RUK for £20 a month with live action most days compares well with Boxnation for £10 a month with a live card once a week or so
Would be nice if RUK started broadcasting in HD though
ATR lost Exeter , Perth and Kelso earlier this year, will lose Folkestone and Hereford soon and then Ascot so gradually RUK are becoming the dominant broadcaster in terms of courses and quality of racing shown.
I thought the comment about PN being unable to pronounce his name correctly to be bordering on the childish.
Also the 350 off time will be in darkness from November through to most of January and a big race run in the gloom of winter won’t be much good.
I think they did say this wouldn’t happen during these months because as you say it would be too dark. Still as everyone has said the arrogance of this chap to believe that every football fan will think "ooh its 3:50 I must switch over and see the big race of the day on Channel 4" is insane and totally laughable. Even today’s Daily Mail said the changes to C4’s coverage are being advertised to a highly sceptical audience. Apparently C4 want to be first in line for interviews with winning connections before all other types of media. That idea is bound to go down like a lead balloon
Surely they should be making the programme a must see for the whole 2 1/2 hours or if the point is just the big race at 350 why bother with the rest ?
So far it doesn’t inspire any confidence.
Can’t see the point of the big race going off at 350 so it fits in with the football half times, there is no live football on TV on Saturdays and not sure why a racing programme has to take football into consideration.

Come off it. RUK did look in to both rides. They didn’t over-play the situation or ignore it. Their experts came to a different decision than you, big deal. Jacob got the punishment he deserved, no more, no less.
There’s a pedestrian pathway line in the turf 100 yards out at Wincers (I’ve seen it myself). This can look (to a jockey with his head down) like the finishing line. So Yeats, if you had your way and jockeys were made to ride out to the line, it would’ve made no diference. ie Jacob thought the path was the line so stopped riding for a half a second. Race result wasn’t changed by Jacob’s error.
Fortune’s horse pulled hard during the race, unable to lead. Not surprisingly after being too free early found little for quite severe pressure in the straight. Fortune putting his whip down to push his mount out in the final strides. Although in those last few metres wasn’t as hard on his horse as the jockey who got up on the line for third; it could be argued Fortune was trying far harder than his rival earlier in the straight. He did not stop riding. Not all horses find the same amount for the whip. This yet another occasion when punters believe a jockey is trying harder the more often he/she hits the horse in the closing stages.
It took an hour for the RUK ‘experts’ to discuss the Jacobs ride despite showing several replays straight after the race. I was amazed that neither Machin, Neesom or McNae saw something as obvious as Jacobs dropping his hands or thought it worthy of discussion until the stewards had dished out a 10 day ban.
10 day ban for Jacobs and RUK finally get round to discussing it, seems replays of previous races just shown are a priority
Hopefully the weather won’t interfere with the race as it’s one of my favourites too
Did you have a good day at Towcester?
Ended up going to Warwick on Wednesday instead as it seemed easier to get to via public transport.
Quite a nice course and a decent view from the upstairs part of the grandstand apart from when they go behind the hill and you can watch that on the large screen anyway.
Warwick is a nice course although, as you point out, having a hill in the middle of the course does bugger things up slightly but at least they have a big screen so you can still follow the action and also there are no fences or hurdles hidden behind the hill.
The view is good from the upper level of the grandstand – it’s where I watch the racing from.
If you are thinking of going to Towcester in the future drop me a PM beforehand – I go to almost all the Towcester meetings and I live in Milton Keynes – I could give you a lift to / from the course.
Thanks, very nice of you to offer

The 89 bus goes from Milton Keynes Station (stand Z4)
Hourly service leaving the Central Station at 26 minutes past the hour, return service from Towcester Square at 21. Travels via Potterpury and Pury End before Towcester so I presume it passes the course on the A5. If not, it’s not too far from the centre of Towcester to the course.

Was a shambles on Friday and nothing was done then , hopefully something will be done before any other races are ruined.
