Having just witnessed the last race at Newmarket don’t anybody ever ever again attempt to defend this fraudster.
He is incompetent!!
September 25, 2005 at 17:59 #67040so what was his sin , must admit he does ride that course very well most times

September 25, 2005 at 20:23 #67042Yes I did – this was the last leg of 3 doubles and a treble with Quince and oujypujywujycoochykoo of Alan Swinbanks.
Anyhow having been for a 2 hour walk with the dog I have just watched it again on RUK.
Frankie set a modest gallop which meant it was going to turn into a 2 furlong burn-up – Hills wasn’t too far off the pace so that wouldn’t be an unsurmountable problem. He has pulled out to chase the leader, given the horse a crack and has got to within a half length with a hundred yards to go. At this stage he decides he was going to get up and win cleverly by a head or so under a hand ride.
Unfortunately the leader has boxed on and he hasn’t quite got there. I am convinced that another couple of cracks would have secured a half length victory. To my eyes he was trying to ‘do a Fallon’ and ease to victory rather than making sure.<br>
September 25, 2005 at 20:34 #67045Agree with tbe Bear. If winning was the first and only priority, he would have won this race, not  necessarily only for work omitted at the business end. I believe he was overconfident and trying to win easily. Some might say he was looking after the 3yo against these older horses. He received criticism on the Betfair forum too.  I had a paltry interest in the horse winnng.
September 25, 2005 at 21:18 #67046It was a steadily-run race and Kamanda Laugh wasn’t stopping in the final furlong. That was a problem for Richard Hills on King’s Majesty just as it was for Johnny Murtagh on Polar Magic. If Hills was under orders to ride his horse from behind, as I suspect he was, then he didn’t do much wrong. Bear, I accept you’ll disagree and I might be wrong and you might be right but do you really feel this was ineptitude "of the highest order"?
I backed Polar Magic by the way. He’d have gone very close in a truly-run race but I’m not complaining.
September 25, 2005 at 21:24 #67047It was a steadily run race Gus, and if Hills had ridden the horse with gusto in the last half furlong I would have accepted it as ‘one of those things’. However Hills body language in the last half furlong tells me he reckoned he had the leader covered and would hit the front 10 yards from the line posing for the cameras. That’s what has upset me.
September 25, 2005 at 22:03 #67048I’m afraid he just isn’t that strong in a finish – He’s great at getting a horse into a rhythm as displayed on Mubtaker. You get what you pay for I’m afraid
September 26, 2005 at 15:04 #67049Funny, I’ve been around cyberspace for years and Richard doesn’t half get some hammer.
Reminds me of the stick Kevin Bond took up at Man City. Would he get so much stick if he hadn’t been fortunate enough to ride for Sheikh Hamdan? I doubt it.
I made more money out of him when he was at Thomson Jones’ than any other jockey and his presence has never put me off a mount.
Mind you, he can ride some stinkers, I’ll give you that. When he gets it wrong…he GETS it wrong!:o
October 7, 2009 at 01:40 #252215Bear, your words are now futile considering the season that man Hills is having. Winners and smashing rides right, left and centre. Have a slice of nice old humble pie.
October 7, 2009 at 02:39 #252223Name and shame ’em Graham.
There is no hiding place for these heretics. Their threads will be brought to the top and their ignorance paraded for all to see.
A brace of trebles, both including multiple group races, in the last fortnight alone. A fifth group one winner of the season (would be six if he’d have been given the ride on Youmzain on Sunday) and a strike rate of 28% in handicaps this season. I’ll have to get onto John Randall at the

about the last one as I think it is an all-time record for any jockey with at least 100 rides.
Unquestionably the greatest sportsman of our age.
