All well at Sha Tin this morning. Although cold and overcast it didn’t rain – unlike the previous two days.
Lots of horses working on the turf today and Spanish Moon successfully did a stalls test.
I thought Youmzain went particularly well on the turf this morning as he tracked Buccellati in a piece of work.
The French mostly looked great and we heard that Gerald Mosse will replace the suspended Christophe Lemaire on the Aga Khan’s horses.
Of the non-Europeans California Flag worked well and I thought the Japanese mare Queen Spumante was really fit and attractive.
Jockeys competition at Happy Valley this evening and then the draw tomorrow after track work.
December 9, 2009 at 13:03 #262938Hi to everyone! – It’s my first post on here – so hope that I’ve done this right!

Thanks for the info Adrian – (were you at the track to view all this)?!
Just wondered which of the French posse didn’t look like they had taken the trip too well? – as you say most of them looked great?
Cheers…
December 9, 2009 at 13:34 #262941Thanks for the update Adrian.
Queen Spumante is a top priced 20/1
December 10, 2009 at 10:27 #263126Any thoughts on the draw gents?
December 10, 2009 at 14:37 #263178December 11, 2009 at 05:59 #263313big positive for Presvis in SCMP today.
Murray Bell also makes an occasional return, noting Queen Spumante:
as a side-bar, Wesley Ward’s Cannonball while in HK is in the training hands of Declan Murphy (the former US flat jockey rather than the former UK jump jockey):

the interesting bit is in this piece about US Declan’s bloodstock activities:

…Cormac McCormack is one of the industries most well known bloodstock agents. Cormac’s impressive resume of top purchases includes the likes of multiple group 1 winning performers Mr. Brooks and Never Say Bold. Cormac resides in the U.K<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
it couldn’t be…..could it ?
December 11, 2009 at 08:31 #263321Can anybody tell me when the betting pools will be open for business. Checking the odds on the website there is no activity currently and unless I’m completely mistaken I remember the pools being open this time last year.
Thanks
December 11, 2009 at 11:30 #263343as with most totes, the hkjc pools don’t get too meaningful until day of race.
you’ll find quotes there to small money the day before racing, usually at 17:00 onwards HK time (which is also when selling on the fixed-odds jockey challenge commences) – ie 09:00 UK time on Saturday.

on saturday most of the local money in the OTBs will be for football from the European premier leagues, particularly the UK premiership, most of which is shown live in HK.
aussie bookies iasbet are pretty geared up on HK racing all year round and offer in effect odds-tracking of the win and place hk pools, for those without direct access to the originals in terms of actual staking rather than information:

if you have access to a simulcast pool that may of course offer additional options on prices.
hkjc has confirmed the following overseas simulcast / viewing arrangements :
December 12, 2009 at 00:30 #263472the international handicappers give their picks:
December 12, 2009 at 04:49 #263489early tote prices now showing in HK, but only to a GBP 2k -3k total win pool in each international race:
December 12, 2009 at 06:50 #263490I’m wild with excitement. It is a fantastic way to close the international racing season – a meeting truly deserving of its cosmopolitan status.
December 12, 2009 at 09:41 #263500A few spots of rain at trackwork this morning but the ground will still ride pretty fast come tomorrow.
The Alain de Royer Dupre team all cantered nicely on the all-weather and seem to be coming together well. I think he fancies Ashalanda and Daryakana the most having had lunch with him yesterday.
I thought Eagle Mountain looked much improved when working nicely against the rail, under Kevin Shea, on the All-weather this morning – he looks much fitter and keener than even a week ago.
Obviously there has been a scare with Vision d’Etat and they could only ride him round the menage today. His problems are well reported on the Racing Post site. I don’t think lack of a gallop will make a difference at this late stage but obviously a worry that he has topass the vets in the morning. It would encourage me to have a little bet on Presvis though if the price is right.
I’ll be updating people via ATR tomorrow when I’ll be doing a preview and also post race updates/interviews from the track.
December 13, 2009 at 06:26 #263628Betting suspended just before the off with VC Bet good thing I placed my bets yesterday
December 13, 2009 at 06:36 #263630Top stuff as always Adrian – only just seen your post but backed all three of his fillies. Encouraged by his comments in the RP about Sweet Hearth – personally think she’s an absolute machine at her best, see nothing to think that the defeat of Goldikova shouldn’t be taken at face value, she didn’t swoop late or come from off the pace like Varenar did or come down the far side of the track etc. She was a monster price at 33’s.
