conall , please allow me to say that you are talking a load of nonsense(will I be ejected ???) like Griff , I used to go year in ;) and year out , but ;) in 2001 , I finally cried enough , I could not get from pre parade to parade to betting ring , tote was impossible , and I could not ge:biggrin: to use the toilets when i wanted to .

So I had a word with myself amd left , as for RHT they are just a load of money grabbers , and they will reap what they are sowing now in time , as the present crop of young people who occasionally go racing want more facilities , not less .and thats where it will come unstuck

No offence old chap , its just a rip off , as for unique atmosphere , maybe !!!, but how about the possiblity of the Irish lads saying this is becoming too expensive , what then for Eddie and his chums ???

Kevin , fair dues you make your point well and I agree it cant be all bad when some corporate people come back

    but !!!

How about , 70 quid , 40 quid and 25 quid for cheltenham , good old edward and chums have decided the market is right for a 5 quid increase on what is already the most expensive days racing in the Uk , I ask you this . will you pay it ???
as always we can agree to disagree

kevin , nice try !!! , corporate only counts for a few people in relative terms, cources make profits vis the masses , entrance , tote betting , food and drink ,

Football my dear man is football , entertainment yep , (as long as you dont die of boredom ) and your right when fighting for the leisure spend racing must be competitive ,I just dont believe it trys hard enough

thing is though , I fervently believe that the policy of overcharging will very soon be voted upon by people staying away , as for comparisons with football , its just not racing is it !!!

Some courses get it right , Southwell for instance Tatts has been about 8 quid for yonks , whereas Lisa and her merry mob just dream about full houses and music nights at 25 quid a go , !!!

There is very little common sense applied

ps Calder is 2 dollars and free on dark days for simulcasting !!!

quality post Clive , I agree entirely , am really glad the meaness of Newmarket has been picked up by other forumites , as Im sure all and sundry are sick of me droning on about overcharging and misery guts cources

Carry on Newmarket management, you will empty the rowley mile course eventually , and yes why dont you add another 4 nights to the July Friday night gigs . to hell with racing , thats far too boring and unprofitable

my first job was with APCK bookshop in Dawson st in Dublin in 1967 , I lasted 5 weeks , got sacked for writing the prices of the new smash hit Ulyses in Pen ink !!!!

It was a place where COI bishops used to come in and demand tea, which was really strange, as in Ireland then being protestant was very much being part of a very small community , but a very valued one

    ok lets spell this out

Value for money in betting is non existent

value for money in procuring goods and or services is tangible and measurable

betting is a matter of choice and chance

Value is an over used in appropriate word ,

so you back a horse at 25 /1 and 5 mins before the race he is 2/1 , have u got value

If you have can you bank it , can you feel it no

You can however lay off and make a profit regardless of result , but this does not accentuate or validate this value thing

    It is a misnomer

hi Wallet , its a long time since Mark Cotton wrote about value , it was a good idea then in theory at least .

Fact is you cannot Eat it !!!!

    Winners when u back em

    Losers when u lay em

They provide bread , all else is a load of cobblers

EC , interersting set of numbers , agree with Kehar and Rakti , the rest we are at a large variance

What is a bit of a imponderable is your usage of a set figure for variant adjustment

This is not the best, as each race conditions change , wind , additional sunshine , and or continour rain , so you need to treat each race seperately, and measure points per furlong accordingly

I guaranttee this will reap better rewards

I agree , it was appaling!,if ever you needed a reason to give this show a miss todays offering was ample !!!

    Pathetic ,

Wonder what Barry would do if Betfair just told him to take his hedging business elsewhere , ????
Paul Haig was brilliant today , he tells the truth , those mean bookies will be redundant soon , and they know it , all they will have is fobt and cartoon punters , Horse players will have migrated to exchanges

Gus , you are right , court cases would be many

    Great idea though

there is no chance in real life to all parties signing up to it , and to make it compulsury would be challenged in the courts , and inded would undermine the jockey club even further
Lets give Pro stewards a go , and I dont mean hiring some more ex policemen !!!
