only mentioned ascot as they race the same day. maybe as aintree the next day is about to lose its slot on the bbc they should have aintree on the saturday instead and run the betfair chase there along with the becher/grand sefton chases. what a card that would be.
what is going to happen to the welsh national after the last bbc one next year? will have to go back to an old saturday slot on ch4? also can the becher chase sunday at aintree survive with no tv at all?
a thousand apoligies to all monkerhostin fans,a major senior moment from me and i was there in person too
i actually prefer bbc to ch4 nowadays because they actually show live pictures in the paddock unlike ch4 seem to. also having richard dunwoody on the team is a big plus for me its nice to watch someone who knows his subject unlie rishi persad who gives the impression he knows sweet f.a about national hunt racing.
i see from the kempton king george guide that it will cost a whopping £30 to get in the grandstand on boxing day, also on the front page of the gudie it shows a picture of people in the resturant watching a all weather race on the tv with a packed crowed outside. can anyone confirm that this picture hasent been doctored and there actually was a all weather meeting when more that 100 people turned up?
if only you could have got to chepstow back in the 90s before northern racing wrecked the place.
at least we got to see plenty of live pictures of the horses before the arc unlike the way ch4 seems to cover big races now.
i thought i would never find myself saying that bbc racing is now better than ch4! why has ch4 dumbed down so much to be a terristrial sis?yes the winners of the recent king george,s are high class horses but you only have to look at the depth in quality of the runnings in the 80s and 90s to see that it is now become just another group one race.
for me the race was at its best when the derby winner ran in it and its now 7 years since thats happened, maybe a 1million bonus could be put up to any horse that does the derby/king george double?
its a sad sight when owners stick their nose up at a 850,000 race,im sure thats why ascot still cant find a sponsor.
as the decline as happened during the coolmore domination of flat racing, perhaps they are to blame?
i remember in 1990 sheikh mohammed ran his best 3-y-0 BELMEZ to beat his best older horse OLD VIC. would coolmore ever do that?how on earth is halcon genarlardais ment to win off a mark of 169?
given that so many horses have come back from the finale meeting at sandown with tendon injurys why not finish the jumps season with a bang on national day then the flat season could start the following week.
i will be amazed if in the next five years the festival isnt run on the saturday. ch4 will be happy if it happen as they dont semm to like interupting their weekday programmes.
while on the subject, does anyone know the name of the music they play in the back ground during big race parades on ch4?
i thought i read somewhere its from the film mystic river but have scaned through the soundtrack album on hmv and its not on there.
id love to know as would like to use it at my wedding this yearits been a total pleasure watching those races again and was a reminder how good racing on the bbc was in those days
i notice that the prize money for the feature chase hase slumped from £100,000 to £65,000
think that the ground was almost on the fast side played a part in the falls yesterday.
lets hope that at cheltenham they get the groud right or it could be more of the samegreat to see that the 3 mile handicap chase as returned to being a open handicap instead of a 0-145. well done sandown
along with dempsey , revilliez and arcalis thats 4 top horses with leg injurys from the sandown finale meeting.
