Donald McCain is a fine trainer and he will have the horse spot on for The Champion Hurdle. He acts on the track and will live the strong pace imo and I reckon he will do it.

I don’t like the changes which look and feel manufactured for the sake of it but I have to admit to never being a Morning Line fan.

It has always been and still is dominated by ego. If you are driven to be in front of a camera I guess you have a big ego, which unfortunately gets in the way of the horses and racing.

The only time I have ever seen racing features presented in a way where the subject matter has come first is the days of Julian Wilson on the BBC.

The BBC was so important in gaining a new audience for racing as viewers chanced upon the sport during their everyday viewing.

The Morning Line is preaching to the converted.

I honestly thought he would find this year a real toughy and expected more from Imperial Commander – even if he is better left-handed but I was left speechless by a faultless display. Paul Nicholls feels he had never been better and I think we witnessed true greatness – what a horse who gives so much pleasure.

Kauto Star was surely shattered at Haydock being unexpectedly pushed all the way to the line by a young pretender who ran a cracker. But for fiddling the second-last, Imperial Commander would have won the race and surely Kauto will strip fitter – he was blowing very hard afterwards. I prefer not to reduce the sport to speed figures as so much happens within a race and the pace or galloping speed is dictated by many factors. It was a very good run, as the pair were a long way clear of some good horses who just couldn’t keep up, but surely after he recovered from his exertions in that season opener on soft ground, Kauto lost a few kilos but had his lung capacity extended by a small percentage. Overall though, he cannot be improving at this stage of his career, while his rival does seem to be on an upward curve and one thing may cancel out the other. Promises to be amazing – aren’t we lucky?

This year’s fantastic race just shows how Kauto Star was under the weather last year. The way he demolished Neptune Collonges and Exotic Dancer – consistent performers imo -provided that. Clearly big Denman was not at his peak after just one race in 12 months which means we still don’t know which is the best horse. Kauto Star has been on the go a long time and may have declined by next year’s race and so we may never know who on their day was the best. I reckon Kauto’s record of big-race wins will be superior to his stablemate when we look back in future years. We should rejoice in having them both in the same era with one Gold Cup apiece. It’s a reminder of the Coe/Ovett years.

I think I must have an account with them all and it’s much of a muchness to me. I like BWin for football but they are an overseas bookie and just don’t do racing which is a great shame imo.
Of the UK ones I like Coral best for telephone credit and use their service with commentary,
