very interesting indeed!
Providing the dates are correct from the Racing Post website I went back to 1987 – that’s when info on dates etc run out.
Here are the number of winners and the months they were foaled :
Jan – 4
Feb – 6
Mar – 9
Apr – 3
May -1
The three foaled in April are:
1987 – Don’t Forget Me – 10th
1993 – Zafonic – 1st
2009 – Sea The Stars – 6thThe one foaled in May:
1992 – Rodrigo De Triano 27th
Just for fun:
There has been one grey winner:
1991 – Mystiko
Three chesnut:
2004 – Haafhd
1992 – Rodrigo De Triano
1989 – NashwanFour brown:
2008 – Henrythenavigator
1999 – Island Sands (b/br)
1993 – Zafonic
1990 – TirolFour were second that were foaled in April:
Snow Ridge @ 8/1 by 1 3/4 to – Haafhd 2004
Zafeen @ 33/1 by 3/4 to – Refuse To Bend 2003
Enrique @ 7/1 by 1/4 to – Island Sands 1999
Lend A Hand @ 8/1 by 1 1/4 to – King Of Kings 1998Four were third foaled in April at odds!
Olympian Oddyssey @ 33/1 to – George Washington 2006
Kandidate @100/1 to – Footstepinthesand 2005
Norse Dancer @100/1 to – Refuse To Bend 2003
Bin Ajwaad @66/1 to – Zafonic 1993As you said some winners were in late March and there were quite a few third that were late March too – make of this what you will people!
Found this statement by Peslier re: ‘Red Desire’ which is a tad confusing due to his attachment to ride ‘Vision’ in the World Cup – it’s certainly not what was being reported after the race on ATR – in which he was meant to have told connections to go the Sheema route!
With the win, Matsunaga now has the option of taking Red Desire to either the 12-furlong Sheema Classic as planned or world’s richest race, the $10-million Dubai World Cup (G1), also to be run at the new Meydan course. His decision has not been officially announced, but indications are he will stick to his original plans and run Red Desire in the G1 Sheema Classic over turf.
Olivier Peslier, who has ridden extensively in Japan, was quoted as saying he felt the filly could take on either race successfully. "Stamina was never an issue as she stays further than this," Peslier said of Thursday’s race, the same distance as the World Cup. "She worked well the other day when I rode her and picked up very nicely. Hopefully, it is the World Cup next," Peslier said.
OleBahram: It was more of a rose tinted recollection of an observation – the ‘Rebel’ being one of my fav Guineas winners.
There’s something great about the underdog that’s unfashionably bred from the small stable – that goes on and beats the power houses and breeding monopolies that take for granted the mopping up of prizes.
As for ‘Arcano’ what are we to make of the Morny form?
Race record time (I think) – but bunched finish and two fillies in the mix – albeit the current fav for the 1000!The fact that Hannon has never had a group 1 or 2 winner in France in 39 years says that too much was expected of ‘Canford Cliffs’ that day.
Also his juvenile runners have lost 34 times in pattern company after a eight week rest – he had a ten week spell.I thought that ‘Zanzibari’ ran a big race as the ground was maybe too quick and the trip way too short – and the fact that he finished so close after struggling to keep up from the start says that the others didn’t have a whole lot left at the end – I think that he’s still with Fabre a big+
Zarkava: Interesting points as ever… ‘Kingsfort’ has gone under the radar – but Godolphin/Dubai and the run from ‘Chabal’ in the Dewhurst???
This early foal stuff would have put many off of ‘Sea The Stars’ last year – he was an April foal – 3rd youngest in the field and quite a bit younger than the other more fancied runners.
I did research after and I think that he was the 2nd youngest winner of the race – clearly shows how special he was…p4jos1 – No chance!

I can recall watching the race on ATR and I don’t know if it was because Peslier was on board or whether it was his come from the back win – but somehow it reminded me of ‘Cockeny Rebel’!

Personally I think Twice Over is probably the bet of the year in this at 8-1 (was 8-1 the other day when i looked anyway). Waitin till after cheltenham to decide how much i’ll stick on that, but dont see him getting beat.
If Twice Over lines up fit and well for this he wins, plain and simple. Watch this space.
That’s a big shout! – 7’s now…
Is that with the flying Nippon – ‘Red Desire’ in the field or not?
If she went here and ‘Buena Vista’ the Sheema Classic then maybe they could double up!
There’s not much between him and ‘Vision’ on Ascot form…think that you need toe to win this on this surface and as Henry said he just gallops.
In the Breeders cup – TP Queally bums him AP McCoy style from a long way out!

This race has always been kind to me and kinda prefer it as a betting medium to the Derby.
‘Remember When’ – (I had my last winner)?! err…

Well that has a nice profile and is in the right stable and if it’s anything like big Dylan well…
Not priced by the books though

One top tip : stay clear of the Oxx Aga fillies – always over bet.

I went through the entries the other day applying the major trends.
Godolphin have an incredibly strong hand purely on the trends. Al Zir, Chabal, Emerald Commander, Kingsfort and Zeitoper are all in the reckoning, although realistically you’d have to say that Emerald Commander and Zeitoper aren’t good/fast enough. Chabal’s also by Galileo, not a speed-inducing enough a sire to win a Guineas.
Elusive Pimpernel, Steinbeck and Workforce are the remaining 3.
Out of the three non-sprinters that you highlighted who did you go for?
Guess you elbowed the Pimpernel having already run over a mile?
Two that keep getting shorter for this or who are kept onside by the Magic Sign are – ‘Gitano Hernando’ and ‘Richards Kid’.
I’d be well disappointed if a well bred class act like ‘Vision D’Etat’ couldn’t better these – even if he is going left handed on the all weather for the first time!

Good question ‘Goldikova’ – you gonna blow out on your debut again?!

Re: ‘Behkabad’ – in France he is thought of as being an Arc hope – as was ‘Beheshtam’.
I doubt that they’ll take another stayer to the Jockey Club when it’s well known that the race suits milers – maybe they’ll just wait ’til the Grand Prix for him?
In ‘Siyouni’ and ‘Dibir’ (at least he wasn’t a big price Gerald)! they have these…
The proximity of ‘Emirates Dream’ – is a bit worrrying…

The second ‘Arasin’ gives a form line to ‘Jan Vermeer’ – but that might not have been his running – wouldn’t be the first to flop at Saint – Cloud!

Andy – It wasn’t me but ‘Euro’ – who said that O’Brien messed up in last years Guineas.
(Ready to be shot down here)
– I didn’t way back then and still don’t rate either of his runners in that – If Punjabi has been called "boring" then what about the ‘Master’ and the ‘Rip’ well he was all hype…forget about a horse with no name – a horse with no trip more like!
I posed the question of whether anyone was worried (diff thread I know) about the trip for ‘Special Duty’ – as I backed her – Euro is confident she’ll hack-a-deemo ± but I wonder if there is another ‘Ghanaati’ in this race??
As for ‘Xtension’ – was he the one to take from the Dewhurst?
‘Fencing Master’ (like ‘Xtension’ might need further) and ‘Steinbeck’ are far less exposed…

After the mess he made of the race last year I wouldn’t be interested in any of AOB’s. Especially as the animals behind SNA in the betting have achieved bugger all.
I’ll be having a small ew on Canford Cliffs but the main event that weekend will be watching Special Duty sluice home in the 1000.
Here’s a thought re: ‘ Special Duty’ – there was talk of her when they had Lord Grimthorpe on Get On about her going for the Prix De L’Abbaye
last year as she had so much speed – trip no issue?Bad news for Mike De Kock as his number 1 hope is out:

Eagle Mountain – retired
Oh – and Vodka for the land of the rising sun…
Hi – some interesting stuff here – can’t wait ’till the flat is back!
Quite liked the run of Fencing Master from the Dewhurst myself…
Just for your info there was a report on friday 5th Mar on the post about how Mendizabal missed out on a five-timer at Deauville.
One of the winners was ‘Dibir’ – here he is and part of the report:
http://www.zeturf.com/en/resultats/1582 … acqueville
FRENCH champion trainer Jean-Claude Rouget landed a five-timer on the all-weather at Deauville on Friday
The most impressive Rouget winner was the Aga Khan’s Dibir, who opened his account in style over 7½f in a three-year-old maiden event. He has been entered in both the Poule d’Essai des Poulains and Prix du Jockey-Club.
Hi to everyone! – It’s my first post on here – so hope that I’ve done this right!

Thanks for the info Adrian – (were you at the track to view all this)?!
Just wondered which of the French posse didn’t look like they had taken the trip too well? – as you say most of them looked great?
Cheers…
