Congrats for a good call on Gufo at a nice price, ID.
That’s two years in a row that he’s won this race. I still can’t figure out as why Broome was such a short-priced favorite? Maybe it’s the “O’Brien factor”. He’s totally adored in the U.S….
Disappointed with Jackie’s Warrior’s defeat, but the winner ran a race of his life in a very fast time for 7F. Perhaps, as stated above, Jackie was “softened up” early. He likes to be in the lead and dictate the pace…
Was happy to see Jack Christopher redeem himself. I think we could be in for a real treat in the BC Sprint if both, Jackie’s Warrior and Jack Christopher, end up running there…
No doubt, Epicenter now has established himself as a top 3-yo colt in North America. The Breeders’ Cup Classic is slowly shaping up to be a real “classic” this year.
Arguably, Nest could be considered as one of the top 3-yo fillies in North America, however there’s a filly in Canada, Moira by Ghostzapper, who won Canada’s premier race the Queen’s Plate over 10F at Woodbine a week ago in the fastest time in the 163-runnings of this race! Connections are considering a couple of options over the turf in the U.S. for her next engagement. Keep a lookout for her…
I must say, that I’m really looking forward for the remainder of the year as there’s some really exciting races to come on both siders of the Atlantic. Specifically, I’m looking towards some of the two-year-old races as there have been some terrific performances with likes of Little Big Bear in Europe and a few at Saratoga’s summer meet. Perhaps, the National, the Dewhurst and BC Juvenile races will provide a further glimpse into what could be a very bright 2023 and beyond…
Perhaps we will see him in the next Olympics – in the dressage competition!
“Sprint sires won’t ‘become dominent’.
There have been sprint sires through the ages without being detrimental to The Derby.”Whether or not sprint sires become a detriment to The Derby is not the real issue. My understanding of the real issue mentioned above is that given the focus by breeders on speed in recent years, there will be “far fewer Guineas winners” running in The Derby. In my view, that’s a very valid argument; i.e. more emphasis will be placed on winning the Guineas than on winning The Derby (not both)…
Thanks, FF. I just don’t understand this move. The colt wins the Cox Plate and PoW and they rather cut back in distance to win Le Marois instead of going for one of the world’s most prestigious 10F races? They must be ducking Baaeed and/or Mishriff???
“With Prince of Wales winner state of rest also coming back in trip…”
Has this been confirmed by the connections? Appears that he’s also in the betting for the Juddmonte Stakes 3 days later…
Congratulations to the winning connections, particularly W. Buick who rode a trouble-free, terrific race. Good start, placing him just behind the leaders and moving at the right time at business end. Much the best rider and horse on the day. Although the official rating was “Good” that’s no excuse for any other runner. According to Classic Causeway’s jockey, he ran his race, no excuses and he simply got beat. As far as Annapolis, being by War Front, his limitations were exposed; he’s maxed out at 8F-9F…
The final leg of this “Turf Triple” switches back to Belmont for the Jockey Club Derby Invitational over 12F. The winner last year was Yibir on the way to his victory in BC Turf. Could Nations Pride follow in the same footsteps?…
Well, that was some performance no doubt. He looks “unbeatable” at 7F-9F range. However, I would love to see the match-up between him and Flightline over 8 or 9 furlongs. That would be some spectacle!…
I agree with those thinking that he ought to be running next in the National followed by the Dewhurst. The connections successfully followed this route a few years ago with Air Force Blue; Phoenix>>National>>>Dewhurst…
Congrats to the winners! What a performance, thrashing a quality field. Should get 7F without breaking a sweat!
Intriguing race this one, and difficult for me to handicap in the context of pace. So many possibilities here with presence of Hot Rod Charlie who will be wearing blinkers for this first time since last year. When he does, he guns for the lead and can carry his speed a long way as he demonstrated in last year’s Belmont Stakes over 12F…it took a good horse (Essential Quality) to beat him…
LIG has exceptional speed (7F/8F) and seemingly 9F is his max limit. However, when they both met in the Dubai World Cup (10F) in March, HRC finished well ahead of LIG. Looking at the replay, LIG was done at about the 8F mark. If there’s a speed duel, then I suspect Olympiad and/or Happy Saver will be coming late…
The third scenario is that LIG leaves on top, the others give him too much respect without any serious challenge and it’s adios amigos!
If there’s significant amount of rain, then look for Americanrevolution who has the best form on wet surface…
Good Luck!
Blackbeard.
So far this No Nay Never colt has had a busy campaign as this will be his 7th start in 4 months. Supported him at Ascot where he ran respectful 4th. Next time out he just missed at the Curragh but later redeemed himself in France.
BTW, does anyone anticipate that potentially next year’s 2000G winner could come out of this race? So much talent here. Probably the best 2-year olds on the Continent!
GT,
As reported by the BBC,
“He (Ayman al-Zawahiri) was killed in a counter-terrorism operation carried out by the CIA in the Afghan capital Kabul on Sunday…”
It wouldn’t surprise me at all if the Taliban tipped-off the CIA of his whereabouts. After all, it’s no coincidence that the drone strike had occurred at the time the US and Taliban were in the midst of negotiations worth $billions in previously “frozen” reserves…
Plausible…
Nice spot, ID!
Perhaps we may see her again prior to BC, in a prep race like the Debutante (G1) over 7F also at Del Mar in September…
Purwell, could this be the wider conflict you are referring to?
“Senior Biden administration officials are working with Taliban leadership on a mechanism to allow Afghanistan’s government to use its central bank reserves to deal with a severe hunger crisis without giving the former militant group free rein, aiming to avert a humanitarian disaster that aid groups estimate could harm millions, according to three people briefed on the matter…”

Spot on. GT!
However, let’s hope that this act is only an isolated one and it doesn’t turn into a wider conflict…
In my view, the free and democratic world is paying close attention to this leadership race and hoping that the new leader has the leadership qualities, the “resolve” if you will, to deal with the evil that has been unleashed in Europe and one that is lurking in the Asia-Pacific region.
The free and democratic world has always looked up to British leadership, such as Churchill during WWII, to lead them out of darkest times and also like M. Thatcher, who along with Ronald Reagan, brought down the “Iron Curtain”.
Which of the two current hopefuls has such qualities? Or, when evil looks them in the eye, will they cower and put their tail between their legs and run for the highest ground?
