Paul Nolan speaking about Joncol.
Agree with
Anak
, thought he was very impressive at Ballinrobe. He has juvenile hurdler written all over him. Presumably the horses-in-training sales beckon.
Alaivan
is another that would be very interesting
A dark one here.
Cross Appeal
trained by Noel Meade. Owned by John Corr who has owned the likes of Aran Concerto and Moscow Express. Throw
Morning Time
into the bargin also.
She has also acquired
Court Red Handed
(impressive when landing an Irish point for PJ Colville) and
Gus McCrae
who was reportedly Cheltenham Bumper material prior to his bumper debut.
I expect these two horses to make their mark given the promise they have already shown along with the trainers obvious ability to get the best out of her charges with limited supply.
Does anybody know if there is an assistant / advisor in the background?
Machin is arguably the most improved commentator in recent times. Add to that presenter also, he is a natural at his job. Keeps things simple unlike some on RUK……himself and Sam Turner make an ordinary card -interesting.
Is this the Jacqueline Malone that has has had quite a few different jobs in the last number of years? Beautiful looking girl in fairness. Howard Wright seems to give her a mention every time she jumps ship. Listening to her on RUK, her knowledge of betting is very limited and with a better interviewer she would have been exposed very easily. Kate Miller, William Hill’s new addition speaks very well, knows her stuff and has the background to boot.
Encouaging run from Katchit but how he can still be considered a possible champion hurdle winner is beyond me. Choc was niggling him to hold his position mid race. Todays race tells us one thing……Sizing Europe is very much the dark horse of this years 2 mile division.
While it was obvious Sublimity will come on for his seasonal debut, he once again illustrated that tendency to display an awkward head carriage, something which would have to be a concern should he have to battle next March.
On what basis is Katchit open to improvement? His level of ability is well known. He was an exceptional 4 year old but taking on older horses is a totally different matter which he and Detroit City both illustrated.
Osana is the likely fly in the ointment in my opinion. 2nd to very progressive Sizing Europe in Greatwood, conceding 6lb to the winner on what was a very encouraging seasonal debut. His novice form is being over looked by most.
Sublimity is a worthy favourite. He appears most effective on undulating courses so not surprising his seasonal bow is made back at the scene of his famous victory. I am of the opinion that people underestimate Sublimity because of connections decision not to run the gelding prior to or following his champion hurdle victory.
It would be great to see Macs Joy land it but he appears the most exposed of the top rated hurdlers. I cannot have Katchit, was much superior to quite a moderate bunch of juvenile hurdlers last season and is simply not good enough judging by his Newcastle performace. Afsoun is likely to struggle for pace and there is a possibility he will be feeling the effects from a hard race behind Hardy Eustace.
Verdict: Osana E/W
Exactly, racing similar to any event allows companies to enhance their brand objectives. However, larger companies dedicate a sizable chunk of their promotional budget to racing because of the industries ability to meet corporate objectives thus improving corporate culture etc etc.
Where race selection is concerned, brand values and strategic fit determine what races to attach the companies brand to. Aspects such as event type, event characteristics and individual factors impact how us punters and those furthur afield percieve an event.
Racecourses then allow sponsors to leverage their sponsorship in different ways……race titles, ticket allocation, branding. The main sponsor of the meeting gets priority obviously.
Depending on the event sponsor put forward between 30% – 40% of the overall prize money. I would always have been of the opinion that benefits accruing from race sponsorship, outweigh benefits accruing from other event sponsorships, when the level of investment required is taken into consideration.
Removing the Peterborough from Huntingdon would without doubt take from the race. It highlights further the impact that the bonus schemes are having. An example is the Fighting Fifth, firmly established within the racing calender, however, I doubt the horses being primed for next Saturdays event would be heading north minus WBX’s bonus.
Reverting the Peterborough back to a Thursday fixture is a possible solution…..attendances then become an issue. Or possibly a link with another significant mid week fixture, Exeter’s Haldon Gold Cup could be established?
Those within the marketing and communications area of horse racing in Britain need to become far more innovative. Where a competitive market exists one has to step back and differentiate. Not enough of this been done and far too much of an emphasis on marketing racing as a betting medium.
Admittedly, the levy is the largest source of revenue but as the sixth largest industry in Britain surely far more oppertunities exist, or existed in fact?
