my brains not fully sobered up yet so is running slow but what’s RSB ?

granny peel looks a solid play at the price to me and if spectait wins will be running at 4/1 as well for me as leg 3 of a treble

mubtaker is a rude price imo, but i’ll not play it – cd be kicking meself in a min tho

i generally draw the line at sire/dam – i understand the saying you can’t have too much information but i don’t have too much time or the desire to force myself into playing with stuff i consider marginal and wonder about the relevance of going too far back sometimes.  they say stats never lie but where i come from you can make stats say whatever you want to, too ;)

i’m beginning to think you may be a member of flat stats or some such other thing ;) either that or you have created the db to end dbs

the imperialistic race was crossed off my list of playing races as soon as i saw it – couldn’t back it and won’t lay it – don’t like coin-toss races

definitely not a silly idea.  it is good information but probably just not very useful for such an iffy race.  if i’m looking for big priced unraceds in maidens i’ll be encouraged if sire/dam/siblings have gone on the ground before and i like to use this when needing to pass the time between punting races.

a better example would be the 4.20 at leicester – will granny peel go on the ground ?  whilst it’s sire redback (who’s having a fair start with it’s 2yos) had all it’s wins on good going or better, it didn’t ‘not’ perform on softer going.  it’s dam bacchanalia also won her only race on soft ground.  granny peels only previous run on g-s (probably more good) can be ignored for the shenanigans and while i think wolves polytrack is slower than lingfield and therefore slower than g-f, the horse ain’t got reliable form on the soft – so the sire and dam’s performances on soft gives me some encouragement as i already had granny peel down as the winner.

where’s your lays gone ? – put em in the lays and plays section as i find it good to read opinions on races i haven’t looked.  i might not always agree with em but this is what this forum is for, isn’t it ?

it’s information you can’t ignore when you have nothing much else to go on.  i’ll look at the sire and dam going form as well as siblings but as already said, it’s never enough in risky races where there is no real form to go with.  for me, looking at sire form preference for this sort of race would be like desperately trying to find a reason to lay or play in a race that should be avoided, unless one knows differently.

i think cav okay will beat the fav and a bet on the outside 2 however small is a waste of funds imo, but gl with it.  no bet race for me.

granny peel has it for me and is a win bet and the closing leg of a treble for me.

i ruled top bid out as it ain’t an odds on shot for me and i think thats a poor race.

the afric star race didnt make my short list so won’t be looking closely at it.

christmas tart has the form for me and i think the ground will suit and think it will win – too many ifs for su doku imo.  win bet and leg 1 of the treble.

couldn’t get interested in the no worries yet race either.

spectait is my 3rd win bet and the middle leg of the treble for me.

i’ve just knocked moody tunes and stagecoach diamon off my shortlist after much perusal and will be sticking with the 3 win bets, 2 at 8/13ish and granny peel a bit of a steal at 10/11 i think.  treble would pay about 4/1

    good luck

yes good luck tomorrow, that looks like a pretty competitive maiden for that sort of race at lingfield.  the form tells me it’s between the likely fav and 2nd fav, storm on the run and leopoldine but the other unraced horses look interesting too and i wouldn’t be overshocked if the 4yo won if it is fit and recovered.  the rest of the one’s to have raced don’t interest me at all.  but then what do i know, i couldn’t pick a winner there yesterday !

p.s., tell the rider not to lead into the straight or get stuck on the rail, it wasn’t good to be doing that yesterday – definitely faster 2 or 3 off the rail, imo.

good luck again with what should be a damn good e-w price

for me it is as said before, a mixture of both.  i do not need to make a profit as it is a hobby/pastime so if i can break even, it is cheaper than playing golf.  however i have gained much enjoyment at the races (at lingfield mostly) without having any significant bet if i couldn’t see anything – a placepot and a day out and a bit of banter works for me.  then again i’ve felt much satisfaction lumping on and winning.  i guess it’s mostly the enjoyment and as also said before , the money is a scorecard of how you’re doing with the game you’re playing and is a good motivator to play it better.

kempton polytrack is different to lingfield but they all will be different to lingfield as lingfield has been down for ages now and is totally worn in and easily the fastest of the aw tracks – you can’t duplicate years of wear.  kempton polytrack and wolves polytrack are very similar though imo, both in times and make up – plenty more kickback at wolves and kempton, though i think not quite as pronounced at kempton.  as far as i am concerned i am equating kempton and wolves polytracks as equal for comparisons, only the finish being majorly different. i am sure the similarity between kempton and wolves surfaces was a plus point for hail the chief last night too, together with the longer run-in.

EC, i am in total agreement.  aw racing can be nicely profitable if you put the time in – you sure don’t have to worry as much about whether the ground is soft, rock or indifferent and you can equate form across the tracks and more to the point – why moan – agreed, it achieves nothing positive and only encourages others who want to pick holes in racing, to see racing picking holes in itself.  you don’t see fly fishers moaning at carp fisherment, telling them they’re boring and it’s like shooting fish in a barrel – they seem to understand the principal of looking for the positives rather than the negatives.  it’s all a question of outlook i suppose, is your glass half full or half empty ?  maybe it’s cos i’m getting old…

hold on RD, granted there is a much more diverse mix of tracks for the turf but there would be with over 50 of ’em but there are also many that are quite similar too. the 4 aw tracks are not all the same tho, wolves and southwell may be similar shape flat ovals but they have very different surfaces, kempton is a stretch oval with a good 3F finishing straight and this does make a nice difference imo and lingfield is nothing like an oval and has gradients and runners have a testing corner into the straight coming down the hill – far from a flat  oval.  i do agree it would be nice to see different designs tho but you’re right, most aw tracks will probably be built to the same design but you never know, someone might get adventurous one day – different is better than all the same, for sure.  i guess i’m too easily pleased but tracks like kempton and lingfield close together means i’ll always have some good local racing regardless of the weather.
