Theyve put them together because C4 are only showing Friday and Saturday of the Leger meet so the course have moved the best races to those two days

Donny could have done with a classic St Leger to reopen what do people think of the other big races at the meet?

    Hi all,

Last week I defended ATR when a fellow forumite criticised ATR and Luke Harvey, and I feel I was justified in defending them.

But I can’t defend the poor performance I have just seen. The 3:00 at Wolverhampton has just ran, the camera panned across all the stalls when the race started and you could clearly see that Danish Blues refused to race, in fact it stayed in the stalls and never moved.

    1. The commentator (John Hunt) failed to spot this and never told anyone of the situation. Let me remind you this was the 2nd favourite and would/should have been one of John’s main horses to concentrate on – so to not spot it wasn’t even in the race was very poor. But I am sure John doesn’t need telling this.

    2. Sir Bob, who was on course, summed up the race by saying that he was very disappointed with the performance of Danish Blues, saying it just never showed. Yes, I know it never showed lol, but Sir Bob was talking in the sense that he was of the impression that it had ran. Very poor indeed.

It was exactly 6 minutes later, when they handed back to Matt in the studio that Matt told Sir Bob and the viewers that the horse never ran as it failed to come out of the stalls. I would guess that 95% of the viewers spotted this as soon as it happened, yet here with have one of the Countries leading commentaors, and one of the countries leading broadcasters failing to spot it. Very poor indeed in my opinion.

    Mike

ps: I am not talking out of my pocket as I put Danish Blues up in my placepot. I am talking facts with regards to the events that unfolded, and then have added my opinion that it was a very poor performance on the commentators and Sir Bob’s part.

To be fair to Luke he did alright yesterday in the booth so I will see how he goes, I used to love betting on Paddy Power through my digital tv liked their concessions but I hardly bet with them now since they withdrew it. Does anybody use Blue Sq through their set top box im getting sick and tired everytime i press the confirm button when betting and it says price has changed (as they use their own prices but thats another story) and you have to go back and do the bet again and its changed again usually fluctuates from eg a point all the time eg 5-1, 9-2 then back to 5-1 and 9-2 again my record on trying to place the bet is 10 times why cant they stick to the same prices as everyone else

Apparently Cashmans gave punters money back but as Chapman said how many people bet with them.

Strange i wanted to watch the race again but oh dear the atr video link of the 3.00 doesnt appear to be working

    Clivex,

When Channel 4 first came on air, Channel 4 racing, along with Countdown, was one of it’s main ratings winners. I think in the early day’s Channel 4 Racing was only shown during the week, while ITV’s Saturday show, ‘World Of Sport (with Dickie Davies) still showed the weekend racing – do you remember the ITV 7 bet incidentally lol.

Anyway, when World Of Sport ceased, Channel 4 Racing then took over blanket coverage of the racing that was allowed for ITV/Channel 4 and audiences were very impressive.

Again, I am not certain, but I would be willing to bet on it, that i’m sure I read somewhere that 20 years later (current day) Channel 4 Racing has lost almost half the viewers it had back then.

I would love someone who knows for certain to clarify this though.

    Mike

    A quote from bbc.co.uk:
The Grand National re-run, shortly after the big race, was watched by 5.1 million people, almost four times as many people as watched the Cheltenham Gold Cup live on Channel Four in March.

Daft you may think it is but its generated four pages of replies in a day which is what the point of the forum is to get people talking, anyway I meant where is the star either a nice guy who the public loves or a bad boy who the public will love at the moment there isnt really either in racing.

If Ryan Moore, Jamie Spencer, Tony McCoy were nominated for Sports Personality of the Year would they win, would the public vote for them over other sport stars.

How many times has McCoy quite rightly been nominated and never won.

Perhaps sadly the most famous person or horse in racing currently is John McCririck. Most people would say Frnakie Dettori first probably or "that loud fat man from Channel 4 and big brother".

Sad to think hes more famous than most jockeys or horses

I disagree most people go racing for a day out now which is now drink fuelled look at Goodwood yesterday poor John Hunt having to battle to commentate over some women who were pissed next to the commentary box before the first race had begun. If Newmarket and others didnt have some desperate for publicity pop star like Ronan Keating or an x factor contestant playing after racing would there be as many people go.

Betting shops dont make a profit from horses anymore they need game machine and virtual racing the sport needs a face the public can asscoiate with.

Not just racing though at the England game last week half the seats were empty at start of 2nd half becuase people were still in the hospitlaity areas so perhaps its just modern society who just care for food and lots of drink
