Did anyone see Blackbeard pre race
Not great for the jockey but was lovely to watch. Never seen it before
Un Des Sceaux was doing similar after winning the Arkle
Is it just the horse playing games or is there more to it?

    I’ve just seen it.

It’s a little-known fact that I am a world-renowned equine psychiatrist and in my considered opinion Blackbeard is, and I hope this medical jargon doesn’t confuse anyone: “mad as an F ing balloon.”

I thought at one point he was about to roll, or maybe thought he was supposed to be at a rodeo. I wouldn’t want to be the rider!

For those who haven’t seen it (note that he tries to bite one of the stalls handlers too!)

Thanks for that Tonge, wondered what this trait might be.
Have seen this before and it certainly is not a good sign for his future.
Many horses “dig” but this is more than just digging.
Owners are usually good at naming their horses and this “Blackbeard” may be a horse of similar “qualities” to his namesake. Dam sire Born At Sea, don’t know about that but Blackbeard was a man born to the sea with a fearless rogue image. Would not be surprised if this temperamental trait in Blackbeard gets worse in time. Could be throwing his jockey off by the end of his three year old career.

I expect Coolmore hope to add Blackbeard to their team of stallions – but why would anyone in their right mind what to breed from this lunatic?

Then again, O’Brien said he behaves more like a filly than a colt…

Dad’s A Loony, Dad Thinks He’s A Girl, the politically incorrect first crop naming options will be legion.

“I thought at one point he was about to roll”

Yep- if you ever ride a horse into water or onto soft sand and it starts doing this then keep its head up and kick on! (Unless you have no saddle and are riding it on a headcollar and lead rope or very cheap bridle in which case you can hop off and let it enjoy itself)

I’m not gonna lie – the odds against me ever needing to deploy this no doubt excellent advice are, err, lengthy.

For sure, I’ve had fair warning over this and that’s a FACT!
